The home-user has some options and can use it within the scope of his/her knowledge and abilities. The music therapist studies more ways to use music more specifically to reach various therapeutic objectives. He/She also is trained to create custom musical experiences that use music in different ways than are common in the general public. In other words, the Music Therapist is a specialized therapist who uses musical experiences to target specific therapeutic outcomes. This is very different than how most people use music, which is mainly for recreation.
