The fact that it sounds like her vocal freedom sounds promising in both years than 2018-2019. She had a handful of D5s (and an Eb5 i think) with a low confidence. (disclaimer: y'all might not agree which is kinda true, but there are times where she's confident in attempting notes but not consistent as like few years ago, like 2018) It's actually pretty sick! I hope that she drops more of the playbacks and regained some of that 2010 Live Arrangement formulas, especially for TCOM next year!
You can definitely see that she was actually working on her technique in late 2023, probably because of her rough vocal health in the months before. But no offense to 2024, it feels like she no longer is thinking about improving technique in the same way. Obviously 2024 is way more lipped so maybe that has to do with her lack of caring about live singing
Mariah's voice has gotten lower and deeper and lost even more of the fluidity in the past decade, becoming more labored especially with the higher notes. Her approach is more staccato, her pauses and punctuations are much more abrupt and razor-sharp, her tone more metallic. Her comfortably belted chest voice range is now more limited. It seems she feels she can't drop key too much (because the audience expects ridiculous high singing from her as that is her brand) but then again she has to preserve her voice for the succeeding shows. Look, even doing her prime, she wasn't much of a live performer, limiting her tour dates to not overexert herself, so it's understandable she has to make even more adjustments 3 decades later. It doesn't help that she wears these really tight, corseted outfits that seem to limit her breathing. But you can still clearly hear that unmistakable tone through her ad libbed live moments. The voice is still very much there - just more weathered and seasoned. Mary J. Blige is also in that phase currently.
@@highland_persuasion well atp i think she should drop the keys and embrace her lower register she can still lip some songs with high notes just to satisfy the general public but make like at least 60% of the setlist almost fully or fully live songs that fit her current range, either songs she has that don’t require much high notes like giving me life or her cover of nevertheless im in love with you, or just lowering keys and changing arrangements of songs like cutting the bridge of abmb for example

When she really wants to sing she blows everybody away and beats all the other singers in the world
Then why doesn’t she sing like that all the time? I don’t understand why people would not want to sing like that?
