I've been a fan of Wicked since Kristin and Idina were still performing in the lead roles, and I could not have been more thrilled with the movie casting. Cynthia and Ariana both honored the ladies who originated these roles while also making them completely their own, and as far as I'm concerned, the movie is a piece of art! Their wonderful friendship shines through, and it is a rare and extraordinary thing.

The other is a Mezzo Soprano. It is obvious about the tone of her voice during the lower parts, it is more heavy there. The opposite is true for a soprano. Remember, voice type is not about the range.
Cynthia is not a mezzo soprano she has the typical passagio of a lyric soprano stop it…her voice has no weight in the middle register she has medium weight to her voice. You can tell in her belts and head voice that she is screaming lyric soprano..
Vocalist and the true art of singing, must NEVER be drowned out nor diminished in the pop world. It's vital to of course have a mixture of styles, but astute upper echelon singers are the cornerstone. Jon has said they they were each such clear standouts for their roles that they just cast them and hoped the chemistry would work itself out, which was a gamble considering how much the wicked story rests on the relationship of these two women, both their acting and singing chemistry. And somehow, even as freakishly good as they are individually, the whole might actually be greater than the sum of the parts? They have also said it was a surprise how well their voices work together. It's all very cosmic, but I'm personally thrilled how happy they seem together and the ripple effects its had on the whole project and beyond.

People with the skills can make the best of a bad combination through hard work (trial and error, constant conscious effort to match vocal tone with your partner), or you can get lucky with 2 performers whose individual natural instincts align. That's what they've described, how easy it was the first time they sang together and it worked immediately.
