BMW E90 323i EONON CarPlay Touchscreen Radio INSTALLATION (2005-2011 3-series) Q65PRO

- Installing an Android 10 Car Stereo for a BMW E90. This is compatible with 2005-2011 BMW E90/E91/E92/E93 with the BMW Professional Stereo System. Install wasn't bad. I purchased this unit from a Chinese company called EONON. They have a few units, that the install would be identical for. This was the Q65PRO, with an IPS display (though viewing angles leave me wondering). A full review will follow if there is demand.
Video Note:
I didn't do a review because this thing crapped out on me. Some features did not work such as the heated seats. The android would crash constantly and connecting was often unsuccessful. The android operating system has very few features that work, is very glitchy and EONON was not great with troubleshooting. I would not recommend this unit and honestly would recommend people either don't change their stock radio or use a bluetooth dongle with their stock radio.

Thanks for the video - finally someone has shown how badly hvac control panel fits with this type radios!
Yep. It works but barely. There has to be a better way, but dash cutting definitely isn't it.
I’ve just fit one in my girlfriends E90 and it doesn’t look to bad viewing from the seat.
@@djmillzy7486 can you upload a video showing how it's done?
That the only issue I have with those units, I can't stand the fitment issues at the bottom like that. It's a no go for me. There's got to be a way around it. The company dynavin worked around it
@@Prez_s look on ebay at teh 7 inch ones, teh fit is so much better, looks almost oem, and im a pickey mofo, im getting it if my cars passes mot.
So great installation video~ Thanks for your sharing! 😉
Heated seats how do I wire it to the touchscreen
Great...but why don't the heater controls fit?!
If you put the bracket on the radio first then aligned it as you put the holding screws in the lower temp. Slides right in
Excellent tip
@amateurvw when the brackets on you make sure it sits behind the bottem of the screen, everything slide in flush.
finallyyyyy i barely see any 323s on yt
Definitely is such a weird niche model with the 2.5L n52b25. I remember at the time in Canada it cost just about the same as a golf. Getting the straight 6 at that price point was the golden era for BMW.
@@VWTalk325i also has an n52b25 in the uk but come with the n52b30 as well
Thanks for the video, climate controls after fitting looks very bad and very cheap. Will look for a different model, cheers.
Don't disagree. The fit and finish isn't OEM at all.
How did you get the BMW log for the boot screen? I have the same unit and cannot find a way to load it onto the unit
Could I use this if I have a factory navigation system? Im okay if it renders the factory system useless
I got the unit months ago. The screws they gave don’t fit. Like the head of the screw is too big for the hole. Good thing is the unit is secured tight so it’s not really falling off. That’s the only thing that’s keeping it hanging LOL other wise it’s a good unit!
That’s a bummer, the screws worked for me. They’re definitely not the right fasteners for the job though, they seem like wood screws lol.
I had the same problem with the screws not fitting. I grabbed some deck screws I happened to have on hand 😂
@@hoobiekoobie you happen to know the size? Mine just hanging since it happens to be tight enough not to fall LOL
Great Vid. Do you know if this can work with a new Android 12 phone? I have a Galaxy S21, but not sure if it can work with this because the stereo is Android 10. Will order one if it does work
No clue unfortunately, this is the first device running android I’ve owned since my HTC M8. I’d be surprised if you couldn’t get something working, since you should be able to side load apps- but I don’t want to say something I can’t verify myself.
It'll work fine. I'm using one with a S21.
You the king
Nice video! What did you do about the heated seats? Mines the same layout as this one did you have to give up the heated seats?
Seems like they don't work. There is a menu option on the radio buried under the settings screen but it dosent seem to work. I haven't tested it much. Regardless my plan is I'll be getting a metra ashtray conversion kit so I can put the heated seat buttons back.
@@VWTalk do you have a link to it?
@@ryancarbone9628 Crutchfield and Amazon are two places I know of that sell metra. The kit # is Metra 98-9306. They are the gold standard when it comes to radio retrofit kits. I used their kit on my mk4 Jetta and it fit great. Not sure when ill order that kit for this car though.
@@VWTalk thank you for the info!
You can also get a 135i heater control which has heated seat buttons built in, I have one in my e92. works perfectly
cool video ordered this unit and it will be here tomorrow just a question what is the purpose of the included speaker?
The included speaker plays the bmw tone “bling”. I don’t know why they couldn’t just use the car speakers, but that’s what it’s for.
@@VWTalk thanks for the response just got a new subscriber 👍🏽
@@VWTalk we’re you able to get the steering wheel controls right know it is seeming a bit difficult to get them to work
@@Yrjjr you know that’s the one thing I haven’t been able to figure out. It seems easy to program however following the instructions yields nothing. If you find something definitely let me know. This isn’t my car so I haven’t had time lately to pull it into the garage to play with the steering controls. I did get the dash cam and reversing wired up this weekend though and it does accept the steering angle input.
Did you have to get a wiring harness for plug and play or did you splice into the radio harness?
It came with
Hey there, just bought one of these units and installed it as a replacement for my old xtrons, but the thing doesn't turn on and I can't seem to find any live wire om my harness.
Did you have to run a permanent live, or just plug and play?
Tanhks
I ran a live wire tapped into a fuse that was switched by the ignition if I recall
only american can be proud of such quality, it's p&p and isn't at the same time, even after cutting some edges of your panel if looks awful
Are you American? Because I sure am not. Though I agree, this kit dosen't look anything near OEM. It is Chinese garbage but it does serve the purpose.
What did you do with the heated seat controls??
Nice Video! Would you recommend this unit after you used it for some time now? And how is the visibility of the screen and the sound?
Yeah I don’t think it’s bad. I’d run it if I had this car. I haven’t used it that much, this is my moms car. One complaint I’ve got is it dosent maintain the right time. Addressing your concerns, in my usage the sound is definitely worse, ever so slightly tinnier which was disappointing. The screen is an IPS but the viewing angle downward is mediocre. In bright sun you can see but it leaves some to be desired. Also the heated seats don’t work through the screen. With that said, these are minor issues, and for a car without a double din options are limited. The way it interfaces with the stock radio position is great and I’d probably buy it again. Let me know if you have any other questions I’m happy to help.
I'll update this comment since I drove the car today and realized that the sound settings that it came with by default totally ruined the sound... it actually sounds pretty good when normal settings are chosen. It was set to bias sound toward the passenger side of the vehicle and it sounded tinny to me at first, but with everything reset to default with the "sound stage" centred, I'm actually really happy with the sound. I wouldn't say it's an improvement on the stock amp, but it isn't noticeably worse anymore. For the money, no complaints.
Check Andream CarPlay radios for the e90
@@VWTalk any chance you still have this can do a video on the sounds settings you used. Im in a similar situation where i bought a unit and the sound out it is defo worse. Ive been playing with the dsp but not found good settings i cant get it as good as it was with the original head unit
@@stephenbarraclough5242 it was something with the left right shift but I will put it on my long to do list
Great video! But on my harness I have a yellow "batt" wire and have no idea where it's suppose to go..
I didn’t need to use it.
@@VWTalk Meant to be used to connect to the battery which in turn keeps your clock set at the right time
How did you program the steering wheel controls? I have the 2011 BMW 328i and was unable to control the steering wheel controls on the settings. Any videos on it?
I have the same model, and was looking for stereo's that will fit, can you possibly send links of the one you used?
Should be plug and play.
I can't figure out the steering wheel controls either. I barely drive this car so only play with it once in a while. If you find anything concrete do share.
@@VWTalkit should just work once plugged in. Mine does 👍
@@djmillzy7486 Mine unfortunately does not. What trim level is your car? I suspect they may not have perfect compatibility with all trim levels.

Hi there , today i have install Q65PRO the same your , but show me how about cornect wifi to devices ??

what size was this screen?
Hey. I did everything but sound won’t come out when I’m connected Apple car play / Bluetooth. What can I do to fix it?
What did you do to fix it??
@@HemsoonFog I returned and bought a more expensive one. It worked!
You happen to have the link to the one that worked for you?@@thiagofreitas3412
@@thiagofreitas3412tell us which one you bought please. Thx
Are you able to change the colour of the UI? Cause that turquoise is certainly something
With it being android you probably can change a lot, i havent seen the option but havent looked either, but i agree, terrible colour
I installed one this week but i need help with the back up camera installation, do you have a video of that?
I don’t but what did you run into? I’ll probably start posting a few videos soon, have a backlog and more free time now.
@amateurvw well haven't really ran into a problem, I'm doing the install following your video lol so got to the point in which everything is working fine but still missing to install the back up camera. I'm glad I found your video because I wouldn't have known I needed to remove the OG radio bracket 😆
So then can you still use heated seats somehow because after the install the heated seat buttons weren’t there
There’s an ash tray that you need to buy that will allow you to relocate those controls
I got rid of mine because of the long start up times and it wouldn’t hold the proper time. Did you encounter these problems or happen to know how to fix them?
No it’s Chinese junk lol I’m just living with it, happy to have the wireless CarPlay and reversing camera. All the other crap is useless to me and I expect to be junky. I want to make a video on long term usage soon.
How did you get the bmw sign to pop up on your screen when you cut it on?
It just came like that
and where goes your buttons for the heated seats? located somewhere else or are they vanished?
You can relocate to the ash tray with an additional trim piece purchased separately. Apparently you can just use the screen but it never worked for me
Did you use a aftermarket backup camera for your radio and if so what did you do to make it work on your radio cause I trying to add a backup camera to my eonon radio and it wouldn’t power up my backup camera
Yes I used an aftermarket camera that actually fit directly into the tailgate opening switch. I had to tap into the accessory power using a fuse tap but it works great and no drain
@@VWTalk ok thanks bro
Did you use any install video? Looking for pointers. I bought the same one that goes on the trunk handle.
@@jacquelinegomez4776 no just relied on my personal knowledge and looked up wiring diagrams to confirm power sources. Prob the 4th reverse cam I rigged up
Cool video and nice mod, but I can't stand the over hang at the bottom with these units.
Don’t disagree. It’s a design fail. There has to be a better way to integrate the controls and get a big screen. For the money though, I think it’s hard to beat. It does work well.
@@VWTalk I prefer the dash mound one f30 style but it costs way too much for such an old car.
@@ecotts yeah I don’t consider that an option because of the dash cutting required. If it breaks and you can’t source another one, or want to sell the car without the radio in it, now you have a dash with a huge hole in it.
So this would be compatible with my 2010 323i? My first car so I'm really lost lol
Should be but confirm with the manufacturer
Is this display compatible with any backup camera installation? For my E90??
Yes but the camera is purchase separately.
Yes it should work w most standard cameras. I used an aftermarket one that has trunk handle integration even though it came with a camera.
What happened to the seat warmer buttons?
Supposed to be software buttons but they dont seem to work
So does your heated seats work?
They don't.
@@VWTalk How come they don' work? Were there no controls on the stereo?
Hello, I installed mine, bit I can't hear the Bluetooth audio, any recommendations??
Haven't encountered this personally. I'd follow up with the manufacturer
Did tou get it fixed what was the problem?
Why not cover the wires do they just magically appear when I do mine or what
Mine came with a harness.
Where did you install the buttons that were below the air/heater unit?
I didn't. You can buy a kit but I hadn't ordered it at the time of install
@@VWTalk what is the kit called ?
@@motonelly1382 there is a kit from metra if I recall
Did you sacrifice the heated seats for it?
It never worked properly with this radio
what's the speaker for? sounds like the annoying one when a bulb ain't working
It's for the bmw notification noise for a bulb out or for an engine fault etc. Its a terrible speaker.
Can you cut the cable so it doesn't work ??
@@clarkey597 You can just not plug it in
My rear parking sensors stop working
I take it if you have heated seats you can’t use any of it?
It dosent work in my testing through the touch screen ui. You can get a bracket for $35 to use your original heated seat buttons which seems to be the only reliable way
What happened with your seat warmer switches??
RIP. You can buy a trim piece to put them where the cigarette lighter is.
I did this. It looks cheap but it works.
So this thing does have RCA outs for an amp? 19:00 ish - looks like it
where do the heated seat buttons go, are they just permanently non functional or what
There’s an ashtray that you’ll need to buy that can relocate the buttons. The tray looks and feels cheap because it is, but it does the job.
@@Gramatron5000 send the link
What happens to the heated seat buttons?
They make a relocation kit for the seat warmer buttons it’s down by the ashtray and cigarette lighter
I did exactly in the video but I get no audio, how do I fix?
Hard to tell based on your limited information
U need the coder box sold separately!
Blumm blummm hehe
Have your steering wheel control works?
Unfortunately, no.
@@VWTalk i fixed mine. I have the same unit, you should enter the Settings menu password 3368 .
And set correct CAN block unit, check that you have been connected it physically. For mine CAN I choose BMW X5 model in the menu list not the BMW 3. And everything works, all buttons on the steering wheel, volumes, src, mobile.
and some additional info ( Developer menu = pass 3368)
(my model UIS8141E (SC7731) car e93 BMW Professional Stereo 2008)
hows it holding up after a month or so? im looking to install this into my 318i
It works well. The android is stable from my use. Sound quality issues I initially had are resolved. Reverse cam works well as well as dash cam. Only peeves are steering wheel buttons and the front seat warmers don’t really work, but I’ll be getting a metra kit to add the seat warmers back. It’s not a pioneer radio, and it has quirks but the CarPlay works great, and it sounds good enough. The display viewing angles are acceptable, but not perfect.
@@VWTalk so the steering wheel arrows don't change song in say spotify for example?
@@RussellUK I haven’t been able to get mine to do anything. Other versions may work or I may be messing up the software, but that’s just where I am.
@@VWTalk do you have the canbus box that should have came in the box? if not it may be a separate thing you need to buy. the canbus box allows the steering wheel controls to work with the unit.
@@RussellUK it did come with the canbus box. The only thing that was a separate option at time of purchase was the optical decoder, but I don’t have optical.
Have you installed a sub?
No
I havent seen any one single video that the ac module fits. This is why I dont like these din2 android radios for the e90
It’s not a dual din it’s a custom size but I agree the radio options suck
@@VWTalk well in that case even worse, cause it doesnt fit and looks horrible
@@daviddorado5632 trust me I’m not trying to sell it. The CarPlay was nice but I put the original back in
Nice video! But if you install this lcd radio, then you dont have heated seats?
So you’re supposed to still have them through the radio touch screen but I haven’t been able to get it to work. You can also buy a revised trim piece to hold the seat heater controls for about $25 and get back heated seats as well. So no, you don’t have to lose them and it’s pretty easy to get them back. I will probably do it on mine before winter
@@VWTalk Ok thx for reply!;)
Where do you get that? I have a parking sensor button too at the bottom of the AC controls
Where can I get that revised trim piece to add the heated seats control ?
Where did you put your heated seat buttons?
I didn't put them back at the time I made this video. I later bought a metra kit to mount them where the ash tray is.
