I know this wonderful song, but have never really paid much attention to these profound and touching lyrics because the melody seems rather light and carefree. I was really surprised by this great but thoughtful storytelling. And of course it is relatable, but perhaps also a reminder of how precious time is and how perspectives change. Thank you HAP for another great reaction ☺️🙋🏻♀️.
Such a poignant version of this classic. I loved seeing and hearing from his loved ones. RIP-Harry, gone way too soon. He truly had a gifted voice and such a good storyteller. Lovely reaction and tribute, Hap. Beautiful ❤.🎸🎶🎧
Wow! This song is so OLD , but I've heard it. Never saw the video. It was so sad that Harry passed away at such an early age. Live for today and love those around you, most importantly. Funny, I've used that expression with my dad, who I don't see often, Cats in the cradle, " he gets it. Great reaction, as always, Hap ✌️ ☮️ 🥷
This is a beautiful true down to earth song that is very relatable and touching. I enjoyed watching the video and now knowing the origin of the song. R.I.P. Harry Chapin, a talented artist with stories to tell! Your creative talents will be missed. Thank you Hap for another awesome reaction!! 💜🎵
Love Harry Chapin. Such a great song! Saw him perform about a year before he died. Incredibly fun performance. Got to meet him briefly after the show. Such a nice man. Wonderful memories. Still miss him.
Yes. Relatable to a point. Not the first part but the 2nd. Now that my one and only is grown it's becoming much more rare to see or even talk to him. (works too much/friends/distance) Sad. Always loved this song for so many reasons. Thanks Hap and enjoy your new ears!
The saddest thing about this song is that there is no villain. Everyone had the best intentions. It's a story where all characters are the good guys and yet it ends in tragedy. Which is even worse than a bad guy winning. There are only good guys rooting for each other and yet they unintentionally pave the way for each other's tragedy.
His wife wrote the lyrics long before their son was born. It isn't autobiographical. Harry was killed before his son was grown and before he himself was old enough to retire.
Wonderful, touching song, & the narrator’s “realization” at the end always hits like a ton of bricks. Though in fairness, if the sons’ kids have the flu, he really probably shouldn’t visit his elderly father. 🤒

Harry Chapin is one of the most intricate story tellers of my generation. Gives me chills! He's an absolute Legend! May he be Resting in Peace!
His surname is pronounced “chay-pin” FYI. Thanks for the great reaction.
Sadly Harry passed away in an automobile accident at age 38 so did not get to see Josh become a man.
