    A basilica is a form of church so... There's no difference other than a basilica is simply an important church building designated by the pope because it carries special spiritual, historical, and/or architectural significance.

    • @shawnsg

      So there's no difference other than the difference you mentioned? Isn't that a difference?

    • @e.b.4379
      @e.b.4379 5 лет назад +5

      @@shawnsg Haha, I get your point but I simply meant that there's no fundamental difference. An apple is still an apple whether it's a Granny Smith or Braeburn. The lady insisting that it's a basilica, not a church is like saying it's a Granny Smith, not an apple. It's still an apple or in this case a church at the end of the day, just a different type of church. So technically, the "difference" lies in the type of place/object, not the place/object itself. Or take us humans for example... A member of the human species remains human, regardless of the race of said human! I'd better stop here, I'm sure you by now get my point... :)

    Found him just today and really love his unpretentious materials. Not being a camp but also not being aggresive. I think it was a non issue, with no bearing on the story. If he responded to a smart alec to accentuate the humour, that's great. But his cutting her off with "bored", "you lost me", etc, did come across as slightly insecure at that point. I still enjoyed his comedy.

    I know all about the singing thing. I've sung in enough church choirs to relate to that, but at least old hymns usually follow the same format throughout the entire hymn so by the time you reach verse 3 you've just about got the hang of things even if you've never sung it before. Modern "worship songs" are worse because they go off at all sorts of weird chords and key changes in several places. The "worship group" starts playing something and you think you know where it's going then suddenly it changes key, tune, tempo and just about everything else for no apparent reason and you're floundering around trying to work out how to keep up with it all, especially if it's one where every verse is different each time - if it has verses at all!

      Definition of a Cathedral :
      A cathedral is a church that contains the cathedra (Latin for 'seat') of a bishop, thus serving as the central church of a diocese, conference, or episcopate.
      It is still technically a church, it says it in the definition of what it is, it has been defined as that for a very long time, stop trying to be contradicting and contentious, I’m right so shut up.

    I've found a really effective solution to the singing in a church problem, don't go to church.
