OMG. Having designed, built and tested stereo systems and home theaters for 20 years I now feel vindicated in my personal experience with Audyssey. My current theater has never lived up to my expectations. Female voice, subwoofer performance and a lack of punch in music that seems to sound better in my Jeep! I've been an audiophile over 60 years and this is the best AV educational video I've ever seen. Thank you very much. I own the Denon 3700H and am buying an SVS ultra bookshelf system shortly. I already own with 2 SVS subs and find that while Audyssey is a cool piece of software it should be used judiciously. Believe it or not I am still using my original Atlantic Technology (ATL) speakers from 30 years ago. I remember the old days of calibrating using Avia and the Sound and Vision disc with an SPL meter. All it did was measure feet and speaker levels. At the time I was using 2 ATL 10" subs. But what I vividly remember was those 2 little subs hitting me right in the chest - and that was from 10' away. Anyway thanks again for the video.
Check out the ratbuddy audessy program it allows you to load the calibration files onto the computer and adjust all the same things on the app but you can do so in a finer level and it gives you a bit more info than the app.

Gene, love your channel. I would say that many audiophiles, high-end and otherwise listen to classical music and are big into music streaming so it would be nice to compare the sound of receivers and speakers using classical CDs. That really would show the ability of speakers to handle the highs and bass lows and not all speakers are good for classical music.Two disc that come to mind would be Also Sprach Zarathustra which was used in the movie 2001 as the opening theme and Saint-Saens Organ Symphony. So far classical listeners are under-represented.
Thank God I found this 🙏 With my marantz sr6013, emotiva gen 2 xpa 5 & xpa 2 with all new klipsch rp series speakers, which are very efficient does not sound right or what it should with running audyssey!
Great video! I wish I had seen this before last night.. lol!. I calibrated my Denon back when I first got it a year ago and never really gave much thought to how much occasional updates improve things. I bought a new subwoofer so last night I recalibrated (BTW, the new cal procedure is nicer and easier to work with) and WOW, what an improvement. Audyssey also caught my new subwoofer was not performing as well as it should and popped up an on the fly level adjustment so I could adjust the output level using the subwoofer volume control on the back of it until it was spot on at -75dBm (the target level), before moving forward with the whole room calibration process. That was a really nice feature, so I didn't waste a lot of time tuning the sound system for the room and everything sounded great after just one pass. The spatial imaging is so tight, if somebody is speaking, it really sounds like they are in a specific spot, as well as how smoothing things that are moving around are to track as they move. Can't wait to go back and re-watch some of my favorite movies now that the system is working so much better. Cheers!
Great video. VERY helpful!!! I've actually gotten that phase error you mention on my KEF IQ9's and IQ6c. I made sure the wiring was correct and moved on, as advised!
Looking forward to watching this! Not an Audyssey expert so haven't had great luck with adjusting my Denon 3700. Also Denon support was exactly zero help with sound setup, only verifying basic hardware. My 10yr old Onkyo sounded better at times 😐
Hi Gene, love all the videos and information you guys create, you say that audyssey flat sounds the best for you, but what you forget to mention is that flat bypasses your audyssey limmit (curtain) so flat always uses eq for the entire bandwith. Only the referance is possible to limmit what audyssey does
I haven't used the regular receiver based Audyssey system in years so you may be correct on that but I'm pretty sure you can add the curtain if you have the mobile app. You can absolutely add a curtain with the PC ver of Audyssey on Flat which is exactly what I did in my system.
I've watched a dozen videos on Audyssey set up and I have run audyssey a half dozen times. I always end up disabling it and using manual set up. Sounds so much better.
I was of the same opinion frankly until I was able to disable midrange compensation And get a bit more under the hood with the functionality the app delivered. That was a really big change audibly for me
I just bought an RX-A6A! It will power the 7.1 system and feed my RX-V2600, both will be used to power a 23 speaker system in my room. I have 2 Carver M-400 magnetic fields amps (upgraded recently by a company in Washington state that knows how to do it) running some of the multiple subs and 2, 100 watt plate amps running 2 more. Then I have 3 powered subwoofers as support. Woofer size goes from 15" to 8" and my chair is centered between 2 ,15" subs that face down and the other 7 subs are placed around the room in all the resonance nodes. There are 42 separate speaker elements in 23 cabinets being driven by about 2000 watts in a pyramid shaped room with 10 foot ceiling. With carpet on the floors and hard walls with no square surfaces the room was made for the system. When I run a YAPO test the mic is on my head and all speakers are aimed at the seated location. The 3 dimensionality of the sound stage is like sitting front center of the stage. Very "live" when listening. I can't wait to finish installing the RX-A6A and connect everything then see what YAPO will do to adjust timings. Ah, audio sound, it's a cruel bitch! 😃👍

Long time listener and follower, I appreciate all your hard work and putting together this video. It answered a lot of my questions, but I have three questions I can't seem to find any answers for and hoping you or someone readiing this can assist: 1. It was recommended not to use all (8) listening positions, but don't recall hearing how many should be used. What is the recommendation..3 or 6? 2. If we want to adjust my speaker levels after running Audyssey, where should it be done? Shouldn't it be in the app since the app over writes anything in that preset? If it is the app, how are the test tone played. 3. I can't find anything on how to play pink noise through my AVR (Denon 3800) and adjusting the speaker levels at the same. Is there direction on how to do so?

I will use Polk Audio LSiM 702 F/X once my room is done (sitting in a box now), they seem to be precisely what you mentioned as your wishlist for wides; flush mount with angled baffles that are not dipoles (or considered bipoles). Just took delivery of a Denon AVR-A110, very excited to add into my system.
I first watched Theo when he reviewed the Denon X8500H and I just loved his enthusiasm about the product! I had an 8500 at the time I watched that video and Theo had me so excited that I had made the right choice. Since then I’ve now upgraded to the Denon AVR A110 Anniversary edition and it sounds even better than the 8500, which I had my doubts at first. But once I hooked everything up the A110 blew me away!
I have been preaching about turning off mid-range compensation for a long time. The app is worth every penny just to do this. people have no idea how good their receiver or pre-amp really is until you do this. My Marantz is day and night with this crap turned on. Movies just came alive with it off.

Pro tip: if you take Gene and Theo’s advice to compare with 2ch music to determine if you like what Audyssey does to your speakers, you can use the “L/R Bypass” mode for “no Audyssey”. The L/R Bypass setting disables Audyssey only for the FR/FL mains, but preserves the EQ on the sub. So you can switch between “Reference” (full range EQ) and “Bypass” (sub EQ only) while listening to 2ch music, and preserve the calibrated deep bass from the subs. So then all you’re hearing is the impact of Audyssey on the main speakers. If you decide you dislike the full range EQ, then you can use the App to lower the curtain to 300-500Hz, and you get some correction for the bass region only. (Also Gene you are correct that the Flat setting in the AVR doesn’t have the MRC dip if you’re using an old AVR that doesn’t support the App; however if you use the App then the MRC setting applies to both Flat and Reference!)
I found it easier to simply switch between DIRECT and STEREO for comparison as I was always going to use Audyssey to help smooth out bass. Just remember to use REFERENCE once you have set the cut off so it applies. You should easily be able to tell that FLAT is still applying full range EQ. It was night and day to me so I am currently only using EQ to 500hz but my old much less expensive still highly rated speakers sounded better with full range EQ.
@@markym3870 flat - direct auto = subs included is much smoother and not boomy for music listening in my room. Curtain 300 MHz. I prefer these settings. .
The number of tweaks you have to use to defeat the system is totally in contraction with the easy to use approach. One thing you could add is first try to optimize your room without Audissey! If you did the job well You will hear how much audissey actually damage the sound. I use it only on my AV8805 for connivence to tackle 50Hz room modes as my room is too small for proper treatment. And i have to admit Audissey does a good job in the low end. But great video guys 👍

I found thbe Audssey app well worth the money. I tried using REW, a free and very power room correction software but like most free the user interface and workflow is less than stellar.

I have 20 year old Paradigm Reference speakers. They already have a midrange/tweet dip. Gotta watch this kind of stuff, and the only gripe I have is you have to buy the app to address this.
I think the Audyssey app and feature in my Denon receiver is it's best feature, but it seems like it is more complicated to use than necessary. That is, I think it's the best EQ tool, but it would be great if you could hear the results of changing the curve in real time.
I just watched this video and i want to thank you so much for the quality and quantity of infos regarding MultEq-X room correction.It's been of great help for me in my own room correction. I was wondering if you've noticed that recommandation in the MultEQ-X user guide ,page 21 under "Tips for taking measurements" item 7 says "Vary the height of the microphone by a few inches between measurements positions to account of the standing waves between the floor and ceiling".Have you experimented this? could it bring a significative change or refinement in the whole calibration process? Yes, try doing exactly that, and you can compare the results with other profiles that you measure. If you are calibrating for a single sweet spot, then I suggest you stay within that 20 inch or so mark that I mention in the video otherwise you’re going to spread the calibration measurement parameters out too far.
I’ve found that with the shape of your ear 👂🏼, the bouncy house speakers 🔊 can be used behind you for a definite improvement in height, but absolutely not in the front. You will always be able to tell they’re speakers are toppers. Not anywhere near the effects of heights or ceilings.
Good video, sadly my Denon avr does not have app support. However, Denon themselves and many other claim that the distances set with Audyssey is measuring delay. Not physical distance. So measuring the physical distance yourself doesn’t make sense, I notice I get best result when I leave the distances alone, especially bass.
One thing never gets mentioned is the filter frequency range on a subwoofer. It lets you set it between 20hz to 250hz. I’ve come across some people on your tube that set that 20hz but don’t explain why lol

Can't decide if I should buy my 15" pro studio in the back and my Sony 6.5" bookshelfs on stands along with a my Kenwood 8" non powered subs but have a line in and line out to the bookshelf with also got a set of JBL balcony speakers with the other sub while I take that back my plan is to run each left side of the speaker of the left of the receiver and the right speakers on the right speakers also was told that is true stereo with multiple speaker then when you use the eq it will work better
This Audyssey plus add-ons seems more like a Rube Goldberg machine. As for the presets, I've been enjoy that feature on my Pioneer Elite SC-99 for years, it's part of the MCACC PRO set up. I actually get 6 memory slots that will save different Eq, channel Levels, Distances if needed. It's seems to me like all of these systems have their pros and cons, but we need them in order to get the most out of our setup.
Great information as usual. I'm going to try some of these tips to recalibrate my home theater setup. Couple of questions though: A lot of people are pushing to get the biggest subs I can afford, usually 15" or 18". Are you saying that I would be better off with multiples of 10" or 12" instead? My room is extremely large, 6000+ cubic ft open floor plan with vaulted ceilings. I know SVS PB-1000 is cheap enough I could afford 4 of them for less than one 18" sub. Second question, Klipsch RP-8000F vs Paradigm Premier 800f. Are the Paradigms worth double the price of the Klipsch?

Why do you suggest disabling Dynamic EQ without any explanation? I find that when listening below reference it works nicely as Auddysey documentation suggests, as long as appropriate reference level offsets are used. You can't compensate for that with the curve as the curve is fixed for every volume level.
I have a Marantz NR1711 newly purchased for a business office and they want to control the volume using the web interface. The NR1711 doesn't appear have this function like the Marantz NR1601 from several years ago. Do you know any work around for this? also how can you have "All Zone Stereo On" as a default setting so when you power on the receiver it is already on? Thanks in advance, love your videos!

You guys say to get it right sounding right in 2 channel listening to music first. Do you mean playing a cd through the blue ray player and with option set to music, and wich stereo mode? Basically my atmos setup to me sounds incredible, but trying to get good 2 channel audio out of my marantz av7702 has never happened for me. The music just sounds lifeless. I basically just use my marantz for atmos and other surround formats and have another amp and pre for stereo listening. I feel my marantz should sound excellent in 2 channel stereo but it sounds horrible. I have a switch box to switch my mains between my surround amp and my 2 channel amp. Any advice?

I am a heretic, and used Audyssey for the different purpose, of course positioning the microphone differently. First of all, my 4-way system consisting of a horn sub under the floor, woofers in concrete boxes, line arrays in walls, with added arrays of tweeters, have pretty bumpy frequency response, that Audyssey made almost flat. And second, I do not want Audyssey to screw it according to inevitable nulls and bumps that the room causes in the microphone, even with a shelf from floor to the ceiling with a mattress topper behind it on the wall, but castrating the frequency band for it is the wrong way, IMHO. The next time I will try the app, thank you! :)

38:05: This Pink-Noise download page from Dynaudio does not exist any more. I assume the audiocheck's 15 min mp3 file or 30 sec wav file for pink noise serves the same purpose?
Put vertical blinds on that window in back . I have a wall of glass doors but vertical blinds stop any reflection anomalies . (they are also adjustable)
I have had a Marantz 7007 for about six years. This video was informative because the on screen audyssey guide shows microphone positions at literal seating positions with no mention of the 21 inches from main seating position restriction. There is no mention of this in the operating manual. Is this a newer requirement that does not apply my version of Audyssey? This seems to fundamental to have been missed in this huge manual that was shipped as a CD.
It’s definitely one of those fine print things and it’s very easy for people to miss. I agree it should be more obvious. I’ve encountered enthusiast who are telling me that they are measuring near the side walls and here and there and creating all this Voodo. It’s pretty straightforward not more than 2 feet from the primary listening measurement. :-)
After Audyssey calibration I turn off dynamic eq because my 2 surrounds are too loud and my bass feels boomy. Audyssey sets my subs at -9 and -8.5db. You say when dynamic eq is off subs are then -3 to -6db lower output. What’s weird is that if I then set both subs -3db lower so -6 and -5.5db with dynamic eq off it sounds boomy again. If I just leave my subs to what Audyssey sets them with dynamic eq on to -9 and -8.5 but with dynamic eq off the subs sounds “tighter/punchier” so is it just my room? Why can’t subs just be easy to setup haha
I only changed the frequency to 80Hz on the speakers that audyssey set below 80Hz. 90Hz and above, I left alone. My fronts are from the 80's, and they do sound better with the midrange compensation.
Great video! I’ve been waiting for a really good tutorial like this for Audyssey! A friend of mine and I both just bought the new Anniversary edition Denon AVR A110. We’re both also using external amps especially for our sound stage. One thing I’ve found on this video that’s not correct, well, at least not with my A110, is you CAN adjust your subs in the red above 75db and it’ll still let you continue with the calibration using whatever DB level you chose. For example I chose 80dbl’s and I could still continue with Audyssey for the rest of the way. So you may want to double check that again. Maybe they just started letting us do this? IDK? As I just ran Audyssey last week. But I had no problems with my dual SB16 Ultra’s.
There are newer tweaks in the 2020 models with Audyssey such as being able to load two measurements that are not in pre-2020 models. This may be another (?)
@@TheoNicolakis yes, I posted that in one of Gene’s other videos. Since the A110 is supposed to be the “Anniversary Edition” of what Denon has achieved. You’d think it would have every possible feature Denon offers in their 2020 models. Especially since the A110 was made in Oct 2020. Regardless of it being an Audiophile version of the 8500. But, with the Audyssey app you can store as many preset calibrations as you want as long as you’re willing to update the A110 with the app.
@@TheoNicolakis Look into the Ratbuddyaudyssey program it allows you to take the files from the room corrections and bring them up on the computer and adjust them in more detail and can do everything the apps can do and more. Its worth checking it out !!
Just in case this has not been said, if anybody is using a Marantz prepro with an Emotiva amp and XLR cables hooked up, you will get a false phase error during Audyssey calibration. All Gen3 Emotiva amps are XLR pin 3 hot and pin 2 cold, which is out of phase. Emotiva recommended that in order to fix this, reverse the speaker wire polarity on the output side of your amplifier. I can confirm that this works.
Totally love all the livestream topics... but one thing is missing in multy subs.. what if someone only has 2 subwoofers.. in the option on 4 subs at corners what should one do.. same side front and back or diagonal front and back !!! As most of us would have 2 subs
It really depends on the room but you can try 1 sub in each corner if you want the most LF coupling. One sub front/rear midwalls can give really good seat to seat consistency but not as much LF coupling as corner placements. Diagonal corners can work but a bit tricky.

I have the Denon X3700H the ultra towers and the pb 3k, have to save a little more for a center and surround s 🤗 is it save to sett my ultra towers at 60 hertz, i like the way it is sounding now, audyssey set them at 40 large i think 60hertz at small sounds better 😁 i hope you can ansher me, being a no full member 😃

44:05: How do you do this measurement, how do you get this graph? With which tool? Is this also done with the Audyssey smartphone app? I understand that this is measured after Audyssey calibration with all speakers and subs being active simultaneously. So I must play some test signal here. And then if I get the red curve, where and how in Audyssey app do I have to frickle to get the blue curve? Just kind of random trial & error of playing around with modifying delay values a bit as I understand (44:51)?
If it sounds better to you with DEQ on, why would you turn it off?! The ultimate advice is to understand what the features do and choose the settings that give you the sound you like best (I'm learning this too!). If you like DEQ then you probably aren't listening at high volume so DEQ is helping the low end, as intended. Leave it on if it works for you, in your room, at your preferred levels👍
Wonderful session and Theo is an excellent addition!! What are your thoughts regarding the solution by Sound United for the HDMI 2.1 issues they had in Denon & Marantz AVR's. A "dongle" seems a bit inadequate when purchasing a $5,000+ AUD AVR.
I've owned at least a handful of Onkyo receivers and they all had the "Eiffel Tower" audyssey mic. The last Onkyo receiver i bought was back in 2015 and it came with the " hockey puck" style setup mic. Did they go back to the tall mic again? I have both mics that i can use with my 2015 Atmos receiver 😳😜😄
I haven’t had an on cue receiver in hand for review in some time so I can’t give you a definitive answer. That being said you want to use the mic style that came with your AVR.
So, if I have an iphone 14 transmitting audio to my vintage system I'm assuming I don't need either one of these? What would you suggest for iphone users?
Hello Gene. Thanks for releasing great videos and tips on AVR Setup. This video says when using the Audyssey App to set the MultiEQ Filter Frequency Range to 200Hz or 300Hz. Should this range be set on all speakers or just the Subwoofer?
One more question. Is there a way for me to email screenshots of my front room correction results after setting the range from the default 20000Hz to 200Hz to confirm everything looks good?

I live near a busy road and all I want is PLEASE add a PAUSE TESTING feature between speakers during the test. Or better yet it could be done speaker by speaker one at a time? I could wait for a dead silent moment and test the speaker and then wait for another and hit the next speaker....That would be wonderful...I just think it is a no brainer to add something to deal with unexpected sounds. Maybe a stop and restart back one speaker if something happens? I need to be able to pause the testing when I hear a big truck or noisy car coming. It is very frustrating getting five or eight speakers in round after round and then you hear the truck coming and there is nothing to do but cancel the whole thing. Unless I missed something...unlike the AVR audyssey, the app won't let you start that round over... it makes you cancel the entire thing and start over
You don't have to start over. After the test for one of the 8 positions is complete then there is an option at the bottom is to "repeat test. Marantz SR6011.

Really informative video! Loved it, guys! One simple question, though. You mentioned a few times "high quality speakers". Now you guys surely have top-of-the-line gear throughout your systems, but at what floor pricetype would you rate them as such? I'm mostly asking regarding midrange compensation, as I'm really more into music, even though my cinema setup significantly counts for me. For instance, I have a pair of Monitor Audio Silver 300 for my fronts. I wouldn't grade them as "low-end" (at around 2500 CAD, they're not cheap), but would they deserve midrange compensation? I don't know, based on the "high quality" comments ;)
That’s a great question. So both Gene and I had an off microphone extended conversation about this topic as I did with another well-known reviewer. The general consensus is that midrange compensation seeks to address an issue with speaker designs from 15-20 some odd years ago but not so much today. I think the best advice is to let your ears decide. In my particular set up midrange compensation has an audible adverse effect on the performance of the speakers. The audio hobby is all about enjoying the music!
At 34:09, 43:07, 43:36, 48:00, you guys say about Dynamic EQ, Dynamic Volume, LFC: Set all this in the app, not in the AVR itself. I do not quite understand why. Couldn't I just set all these options to "Off" in the app, then load it to the AVR, and later-on in the AVR I could still decide to e.g. set Dynamic EQ to "ON" when needed (e.g. when playing music at low volumes) while keeping the other settings unchanged. And similarly for Dynamic Volume and LFC? I also think the OSD menu in the AVR has the options to set these to more different values then just ON or OFF, so I could tune it finer to my needs than in the mobile app. Or can't I set these settings in the OSD any more when my Audyssey calibration stems from the mobile app, and it only works when I do the Audyssey room calibration on the AVR without app?!?
My wife sits about 5 feet from the tv and I sit near the back of the room ( 12 feet away)…and I have a bit of a hearing loss so I want to split the center channel so I can hear the dialogue…. Wil the Marantz 8015 allow me to do that
I just bought a Denon because it was literally the only receiver left at Best buy because of Bidenomics. Did basic set up and it sounds amazing. I'm going to try you audiophile's guidance tomorrow and see if I can kill myself softly with a song.
I just have (maybe a stupid) question: How is one supposed to use external pink noise in order to get the system set up without the denon's own pink noise? I mean, I uploaded the sound pack to my shield so I can run them through there, but is there a way to designate speakers one by one? If I select multi-channel stereo I can have all the speakers play, but I have to disconnect all other speakers to get just one play? Am i just dumb? THanks for the video though! :)
I would have been nice if they would have told how to do this. They did a great job on telling you need to do it but nothing more than that. Gene wants you to set a appointment up and give him 100 to tell you.
That’s not a stupid question at all. There’s a couple of different ways to do it. First is if you have any calibration disk that will play pink noise through an individual speaker or even some of those old THX tones that have the speaker set up tones. Secondly you can use one of the download links to download the files to a computer or other streaming source. If all else fails then you can certainly use the internal test tones on the Denon. While it’s not the preferred method if that’s all you have, then that’s all you have and give it a go. www.dynaudio.com/support/pink-noise

I saw in another answer that you can configure a mac to direct the dynaudio test tones to each individual channel. I do not have a mac and have not been able to find a way to direct the tone to an individual speaker in windows. I am looking for a good test disc now. Any recommendations? And is using ASIO4ALL in REW to direct pink noise to each channel as accurate as a disc with test tones?
Maybe I'm a little confused. If your only measuring 20" away from the MLP, how are you supposed to measure a multi seat home theater room? I must have misunderstood.
So, what would you recommend if you are setting up a half room? Setting up a theature in a basement, total room ix 21x24, but only going to set up the listening/viewign area in a 12x20 section, but it will still be open (more or less) to rest of space, renting so can't really do any walls. My original plan was either left and right up front about the 1/3 2/3 method. I coudl do the "corners" behind my screen,but the left side isn't really a corner, and I think that would put my left and right towers further in then I would like. My other thought was front and back corners, but kind fo same deal, the back sub if within the viewing area woldn't be in the corner, more like a 2/3. Also not sure I want the subs that close to the neighboring wall, though not sure that would actually matter much to reduce sonic transmission, though I do plan to decouple them from the floor. I guess wherever I put them, you always want the driver to face the listening position though right? What about like a front and back but offset slightly, so the drivers are firing next to each other vs directly opposed? Not even sure I'll go multi sub right away as much as I want to, I might have to stick with my single dual driver for right now. Projector, screen, new pre-pro new OLED, the expenditures are mounting, might need to cool it a bit, but good to know where to start when I do get there.
I've been calibrating, then using Manual(native pink noise) to level each speaker to reference, with the volume turned up to 0db, with an SPL. You're saying that's not the correct way to do it using the AVR? How do I adjust the levels? Using the app, I've been uploading the profile, adjusting the levels with the AVR, then entering the changes manually into the app profile so I won't have to do it again. But, that must be wrong, too. So, once you've calibrated using the app, and have an external pink noise file, how do you level the speakers?
Newbie here. First set up and am going to re-run with the app. I don’t understand if eliminating the curve to 300, how does turning off mid range compensation change anything? Isn’t that above the 300? Due to my lack of experience, if mid range comp is at 2k area, eliminate eq above 300, isn’t mid range being eliminated by that?

Just ran through XT32 on my x3700h. Results seem different but I still need testing and REW measurements to compare setting my Tekton DI as small/large. Coming from a Pioneer sc-27, I'm kind of amazed at how feature lean XT32 is in comparison. MCACC had 5 profile banks with the ability to set different EQ curves on the fly for them 15 years ago and Denon gives us 2 and boasts about it as a "new" feature. I was also kind of surprised by how the entirety of the calibration was just 3 short chirps and that's it. Maybe it's just so much better that it doesn't need all the extra tests, but it doesn't inspire that confidence in me. PEQ is a pretty big miss here as I'd like to limit the room correction, but at the same time we've been watching movies and the highs in action movies and thing like The Hobbit/LOTR have been painfully piercing, so I need the full ban to ad din a downslope for the treble.

OMG. Having designed, built and tested stereo systems and home theaters for 20 years I now feel vindicated in my personal experience with Audyssey. My current theater has never lived up to my expectations. Female voice, subwoofer performance and a lack of punch in music that seems to sound better in my Jeep! I've been an audiophile over 60 years and this is the best AV educational video I've ever seen. Thank you very much. I own the Denon 3700H and am buying an SVS ultra bookshelf system shortly. I already own with 2 SVS subs and find that while Audyssey is a cool piece of software it should be used judiciously. Believe it or not I am still using my original Atlantic Technology (ATL) speakers from 30 years ago. I remember the old days of calibrating using Avia and the Sound and Vision disc with an SPL meter. All it did was measure feet and speaker levels. At the time I was using 2 ATL 10" subs. But what I vividly remember was those 2 little subs hitting me right in the chest - and that was from 10' away. Anyway thanks again for the video.

Check out the ratbuddy audessy program it allows you to load the calibration files onto the computer and adjust all the same things on the app but you can do so in a finer level and it gives you a bit more info than the app.

Gene, love your channel. I would say that many audiophiles, high-end and otherwise listen to classical music and are big into music streaming so it would be nice to compare the sound of receivers and speakers using classical CDs. That really would show the ability of speakers to handle the highs and bass lows and not all speakers are good for classical music.Two disc that come to mind would be Also Sprach Zarathustra which was used in the movie 2001 as the opening theme and Saint-Saens Organ Symphony. So far classical listeners are under-represented.

With my marantz sr6013, emotiva gen 2 xpa 5 & xpa 2 with all new klipsch rp series speakers, which are very efficient does not sound right or what it should with running audyssey!

I calibrated my Denon back when I first got it a year ago and never really gave much thought to how much occasional updates improve things. I bought a new subwoofer so last night I recalibrated (BTW, the new cal procedure is nicer and easier to work with) and WOW, what an improvement. Audyssey also caught my new subwoofer was not performing as well as it should and popped up an on the fly level adjustment so I could adjust the output level using the subwoofer volume control on the back of it until it was spot on at -75dBm (the target level), before moving forward with the whole room calibration process. That was a really nice feature, so I didn't waste a lot of time tuning the sound system for the room and everything sounded great after just one pass. The spatial imaging is so tight, if somebody is speaking, it really sounds like they are in a specific spot, as well as how smoothing things that are moving around are to track as they move. Can't wait to go back and re-watch some of my favorite movies now that the system is working so much better. Cheers!

Well the phase problem popped up after 5years on silver rx6. And now the tweeter of that speaker is blown. Does it mean anything?

Hi Gene, love all the videos and information you guys create, you say that audyssey flat sounds the best for you, but what you forget to mention is that flat bypasses your audyssey limmit (curtain) so flat always uses eq for the entire bandwith. Only the referance is possible to limmit what audyssey does
I haven't used the regular receiver based Audyssey system in years so you may be correct on that but I'm pretty sure you can add the curtain if you have the mobile app. You can absolutely add a curtain with the PC ver of Audyssey on Flat which is exactly what I did in my system.
I've watched a dozen videos on Audyssey set up and I have run audyssey a half dozen times. I always end up disabling it and using manual set up. Sounds so much better.
I get your frustration. We will be testing Audyssey X soon in hopes things will be better.
I was of the same opinion frankly until I was able to disable midrange compensation And get a bit more under the hood with the functionality the app delivered. That was a really big change audibly for me

I just bought an RX-A6A! It will power the 7.1 system and feed my RX-V2600, both will be used to power a 23 speaker system in my room. I have 2 Carver M-400 magnetic fields amps (upgraded recently by a company in Washington state that knows how to do it) running some of the multiple subs and 2, 100 watt plate amps running 2 more. Then I have 3 powered subwoofers as support. Woofer size goes from 15" to 8" and my chair is centered between 2 ,15" subs that face down and the other 7 subs are placed around the room in all the resonance nodes. There are 42 separate speaker elements in 23 cabinets being driven by about 2000 watts in a pyramid shaped room with 10 foot ceiling. With carpet on the floors and hard walls with no square surfaces the room was made for the system. When I run a YAPO test the mic is on my head and all speakers are aimed at the seated location. The 3 dimensionality of the sound stage is like sitting front center of the stage. Very "live" when listening.
I can't wait to finish installing the RX-A6A and connect everything then see what YAPO will do to adjust timings. Ah, audio sound, it's a cruel bitch! 😃👍

Long time listener and follower, I appreciate all your hard work and putting together this video. It answered a lot of my questions, but I have three questions I can't seem to find any answers for and hoping you or someone readiing this can assist:
1. It was recommended not to use all (8) listening positions, but don't recall hearing how many should be used. What is the recommendation..3 or 6?
2. If we want to adjust my speaker levels after running Audyssey, where should it be done? Shouldn't it be in the app since the app over writes anything in that preset? If it is the app, how are the test tone played.
3. I can't find anything on how to play pink noise through my AVR (Denon 3800) and adjusting the speaker levels at the same. Is there direction on how to do so?

I first watched Theo when he reviewed the Denon X8500H and I just loved his enthusiasm about the product! I had an 8500 at the time I watched that video and Theo had me so excited that I had made the right choice. Since then I’ve now upgraded to the Denon AVR A110 Anniversary edition and it sounds even better than the 8500, which I had my doubts at first. But once I hooked everything up the A110 blew me away!

I have been preaching about turning off mid-range compensation for a long time. The app is worth every penny just to do this. people have no idea how good their receiver or pre-amp really is until you do this. My Marantz is day and night with this crap turned on. Movies just came alive with it off.

Pro tip: if you take Gene and Theo’s advice to compare with 2ch music to determine if you like what Audyssey does to your speakers, you can use the “L/R Bypass” mode for “no Audyssey”.
The L/R Bypass setting disables Audyssey only for the FR/FL mains, but preserves the EQ on the sub. So you can switch between “Reference” (full range EQ) and “Bypass” (sub EQ only) while listening to 2ch music, and preserve the calibrated deep bass from the subs.
So then all you’re hearing is the impact of Audyssey on the main speakers. If you decide you dislike the full range EQ, then you can use the App to lower the curtain to 300-500Hz, and you get some correction for the bass region only.
(Also Gene you are correct that the Flat setting in the AVR doesn’t have the MRC dip if you’re using an old AVR that doesn’t support the App; however if you use the App then the MRC setting applies to both Flat and Reference!)
I’ve the same setting for 2 channel listening. Focal front speakers and two Dali subs. Marantz 6014 + Rotel RB 1590. Marantz 6014 pre out fronts
I found it easier to simply switch between DIRECT and STEREO for comparison as I was always going to use Audyssey to help smooth out bass. Just remember to use REFERENCE once you have set the cut off so it applies. You should easily be able to tell that FLAT is still applying full range EQ. It was night and day to me so I am currently only using EQ to 500hz but my old much less expensive still highly rated speakers sounded better with full range EQ.
@@markym3870 flat - direct auto = subs included is much smoother and not boomy for music listening in my room. Curtain 300 MHz. I prefer these settings. .
Are you sure? As far as I know flat ignores any curve settings from the app, including the range limiter.
Mexican Chocolate from Tabasco is really one of the best I've tried, & I think you must try it too!!!
The number of tweaks you have to use to defeat the system is totally in contraction with the easy to use approach.
One thing you could add is first try to optimize your room without Audissey! If you did the job well You will hear how much audissey actually damage the sound. I use it only on my AV8805 for connivence to tackle 50Hz room modes as my room is too small for proper treatment. And i have to admit Audissey does a good job in the low end.

I have 20 year old Paradigm Reference speakers. They already have a midrange/tweet dip. Gotta watch this kind of stuff, and the only gripe I have is you have to buy the app to address this.
I think the Audyssey app and feature in my Denon receiver is it's best feature, but it seems like it is more complicated to use than necessary. That is, I think it's the best EQ tool, but it would be great if you could hear the results of changing the curve in real time.

I just watched this video and i want to thank you so much for the quality and quantity of infos regarding MultEq-X room correction.It's been of great help for me in my own room correction.
I was wondering if you've noticed that recommandation in the MultEQ-X user guide ,page 21 under "Tips for taking measurements" item 7 says "Vary the height of the microphone by a few inches between measurements positions to account of the standing waves between the floor and ceiling".Have you experimented this? could it bring a significative change or refinement in the whole calibration process?

Yes, try doing exactly that, and you can compare the results with other profiles that you measure. If you are calibrating for a single sweet spot, then I suggest you stay within that 20 inch or so mark that I mention in the video otherwise you’re going to spread the calibration measurement parameters out too far.

I’ve found that with the shape of your ear 👂🏼, the bouncy house speakers 🔊 can be used behind you for a definite improvement in height, but absolutely not in the front.
You will always be able to tell they’re speakers are toppers. Not anywhere near the effects of heights or ceilings.
This was so helpful for Denon users but I wish someone would do this for Yamaha YPAO room correction.

Good video, sadly my Denon avr does not have app support. However, Denon themselves and many other claim that the distances set with Audyssey is measuring delay. Not physical distance. So measuring the physical distance yourself doesn’t make sense, I notice I get best result when I leave the distances alone, especially bass.

One thing never gets mentioned is the filter frequency range on a subwoofer. It lets you set it between 20hz to 250hz. I’ve come across some people on your tube that set that 20hz but don’t explain why lol

Can't decide if I should buy my 15" pro studio in the back and my Sony 6.5" bookshelfs on stands along with a my Kenwood 8" non powered subs but have a line in and line out to the bookshelf with also got a set of JBL balcony speakers with the other sub while I take that back my plan is to run each left side of the speaker of the left of the receiver and the right speakers on the right speakers also was told that is true stereo with multiple speaker then when you use the eq it will work better
This Audyssey plus add-ons seems more like a Rube Goldberg machine. As for the presets, I've been enjoy that feature on my Pioneer Elite SC-99 for years, it's part of the MCACC PRO set up. I actually get 6 memory slots that will save different Eq, channel Levels, Distances if needed. It's seems to me like all of these systems have their pros and cons, but we need them in order to get the most out of our setup.

Great information as usual. I'm going to try some of these tips to recalibrate my home theater setup. Couple of questions though: A lot of people are pushing to get the biggest subs I can afford, usually 15" or 18". Are you saying that I would be better off with multiples of 10" or 12" instead? My room is extremely large, 6000+ cubic ft open floor plan with vaulted ceilings. I know SVS PB-1000 is cheap enough I could afford 4 of them for less than one 18" sub. Second question, Klipsch RP-8000F vs Paradigm Premier 800f. Are the Paradigms worth double the price of the Klipsch?

Why do you suggest disabling Dynamic EQ without any explanation? I find that when listening below reference it works nicely as Auddysey documentation suggests, as long as appropriate reference level offsets are used. You can't compensate for that with the curve as the curve is fixed for every volume level.
agreed :) for the majority of us reference level in a home environment is overkill so DEQ works great.
For me Audyssey XT's Dynamic EQ boosts surrounds way too much.
I have a Marantz NR1711 newly purchased for a business office and they want to control the volume using the web interface. The NR1711 doesn't appear have this function like the Marantz NR1601 from several years ago. You guys say to get it right sounding right in 2 channel listening to music first. Do you mean playing a cd through the blue ray player and with option set to music, and wich stereo mode? Basically my atmos setup to me sounds incredible, but trying to get good 2 channel audio out of my marantz av7702 has never happened for me. The music just sounds lifeless. I basically just use my marantz for atmos and other surround formats and have another amp and pre for stereo listening. I feel my marantz should sound excellent in 2 channel stereo but it sounds horrible. I have a switch box to switch my mains between my surround amp and my 2 channel amp. Any advice?

I am a heretic, and used Audyssey for the different purpose, of course positioning the microphone differently. First of all, my 4-way system consisting of a horn sub under the floor, woofers in concrete boxes, line arrays in walls, with added arrays of tweeters, have pretty bumpy frequency response, that Audyssey made almost flat. And second, I do not want Audyssey to screw it according to inevitable nulls and bumps that the room causes in the microphone, even with a shelf from floor to the ceiling with a mattress topper behind it on the wall, but castrating the frequency band for it is the wrong way, IMHO. The next time I will try the app, thank you! :)

Put vertical blinds on that window in back . I have a wall of glass doors but vertical blinds stop any reflection anomalies . (they are also adjustable)

I have had a Marantz 7007 for about six years. This video was informative because the on screen audyssey guide shows microphone positions at literal seating positions with no mention of the 21 inches from main seating position restriction. There is no mention of this in the operating manual. Is this a newer requirement that does not apply my version of Audyssey? This seems to fundamental to have been missed in this huge manual that was shipped as a CD.
It’s definitely one of those fine print things and it’s very easy for people to miss. I agree it should be more obvious. I’ve encountered enthusiast who are telling me that they are measuring near the side walls and here and there and creating all this Voodo. It’s pretty straightforward not more than 2 feet from the primary listening measurement. :-)
After Audyssey calibration I turn off dynamic eq because my 2 surrounds are too loud and my bass feels boomy. Audyssey sets my subs at -9 and -8.5db. You say when dynamic eq is off subs are then -3 to -6db lower output. What’s weird is that if I then set both subs -3db lower so -6 and -5.5db with dynamic eq off it sounds boomy again. If I just leave my subs to what Audyssey sets them with dynamic eq on to -9 and -8.5 but with dynamic eq off the subs sounds “tighter/punchier” so is it just my room? Why can’t subs just be easy to setup haha
I only changed the frequency to 80Hz on the speakers that audyssey set below 80Hz. 90Hz and above, I left alone. My fronts are from the 80's, and they do sound better with the midrange compensation.

Great video! I’ve been waiting for a really good tutorial like this for Audyssey! A friend of mine and I both just bought the new Anniversary edition Denon AVR A110. We’re both also using external amps especially for our sound stage. One thing I’ve found on this video that’s not correct, well, at least not with my A110, is you CAN adjust your subs in the red above 75db and it’ll still let you continue with the calibration using whatever DB level you chose. For example I chose 80dbl’s and I could still continue with Audyssey for the rest of the way. So you may want to double check that again. Maybe they just started letting us do this? IDK? As I just ran Audyssey last week. But I had no problems with my dual SB16 Ultra’s.
There are newer tweaks in the 2020 models with Audyssey such as being able to load two measurements that are not in pre-2020 models. This may be another (?)
@@TheoNicolakis yes, I posted that in one of Gene’s other videos. Since the A110 is supposed to be the “Anniversary Edition” of what Denon has achieved. You’d think it would have every possible feature Denon offers in their 2020 models. Especially since the A110 was made in Oct 2020. Regardless of it being an Audiophile version of the 8500. But, with the Audyssey app you can store as many preset calibrations as you want as long as you’re willing to update the A110 with the app.
@@TheoNicolakis Look into the Ratbuddyaudyssey program it allows you to take the files from the room corrections and bring them up on the computer and adjust them in more detail and can do everything the apps can do and more. Its worth checking it out !!

Just in case this has not been said, if anybody is using a Marantz prepro with an Emotiva amp and XLR cables hooked up, you will get a false phase error during Audyssey calibration. All Gen3 Emotiva amps are XLR pin 3 hot and pin 2 cold, which is out of phase. Emotiva recommended that in order to fix this, reverse the speaker wire polarity on the output side of your amplifier. I can confirm that this works.
Totally love all the livestream topics... but one thing is missing in multy subs.. what if someone only has 2 subwoofers.. in the option on 4 subs at corners what should one do.. same side front and back or diagonal front and back !!! As most of us would have 2 subs
It really depends on the room but you can try 1 sub in each corner if you want the most LF coupling. One sub front/rear midwalls can give really good seat to seat consistency but not as much LF coupling as corner placements. Diagonal corners can work but a bit tricky.

I have the Denon X3700H the ultra towers and the pb 3k, have to save a little more for a center and surround s 🤗 is it save to sett my ultra towers at 60 hertz, i like the way it is sounding now, audyssey set them at 40 large i think 60hertz at small sounds better 😁 i hope you can ansher me, being a no full member 😃
I think Gene would agree with me that you would be better served to do the crossover at 60 and possibly even 80 Hz. Let your ears be the final judge!

44:05: How do you do this measurement, how do you get this graph? With which tool? Is this also done with the Audyssey smartphone app? I understand that this is measured after Audyssey calibration with all speakers and subs being active simultaneously. So I must play some test signal here.
And then if I get the red curve, where and how in Audyssey app do I have to frickle to get the blue curve? Just kind of random trial & error of playing around with modifying delay values a bit as I understand (44:51)?
Audioholics I have noticed that when I select Dynamic EQ on my bass tends to sound better should I leave it on or off on my Denon receiver thank you
If it sounds better to you with DEQ on, why would you turn it off?! The ultimate advice is to understand what the features do and choose the settings that give you the sound you like best (I'm learning this too!). If you like DEQ then you probably aren't listening at high volume so DEQ is helping the low end, as intended. Leave it on if it works for you, in your room, at your preferred levels👍

What are your thoughts regarding the solution by Sound United for the HDMI 2.1 issues they had in Denon & Marantz AVR's. A "dongle" seems a bit inadequate when purchasing a $5,000+ AUD AVR.
I've owned at least a handful of Onkyo receivers and they all had the "Eiffel Tower" audyssey mic. The last Onkyo receiver i bought was back in 2015 and it came with the " hockey puck" style setup mic. Did they go back to the tall mic again? I have both mics that i can use with my 2015 Atmos receiver 😳😜😄
I haven’t had an on cue receiver in hand for review in some time so I can’t give you a definitive answer. That being said you want to use the mic style that came with your AVR.
So, if I have an iphone 14 transmitting audio to my vintage system I'm assuming I don't need either one of these? What would you suggest for iphone users?
Hello Gene. Thanks for releasing great videos and tips on AVR Setup. This video says when using the Audyssey App to set the MultiEQ Filter Frequency Range to 200Hz or 300Hz. Should this range be set on all speakers or just the Subwoofer?

I live near a busy road and all I want is PLEASE add a PAUSE TESTING feature between speakers during the test.
Or better yet it could be done speaker by speaker one at a time? I could wait for a dead silent moment and test the speaker and then wait for another and hit the next speaker....That would be wonderful...I just think it is a no brainer to add something to deal with unexpected sounds. Maybe a stop and restart back one speaker if something happens?
I need to be able to pause the testing when I hear a big truck or noisy car coming. It is very frustrating getting five or eight speakers in round after round and then you hear the truck coming and there is nothing to do but cancel the whole thing.
Unless I missed something...unlike the AVR audyssey, the app won't let you start that round over... it makes you cancel the entire thing and start over
You don't have to start over. After the test for one of the 8 positions is complete then there is an option at the bottom is to "repeat test. Marantz SR6011.

@@voiceofreason9238 no problem I knew what you meant. The Denon AVR has that option too but I use the app and it does not have that option. Can be pretty frustrating.
Check out the ratbuddy audessy program it will allow you to take the room correction files and load them up and adjust them on your computer just like the app and can allow for more precise edits to the curves.
Really informative video! Loved it, guys! One simple question, though. You mentioned a few times "high quality speakers". Now you guys surely have top-of-the-line gear throughout your systems, but at what floor pricetype would you rate them as such? I'm mostly asking regarding midrange compensation, as I'm really more into music, even though my cinema setup significantly counts for me. For instance, I have a pair of Monitor Audio Silver 300 for my fronts. I wouldn't grade them as "low-end" (at around 2500 CAD, they're not cheap), but would they deserve midrange compensation? I don't know, based on the "high quality" comments ;)
That’s a great question. So both Gene and I had an off microphone extended conversation about this topic as I did with another well-known reviewer. The general consensus is that midrange compensation seeks to address an issue with speaker designs from 15-20 some odd years ago but not so much today. I think the best advice is to let your ears decide. In my particular set up midrange compensation has an audible adverse effect on the performance of the speakers. The audio hobby is all about enjoying the music!

At 34:09, 43:07, 43:36, 48:00, you guys say about Dynamic EQ, Dynamic Volume, LFC: Set all this in the app, not in the AVR itself. I do not quite understand why. Couldn't I just set all these options to "Off" in the app, then load it to the AVR, and later-on in the AVR I could still decide to e.g. set Dynamic EQ to "ON" when needed (e.g. when playing music at low volumes) while keeping the other settings unchanged. And similarly for Dynamic Volume and LFC? I also think the OSD menu in the AVR has the options to set these to more different values then just ON or OFF, so I could tune it finer to my needs than in the mobile app. Or can't I set these settings in the OSD any more when my Audyssey calibration stems from the mobile app, and it only works when I do the Audyssey room calibration on the AVR without app?!?
My wife sits about 5 feet from the tv and I sit near the back of the room ( 12 feet away)…and I have a bit of a hearing loss so I want to split the center channel so I can hear the dialogue…. Wil the Marantz 8015 allow me to do that
I just bought a Denon because it was literally the only receiver left at Best buy because of Bidenomics. Did basic set up and it sounds amazing. I'm going to try you audiophile's guidance tomorrow and see if I can kill myself softly with a song.
Do you also limit the hz of the woofer or should you leave it at 250?
The people at Audyssey seem very anti flat setting for whatever reason. I'm for whatever sounds best. Trying it tonight!

I just have (maybe a stupid) question: How is one supposed to use external pink noise in order to get the system set up without the denon's own pink noise? I mean, I uploaded the sound pack to my shield so I can run them through there, but is there a way to designate speakers one by one? If I select multi-channel stereo I can have all the speakers play, but I have to disconnect all other speakers to get just one play? Am i just dumb?

I would have been nice if they would have told how to do this. They did a great job on telling you need to do it but nothing more than that. Gene wants you to set a appointment up and give him 100 to tell you.
That’s not a stupid question at all. There’s a couple of different ways to do it. First is if you have any calibration disk that will play pink noise through an individual speaker or even some of those old THX tones that have the speaker set up tones. Secondly you can use one of the download links to download the files to a computer or other streaming source. If all else fails then you can certainly use the internal test tones on the Denon. While it’s not the preferred method if that’s all you have, then that’s all you have and give it a go. www.dynaudio.com/support/pink-noise

I saw in another answer that you can configure a mac to direct the dynaudio test tones to each individual channel. I do not have a mac and have not been able to find a way to direct the tone to an individual speaker in windows. I am looking for a good test disc now. Any recommendations? And is using ASIO4ALL in REW to direct pink noise to each channel as accurate as a disc with test tones?
Maybe I'm a little confused. If your only measuring 20" away from the MLP, how are you supposed to measure a multi seat home theater room? I must have misunderstood.
The Schroeder frequency makes a huge difference for me for music.
So, what would you recommend if you are setting up a half room? Setting up a theature in a basement, total room ix 21x24, but only going to set up the listening/viewign area in a 12x20 section, but it will still be open (more or less) to rest of space, renting so can't really do any walls. My original plan was either left and right up front about the 1/3 2/3 method. I coudl do the "corners" behind my screen,but the left side isn't really a corner, and I think that would put my left and right towers further in then I would like. My other thought was front and back corners, but kind fo same deal, the back sub if within the viewing area woldn't be in the corner, more like a 2/3. Also not sure I want the subs that close to the neighboring wall, though not sure that would actually matter much to reduce sonic transmission, though I do plan to decouple them from the floor. I guess wherever I put them, you always want the driver to face the listening position though right? What about like a front and back but offset slightly, so the drivers are firing next to each other vs directly opposed? Not even sure I'll go multi sub right away as much as I want to, I might have to stick with my single dual driver for right now. Projector, screen, new pre-pro new OLED, the expenditures are mounting, might need to cool it a bit, but good to know where to start when I do get there.
I've been calibrating, then using Manual(native pink noise) to level each speaker to reference, with the volume turned up to 0db, with an SPL. You're saying that's not the correct way to do it using the AVR? How do I adjust the levels? Using the app, I've been uploading the profile, adjusting the levels with the AVR, then entering the changes manually into the app profile so I won't have to do it again. But, that must be wrong, too. So, once you've calibrated using the app, and have an external pink noise file, how do you level the speakers?
Newbie here. First set up and am going to re-run with the app. I don’t understand if eliminating the curve to 300, how does turning off mid range compensation change anything? Isn’t that above the 300? Due to my lack of experience, if mid range comp is at 2k area, eliminate eq above 300, isn’t mid range being eliminated by that?

Did you find a solution? Same question I have. I ran with the app but cant set/check the levels in the app. Loaded it to the 4700 and then did the set/check in manual.
Just ran through XT32 on my x3700h. Results seem different but I still need testing and REW measurements to compare setting my Tekton DI as small/large. Coming from a Pioneer sc-27, I'm kind of amazed at how feature lean XT32 is in comparison. MCACC had 5 profile banks with the ability to set different EQ curves on the fly for them 15 years ago and Denon gives us 2 and boasts about it as a "new" feature. I was also kind of surprised by how the entirety of the calibration was just 3 short chirps and that's it. Maybe it's just so much better that it doesn't need all the extra tests, but it doesn't inspire that confidence in me. PEQ is a pretty big miss here as I'd like to limit the room correction, but at the same time we've been watching movies and the highs in action movies and thing like The Hobbit/LOTR have been painfully piercing, so I need the full ban to ad din a downslope for the treble.
