    Have learned alot in this video.
    Can not believe how many u tubers out there with 100s of thousands of subribers preaching to viewers multi sub is a must and then have their subwoofers 3 feet apart 🤣. Thus making it basically one sub!

    With regards to running dual subs, I run an Aperion Audio Bravus II 12 inch sub in the front right corner of the room and then an identical sub, but with a 10 inch driver in the opposite corner and very close to the primary listening position. This accomplishes two main improvements. First, it makes the bass so much more present without being boomy or airy and it also makes it much more tactile. I wish the Denon X series offered sub eq for dual subs!

    • @jaylundgreen
      @jaylundgreen 3 года назад

      *correction* Denon X series offers sub eq on the 3700 and higher. It's part of the Multeq 32XT. It is not an in depth calibration per se, but a volume equalizer for each sub.

    • @matsudakodo
      @matsudakodo 3 года назад +1

      Denon has had this feature for many years on the X3000 series and higher. It measures each sub individually, adjusts delays for the best response, then equalizes them as one for the best results at your seat. In my experience using it it works far better than most other systems out there without going to a JBL Synthesis custom setup.

    Please, after years of many users clamimg, request audyssey or directly implement dynEQ option to turn off surround channels overall volume increase. In my case when volume is -40dB I have to lower rr/atmos speakers volume to additional -8 or -10dB to have optimal sound stage.
    For people who must have couch close to rear wall and must have rr side speakers very close to couch is this really a must. Even Jeff Clark has couch on rr wall and nice diffusers so I think he must know how it works 🤔

    Please please please introduce new target curves into the mobile app! I love the app but it needs more options for target curves. Plotting your own is really hard on a touch screen device. A simple 2/4/6/8/10db bass tilt would be ideal!
    And please decouple DynEQ from the surrounds. I love what it does for bass, but really it doesn't work for surrounds in my setup with Atmos and side surrounds.

    Brief Question for Phil:
    Is there any chance of getting an option in the Audyssey App to fine tune the Surround Boost part of DynEQ? I enjoy what it does to the Bass, but it raises the Volume on the Surrounds, Rears and Rear Heights by far too much, thus destroying the Surround Balance.
    I have heard directly from Audyssey that making the Surround Boost seperate from the Bass Boost is trivial, but have also heard from Sound United in Germany, that this would add additional licence fees.
    My proposition would be, to add this toggle (Surround boost Off or Reference Offset 0-5-10-15 just like Dynamic EQ) to the app,aybe even with an additional fee to the User, sold as an inApp Purchases maybe? I personally would not mind paying another 10-50€ to get this option via the app.
    What do you think? Thanks!

      They just don't care about the app anymore. No more money to make 🤑🤑🤑
      It's frustrating because DEQ is great for bass, but that surround boost is not needed for most people. It is way too aggressive and the user should be able to just disable it. It destroys the balance of the system.
      Audyssey needs to fix this, but after all these years I think we are sadly out of luck. 🤦‍♂️

  • @carstenjensen6728
    @carstenjensen6728 2 года назад +1

    It actually seems "funny" at this point, that Audyssey/Sound United don't react OR fix the main issue that people have with Audyssey......... The problem with the surrounds being boosted too much or even being boosted at all.
    A lot of people keep complaining about this problem, as it really makes most peoples systems sound very unbalanced and rear-heavy.
    Why not make an on/off toggle for that specific surround "feature".
    Almost everyone likes what Dynamic EQ does with bass, but really dislike that surround boost.
    I listen at -15 dB from reference and have set the surrounds -3 dB lower to compensate when using DEQ.
    This is not optimal, but a compromise.
    Please listen to feedback from users regarding this issue. 🙏
    Regards from Denmark 😊

    Does Dynamic EQ hurt accuracy??

  • @rolandrohde
    @rolandrohde 4 года назад +6

    Audyssey is a great system, but it needs to be more flexible. My main gripe with Audyssey has been the fact, that DynEQ does great things to LFE, but sadly messes up the surround balance by turning up the Volume on Surrounds, Rears and Top Rears far too much. This has been a complaint since Day1 and for some Reason, despite being an easy fix, it has never been changed. Simply offering a separate option for the Surround Balance would solve it once and for all times...so why bit do it?

      Always felt like that was the case and a while ago I got a (Cheap) SPL meter and started fixing it. Here's hoping that they sort that out at some point. Especially since I'm looking to the 2020 models of Denon :P

    • @SoundUnitedTraining
      @SoundUnitedTraining  4 года назад +1

      Because most people don't play movies at reference volume, Dynamic EQ is intended to provide the surround experience and impact of playing a movie at reference level which is OdB on the volume knob.
      At lower volumes, most people are less sensitive to bass and surround at lower volumes. Dynamic EQ variably boosts channel levels based on volume level. This technology is based on the Fletcher-Munson curve and other scientific research.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equal-loudness_contour
      The closer you get to reference volume (0dB), the less channel boost is applied. Once you reach reference volume the channel boost is automatically eliminated. If you turn down the surround channels with Dynamic EQ engaged at volumes below 0dB, the channel levels will be too low at reference volume.
      If you want to change the volume scale on your AVR from (0 - 98) to (-79.5 dB - 18.0 dB), the information can be found below
      manuals.denon.com/AVRX8500H/NA/EN/GFNFSYwrfimgdw.php

      I am aware of all that and I appreciate the idea. However, in my experience the Surround Boost, unlike the Bass Boost just doesn't work for many scenarios. Especially in Games, the Soundstage focus often moves to the back. I usually listen between 20-30db, and in that case the Surrounds get boosted by up to 6db which is simply too much.

    • @rolandrohde
      @rolandrohde 4 года назад

      @@SoundUnitedTraining another thing about DynEQ:
      How does it decide how much Bass and Surround Boost to apply? Does it just react to the Main Volume knob, or the actual Volume? Because, a Movie played via the AppleTV 4K is usually about 4-6db softer at the same Main Volume setting as the exact same Movie playing through the AppleTV app on a different Device because the AppleTV plays everything as PCM which is somehow treated differently Volume wise than Bitstream DD+

    • @SoundUnitedTraining
      @SoundUnitedTraining  4 года назад

      It order for Dynamic EQ to function properly, Audyssey first needs to establish and set the reference volume level in your room. Audyssey adjusts channel levels so "0" on the volume knob is corresponds with the reference volume of a actual theater. Dynamic EQ then adjusts levels, equalization based how much below reference volume the content is currently being played.

      I'm not using height channels, but I've heard from a lot of users, that these are boosted just as much as the surround channels.
      DEQ adds about 1 dB of gain for every 5 dB you go below reference.
      So, at -5dB below reference it adds about 1 dB of gain.
      At -10 below reference it adds about 2 dB of gain.
      I normally listen at -15 below reference, so I've decreased the level of the surrounds by 3 dB to compensate for the added 3 dB gain done by DEQ.
      The problem with this is when listening louder than -15 (e.g. at reference 0 dB), then the surrounds are too low compared to the rest of the speakers because no gain is added at reference.
      🤦‍♂️
      I really don't understand why Audyssey does not provide a simple on/off toggle for this in the audyssey settings within the app..... Just like we have for Dynamic Volume.
      A LOT of people are complaining about this and DEQ is a great way of creating that dynamic house curve - without the added "feature" of the surrounds dominating the room.
      Most people that I know have their surrounds quite close in their living rooms and they don't need to be boosted at all.
      Maybe it works when the surrounds are way back from your ears, but PLEASE give us the option to turn it OFF!!!!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
