Thanks for sharing this Justin. My grandma would have us kids pick plantain to cook and eat. Jewel weed was used freshly picked for poison ivy and bug bites, and the orange flowers were added to salads. They have a mild pepper taste.
I've been making it for years. I spend a lot of time outside especially spring, summer, and fall. I'm always getting bites and stings. I can attest to the potency to plantain. I make it by the quart and give it to friends and family. My daughters and grand children like it as a lip balm.
Plantain this year is scarce up here in Pa. Both varieties. Dry and hot, then temps dipped down into the 40's last week, weather whiplash. I went and got me some jewel weed yesterday, had to go 30 miles away to get it. I went for nettles and here someone tore out all my patches in the woods I go to. My heart felt sick. I am of Native American heritage and was taught to only take every third plant. One for me, leave one for the critters and one to keep the plants going. And give thanks to GOD for it. I heard jewel weed was hard to dry, Going to try go get some more and try it. Kim in Pa.
You are a voice of reason and I appreciate it !!! If you or anyone else here wants seeds for jewel weed, I can save some and send you. It grows in a shady moist area, it will grow in a sunny area if is kept moist, like on the edge of a pond or swampy area. I brought some home and laid it on my table on the deck to dry a little, the next year I was overrun with it, I had no idea it seeded so easily ! I’ve got lots of plantain seeds too if anyone wants them. Heck, I’m a master weed grower 😜
i think if you was to run onto one of them old fat seperators looks like a small coffee pot or a small tea pot that would be ideal for pouring the salves into the tins
Hey Justin! Nature... the first Drug Store... for those who have the knowledge! Dad ALWAYS did say, "NEVER strain a tool. Just use a bigger hammer!". Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!
@SpiritoftheOutdoors Thank you. Best to do it your way, since you already know how and I don't, also I can watch again if I forget something. THANKS AGAIN 😊
Could you comment your email, I really need some of that salve. My wife gets poison ivy all the time, and want it incase my granddaughter gets stung because we have red wasps and fire ants bad here in NW Arkansas. Enjoy the videos very much.

@@SpiritoftheOutdoors great, if you need any let me know ! It’s nice to have a patch growing close to home.
Do you have a mention of getting the oil from the hemp plant?
Thank you for the video! I like to melt my beeswax and oil in a pyrex measuring cup, makes pouring the hot liquid a little easier. Love your channel.
❤❤❤
It cracks me up when you crack yourself up !!!
Plantain salve is best thing I know of for chigger bites. This video is gold.
Good morning thanks for sharing!!

Hey, cool video man. I just threw some of that plantain spit on my arm today on a few bug bites. Have fun. God bless.

@@TheTribeOfBenjamin thank you. Love your videos brother
Good morning brother Justin. Early to bed early to rise fish like heck and make up lies. 😂😅😂😅
We always pronounced this as "plan tin" or "plan ten". I've always distinguished "plan tayn" with the long A as the bannana type fruit.
Hey I was wondering if that will draw infection out of a wound because I might have to make some tia
I was born in the mornin’, but it wasn’t THIS mornin’! 😂😂😂

If you use the coconut oil, since it cools to a solid do you still add the wax?
@@amylambert-o4p now that i cant answer. Id guess not as much for sure

Your nephew could use a 5 gallon bucket of plantain salve. He gets bit by ants every time I turn around 🙄🤦🏻♀️
@@heartofpinehomestead6151 it will stop the bite from making a head
