As an openly gay hip hop fan. When I was a kid, I wished I had a voice like Lil Nas X making music. what he is doing is truly monumental. He deserves all of the accolades and kudos for providing gay kids who like rap with music like this
I’m happy for you. As a black man, I know what it’s like to long for that kind of representation in different forms of media. That’s why I root for Lil Nas, cause I know he’s helping people like him feel normal and appreciated in society

Growing up I knew of and listened to plenty of gay rappers but it always got frustrating knowing they'd never blow up or nobody would take their music seriously, regardless of their talent. While lnx isn't making music I would enjoy I understand it's this music that would allow him to be visible to the people who need to see him
I became a huge Lil Nas X fan this morning. I love this album! One of my favorite projects of the Year! I cannot stop listening to it!!! “Dead Right Now” is EVERYTHING! The track with Millie, Elton John! I really love the album!
miley was the only feature that could’ve done am i dreaming justice, her voice along that slow tempo and guitar plus as you perfectly said; it was very full circle for him i loved it
This is such an iconic debut album from Lil Nas X it's going to be remembered for a long time especially with that incredible album rollout he gave us all year long
I grew up in a conservative household and have always struggled with same-sex relationships due to bad parenting. While I have always supported lgbtq marriage and had no issue with individuals themselves, it was hard to shake what I had been taught for decades. Montero is the perfect example of why representation matters. Lil Nas X created an album about his love life (the ups, the downs, and his pursuit of love) - and I found it to be so beautiful. This record really touched me, and i was able to connect with his experiences. While I have always been for people loving whoever they want, I still had prejudice and bias in my heart. But i mean it when I say this album opened up my heart to his experiences, and made me realize how we are all the same. This comment probably comes off as dumb. I don’t really know how to explain myself. I just know this album really moved me, and opened my heart and mind. I have always felt ashamed for my upbringing. I’m just glad as an adult i was able to grow and change. I agree with Kid Cudi that Lil Nas X is going to be an important figure that will help break the walls down. I know as an ignorant man who grew up in a prejudice household, this album spoke to me - and made me realize how beautiful love can actually be.
I’m glad it helped you come to accept us more! That totally makes sense. I think this album is great because the songs portray how queer love is no different than hetero love. We have the same struggles and desires, painful break ups, loneliness, etc. Sure, us LGBTQ+ people have some extra struggles obviously, but our feelings of love and relationships work the same way. And it might be uncomfortable for straight people since they don’t see it often, but I think the provocative scenes actually made an important point about how much more stigmatized queer sexuality is. If the the music videos with gay flirting/sexiness had been hetero, people wouldn’t have been as mad. Makes it obvious that it’s not really about how explicit something is, it’s about whether or not it’s “deviant” for being openly gay in the same ways straight rappers have been openly straight.
It doesn’t sound dumb. I’ve watched that happen in real time on reactions to the That’s What I Want video. Under all the “shock value” (🙄 old school metal head and LGBTQ+ ally here-not shocked) and trolling, he’s able to be relatable af.
props to you for learning to break through learned prejudice and being able to open your heart to people who don’t share your same love life. it means a lot as someone in the lgbt+ community to hear someone say that they learned and decided not to keep hatred in their heart just because we love different people
Your comment isn't dumb at all, I really appreciate it. I'm gay but i struggled many years to accept myself and overcoming the internalized homophobia and shame. So I know how you might have felt and also deeply undertand what Lil Nas is portraying on his lyrics. I wish I had a referent like him 20 years ago, but at least I can now be happy that millions around the world have him.
i’m saying this now, Lil Nas X made one of the most significant songs ever “Montero” a gay mainstream rap/pop song from a poc. And i love that he doesn’t put himself or actions down to please the general audience, he’s just himself. this is really important
Jon's got a very good balance of sensitivity and passion but also perception and analytic ability. I always find myself thinking "I'm so glad he noticed that". I just remembered that Jon's reaction to the Montero music video is what made me a subscriber. I think the Lana del Rey videos are what made me a Patron.

Tales of Dominica is not only my favorite Lil Nas X song, but one of my favorite songs period. It's so hauntingly beautiful, and the lyrics hit SO hard.
Such a great artist. His music is consistent and he’s a marketing genius. When it comes to the album, I really like it, but the main problem is that the pacing is off. All the slower more emotional songs are towards the end and there’s only like one banger in the second half. I wish the songs were put in a different order personally, but overall very good album! I hope hip hop gets to a place where it doesn’t matter wether you’re gay or straight, and you’re judged solely by your musical merit. Unfortunately at the moment, a lot of old heads and purists will overlook him because he’s gay. It doesn’t seem to be affecting him tho, he’s still killing it and he’s one of the most talented in the game honestly, regardless of sexual preference or whatever. I think when we look back on nas x, we will see him as a genius
