@@iel2865 Y'all like to pretend this "fantano fans don't have their own opinions" meme is true, but any longtime watcher of fantano knows that his fans will tear him apart like rabid dogs if they don't like his opinion on an album
Seeing a proud black gay man lead the biggest album rollout of the year and smash through the mainstream to the point of being arguably the biggest artist in the world right now? That just adds so much for me personally. It's hard to even imagine this 5 years ago let alone 25. None of us got to grow up with that kind of pride and self assuredness displayed in public. There wasn't this kind of acclaim and success and positive attention and support given to black artists outside of "their lane" and CERTAINLY not to openly gay ones. Sure there are detractors, but on the whole it seems like the vast majority of people are rooting for Lil Nas X and his success and that... Just means a lot. The music is amazing, I personally don't think there's really a dud track. But the narrative and the artist behind it add to this album in a way that makes this one of my favourite projects of the last 5 years. It just means so much.
Seriously asking as a straight cis gender black male…what is it about lil nas x that grasp y’all’s support? Like there’s lgbtq artist I’m genuinely a fan of…Tyler,Kevin,Frank, and blood orange..but for some reason they don’t get the support and love lil nas x gets even though they’re music is way less generic and way more creative…is it because how in your face with it nas is?
@@iDewThis4Yu Part of it yes that. He's unapologetic and very blatant. You could go your whole life and probably know Tyler or Frank weren't straight. They can pass pretty well. You couldn't go 5 minutes without knowing Nas X is gay. That's very unique for an artist as big as he. Gay men, especially black gay men, are stereotyped and face hatred from everyone everywhere. Especially within their own communities. That's what makes an artist who CAN'T pass as straight all the more... meaningful.
@@iDewThis4Yu But another part is just taste. Tyler's music hasn't really been jam and it's hard to get anything from Frank with his release pattern. Lil Nas X gets the love he does because he has embraced a lot of cutting edge marketing and social media campaigning and promotion and personal connections. Frank Ocean by comparison is a hermit. That doesn't help that comparison either. This is by no means a drag on the other guys, don't get me wrong. It's just a very clear difference.
the 3 reasons why melon took off 3 points from the album: 1. he didn't get a lap dance by lil nas x 2. he wasnt invited to the shower scene in industry baby 3. lil nas x didn't do the sexy sexy stuff with melon in the That's What I Want video
This album was way better than I was expecting. Honestly I was going into the album thinking I would give it the same score as fantano, but I ultimately heard so many memorable and great melodies, and just SO much personality, that I'm leaning more towards a decent 8. fantano's least fav track was also my favorite on the album, though I will say if Melon's convinced me of anything its that even though I still like That's what I want it does sounds a lot like a soap commercial
Yah I want even gonna listen too it . But it is kinda fresh , damn emo rap guess is the trend. It’s pop asf but tracks are nice. Easy listen but lil lacking in depth.
I’ve never agreed with a review more in my life, especially that part where you really dived into your bisexuality and how you’ve got “twice the options and picked none of them”. Proud of you, Melon.
This is why I love the subjectivity of listening to music; while I agree with a lot of Melon's points I have to say I think Lost in the Citadel is my favourite song (or at least favourite new song). I think the roughness of the production contrasts well with the shiny pop-like aspects and works to convey the desperation of his situation and how he's miserable but not totally hopeless. On the other hand while I did still like Dolla Sign Slime I felt that one was particularly a little disappointing. Something about it just doesn't really feel finished or fully fleshed out and I don't think Megan thee Stallion's part really lived up to it's potential either. I felt this way about Montero as well but that one grew on me so I'll give it some time.
I feel like That’s what I want is just an important Pop song for gay teens who wouldn’t haven’t had one. Growing up with music about your sexuality is really validating, even if a lil generic
Yeah when he used "yogurt commercial" as an insult it's like fuck you Mel, I'd rather Lil Nas X be making the yogurt commercial music than a Brill Building algorithm.
a stunning debut album. it's so satisfying to see a guy I knew had this in him back during OTR really come out and amaze the world with his genuine artistry... and if it's satisfying for me, I can't imagine how good Lil Nas feels. I give this one a solid 8. when "Dead Right Now" came on, I was slain. there's no weakness in that hook for me. and the final moment on the album (you know what I'm talking about) - left me a little speechless.
yeah lmao the sour guitar riff was S-tier and I loved it. It's like he decided "look ma I could go back in time and dominate 90s rock charts if I wanted"
i like the whole album it's makes me feel empowered, motivated and sad... personally i really like scoop, that's what i want, dolla sign slime, and one of me... i think montero is a great representation of LGBT too ,lil nas x is killing it!!
@@beatrixixityyyy4302 Thanks. Too many people nowadays are so quick to disrespect me Just because I disagree. You’re one of the few good ones out there, keep it up
Personally I think Elton John was the weakest feature on this project, I was expecting much more seeing as it was two gay icons who made such an impact on their generations teaming up and it ended up being some mere backing piano. It was the equivalent of when St Vincent was on a gorillaz track, everyone was expecting so much more since it had released around the time when she was starting to grow more and more and making a big impact on the music industry as an empowering woman, but she ended up just having some backing vocals during the chorus. Just a little underwhelming. Other than that, this was a great album for it being his debut, and it does seem like he hasn’t found his specific sound yet, but who’s to say that’s a bad thing? This album really felt like a way to experiment with different vibes and genres to see what works best for him, and I’m interested in seeing where he goes from here.
To be sure not giving Sir Elton some vocals was the only real misstep on the album for me. After the crushing and beautiful Gorrilaz track Pink Phantom the bar for an Elton John feature was set astronomically high and LNX had him show up short.
A Light 7 is basically 7.4, but we should always add a 0.1 to make it look symmetrical, so a 7.5, but if we round that up, its an 8, since an album getting an 8 is the same as an 9, this album is definitely a *9*, and a 9 is same as an 10 so, this album is a 10/10. Thank you melon
Personally. I went from not knowing or paying any attention to him, since I'm a metal fan, I basically just never paid any attention to him other than knowing old town road. But I saw controversy, and I use that word sarcastically, over his video for Industry Baby. I watched and listened to it and got addicted. And watched and listened more and more. And within a span of 24 hours listened to the whole album multiple times. And that was only on friday and Saturday. And now I'm a huge fan. I give the album a 9/10 if only because I know he has room to grow and everything isn't perfect but I enjoy it so much regardless.
This is pretty much my story, too, although he caught me with the controversy around CMBYN, and I *hadn’t* heard Old Town Road. I’m pretty sure I’ve listened to Montero every day since it dropped, except maybe Christmas.
For a debut pop album, this album is a bop from beginning to end. Tons of style range, authenticity, and vulnerability. His marketing and social media presence is quite literally unmatched right now. His imagine and music might not be fore everyone, but that’s why he’s so polarizing. Dude is a genuine talent, and we’re literally witnessing the rise of the next pop culture music icon.
Taking into account how young he is and the fact he is carving his own path I think this album was strong and he’s got a vast amount of opportunity ahead of him
You’re a hipster if you like My Beautiful Dark Twisted fantasy. That album is so trash and overrated and I wish people would stop praising it. It’s almost as Overrated as Frank Oceans Blonde.

Personally I’d say this is an 8/10. Yeah there were some beats and vocal melodies that were a little bland, but that is absolutely made up for by the ultra-catchy hooks, pseudo-experimentalism with certain instrumentals (Life After Salem is absolutely fantastic at this) and just the right amount of quality features to make it all pop. Just overall a really great record from lil nas and I can’t wait to see what he does next.
@@VeritableVagabond maybe, though I don’t see how that’s relevant. There are plenty of great albums out there that I haven’t listened to since they first released or since I discovered them. Doesn’t mean they don’t hold up, it just means that I don’t want to hear them constantly.
I see why you pulled that cheeky little gimmick at the start. On twitter you put up a poll saying will I wear the red or yellow flannel. Because you didn't want to rate it 8 and up or 4 and below, you had to pretend to wear one of them. To wear the yellow one and then take it off would be mean but to take off the red would lower the expectation and then go above it. Very interesting melon.
Talking the whole video about the album pointing out it's positive and negative sides and breaking down every song on it then giving it a proper score based on your personal level of enjoyment and musical experience isn't a review, Melon.
This is one of the better reviews I've seen from you, not that most others are lacking in quality, I just think it does a good job of showcasing your talents as a reviewer. Was thoroughly entertained and focused as you spoke, hanging on to your words for just a moment before my ears became inundated with your next thought. Lots of colorful/expressive and intelligent language utilized alongside a smooth and relaxed tone. Well done melon.
For what Melon said about most songs and Lil Nas as an artist I get the feeling this should’ve been an strong 8, not only that but this album showcases the experimentation and different branches of hip-hop can be, other artists like Ye, Tyler, Kendrick Lamar, or The Weeknd have done this, of course, but because Lil Nas is an arguably more well-known celebrity and downright influencer, these variations of Hip-Hop will reach greater attention from the mainstream
this was the anti-hype album I needed after exhausting myself preparing for Donda and CLB. And I liked it even better than both. Just a really well written and produced album

Elton John Brudda
Nah hard pass ..pause.
the 3 reasons why melon took off 3 points from the album:

This album was way better than I was expecting. Honestly I was going into the album thinking I would give it the same score as fantano, but I ultimately heard so many memorable and great melodies, and just SO much personality, that I'm leaning more towards a decent 8.
fantano's least fav track was also my favorite on the album, though I will say if Melon's convinced me of anything its that even though I still like That's what I want it does sounds a lot like a soap commercial

Yo ! I didn't know he was bi !

I felt this way about Montero as well but that one grew on me so I'll give it some time.

a stunning debut album. it's so satisfying to see a guy I knew had this in him back during OTR really come out and amaze the world with his genuine artistry... and if it's satisfying for me, I can't imagine how good Lil Nas feels. I give this one a solid 8. when "Dead Right Now" came on, I was slain. there's no weakness in that hook for me. and the final moment on the album (you know what I'm talking about) - left me a little speechless.

It was kind of weak but I did still enjoy it. It was pretty sounding in a way
Or like Michael Jackson and Drake.. it just never lived up to expectations 😂
is elton john actually on the album?
I was expecting him to sing as well but was not left disappointed after the song ended.

And within a span of 24 hours listened to the whole album multiple times. And that was only on friday and Saturday. And now I'm a huge fan.
