Thank you very much. Those caterpillars drove me round the bend to the point that I stopped growing those greens. Will resume now after watching your video 🙏.
Thanks. I wish I had watched this before I planted collard seedlings. I sprayed the Neem Oil last week and no deal. I will get the Thuricide. Next year, I will integrate marigolds and onions. Much appreciated!
Hi Sandy, thank you so much for the Video about the tips for how to prevent the bugs from eating up my plants and vegetables, it was very nice Video and very helpful information. Really appreciate it.
Hello, I appreciate your video. I had been admiring my Collard and then boomp...it was being eaten. I found a little green horned worm. Omg-oodness, love the garden, even with its challenges, but I don't think I'll ever be use to the bugs. Lol, forget about hand-plucking to a bucket 😝 I've never grown Collards, but the spray I made with water, soap and oil..., took care of the pests, but my leaves felt oily/ waxy when harvested.❣ I brought them in to wash, but I don't think the residue was coming off. Everything went to compost...Ugh.😬 I wonder....do they usually feel waxy? The leaves felt strong, but didn't handle my scrubbing. 😬 I felt to boil or even blanche, but I wanted to try them in my salad fresh. Thanks ahead! I'm looking forward to your feedback.❣ ps. I clicked one of your Amazon links, just to see if you were in Canada. It looks like you are. 🥰 I'm on Vancouver Island 🌼
Hello Linda. I think it's the soap/oil combination that made it waxy. I prefer covering them with garden net to prevent the pests from getting in. I think Prevention is better than cure. 😊
Thank you MS. Sandy! More inspiration for us! Cabbage moth caterpillars have ruined so many plantings over my life. I have garden netting on the way, so I have high hopes for this year. I've managed to overwinter my tree collard indoors for the 2nd year in a row. But last year the cabbage moths came close to killing it. I grow marigolds most years but they don't seem to repel much. The deer ate my potato and my tomato plants, the leaves & branches! This year I will be more firm with them! Thanks again for the video! I just watched some of your sweet potato videos and I'm sprouting one right now for slips.
You’re welcome, Matt. That must’ve hurt. 😢 Don’t give them a chance again this year. That net is PERFECT for prevention. Happy gardening, Matt!!! Thank you for sharing. ❤❤
so sucks....how those deer can stroll into the yard's buffet..I'm right across from the field and woods and after coming home to them just stepped up to my clematis and roses, having a party, I leaned into the Irish Spring tip. My neighbour has since just put the whole box out in her bushes with netting, hehe. Me, I cut mine into cute chunks, and drilled a hole for jute. I hung them in rose bushes and apple trees....And happy to report. No more issue with deer. Only original Irish Spring;0)
@sylviasandy I'm going through the exact problem with my collards right now and thankfully I have wild onions growing right by them and I'm going to use neem oil also.
Hi Sandy , very nice video about how to prevent bugs from eating my vegetables example like collard greens and broccoli. I enjoyed the w very much. Thank you.
Hello and nice tip of using marigolds to plant near collards, l am starting mustard greens indoors but will soon transplant out in backyard garden and yes majority of us have this problem with pests. Pests have recently destroyed my nursery collard greens but l see new growth coming (leaves)😊happy gardening and growing
You are a very very knowledgeable gardener. I thank you for sharing. I have had the same exact caterpillar. I have shade cloth that I will try. My plants are in a large container with plastic sides, so it should be easy.
I've been having this problem for the first time this year in Australia during a wet summer. Will try planting some marigolds and putting some spring onions around other plants.
Thank you for the tips. Yes I tried growing Collards for the first time in the fall and the eat my greens up. I'm going to try again, I have the netting and I have need oil. So fingers crossed 🤞 😊
It's about that time to start planting. I am in Zone 6b in MA. I keep hearing about marigold. I have limited space but i have to get 1 or 2 of those plants this spring. I have Kale and Bok Choy so they might need some help.
I have a question. Do you know why my collards are stickery? They have hairy-like stickers on the leaves. My first time growing them. Also, have you grown any perennial collards, like purple tree collard? I am enjoying them, so easy!
I'll have to see a picture of it to know the problem. Can you share a photo of it on our Facebook group? Here's our Facebook group link: facebook.com/groups/cultivateme/
Use beer pour beer in a old cookie pan and place it in your garden buried so it can be level with the dirt the yeast in the beer will draw all critters in it then throw it away ( get a cheap beer it works great
Hello Sulaina. Neem oil is used when the pests has already attacked your greens. Since you’re starting out, I would recommend planting those companion plants I mentioned and also use garden net to cover them. Prevention is better than cure. Thank you for watching. ❤️❤️
Yes ma'am my brassica babies are planted next to all my sulfur plants plus marigolds. Prevention is definitely key to a good harvest, and yes, they are a nuisance. Tfs 🐛

Those white butterflies = Cabbage worms.
Do not get rid of wasp nests around your property. They eat the larvae and worms.
I've had to deal with this pest, as well. I used netting to keep them off yet one somehow managed to get in. But one is better than one hundred. I also used neem oil and BT. Caterpillars attacked my blueberry bushes, sweet potato leaves, and tomato leaves.
