    In fact, as I remember, there weren't many Bruno Mars songs out therer at that time. If you googled him you only had the b.o.b song, an accoustic solo Bruno jam and a song called "Her World goes On" with that club influence that was very popular at that time.

    I think Wale still good in some circles, he's just not as big as he once was for sure. I think some of his lashing out definitely played a role in that. But what's funny is that he was kind of ahead of his time with that. I remember him talking about being depressed and all that and getting clowned. Now mental health is a much more prominent conversation in hip hop and everybody talks about being depressed. But I feel like whenever Wale drops, it's dope and it still gets some motion. His more recent joint with J. Cole gets play. I've heard a few other joints get some decent play over the past few years. I think he can definitely drop another poppin album. His last one was in 2021 and although I didn't listen to it much myself, it did chart. He's due for another one this year I think.

    The dude Ken was talking to was right. Fetty Wap had way more than 1 hit. Trap Queen, 679, My Way (especially the remix with Drake), Again, Time, Jugg...his debut was a hit parade. I was in high school that year and he RAN the entire school year, he was playing everywhere, every car, out of the speakers we brought in our backpacks. Always. We all knew every word to those songs. It was the closest experience I have to compare to how DEHH describes Doggystyle or Get Rich Or Die Tryin. That album was huge.

    • @bjenksful
      @bjenksful 9 месяцев назад

      Yeah, I was out in them streets when that album dropped and I remember it being huge. I never really listened to him (outside of hearing it everywhere I was), but I remember people loving Fetty. He had a big white following as well. Jon Conner just dropped and it was fire... possibly his best project yet (aside from his mixtapes run) it was a positive sounding album without being corny but the production was probably the low point save a handful of tracks (and even that wasn't that bad tbh just a little uninspired) put Conner with someone like real bad man, maybe harry fraud or obviously Al and he could do numbers

    The thing with Chance is his downfall really didn’t have that much to do with music. Yes TBD was a lackluster album but what really catapulted the hate campaign was his over saturation in media (this guy was everywhere in 2016-18), him trying to get an MTV reporter fired for writing a negative article, and his over the top religion switch.
    I didn’t care about any of this but the tide turned slowly against Chance and he went from beloved to being waited for him to drop a disappointing project. Boy did those people get what they want.
    If Chance dropped The Big Day in 2016 or early 17, I don’t think it would’ve been as hated or detrimental to his career.

    Wale overcame (fake) DJ Wackademics disrespect for him and the entire DMV for years. Wale overcame getting dropped from Interscope after his debut album. They wanted to promote Wale as a Pop act at first because they couldn’t fully understand him or DC/DMV culture. He lead the MMG team when they first started.
    He helped Meek to create more female friendly records. He was the first sneaker head in Hip Hop’s blog era. He WRITES ALL his raps. He’s speak to women better than any of em aswell imo. He’s never had the financial backing like The other three MC’s either.
    Politics of the game has been holding him back aswell. Wale never get’s nominated for any BET, BET Hip Hop or Grammys. Even though his last two albums were great, maybe his best work. The game is the game. He’s highly regarded amongst his peers and real music lovers aswell. He know’s how to make a radio smash aswell. 💯💯💯

I'm sure there were some other more pressing things that contributed to his fall off like just not releasing good music, but he had a moment. He had this one mixtape with the song "Still In This Bitch" with TI and 2 Chainz that was pretty big, but after that, I didn't hear much from him.

    Dunno about USA but here in Latin America it was huge, like most DY singles since he didn't released many albums in the last decade. It's not DY biggest song and even most people over here didn't know about the "Informer" jam.
