@DoRC thats funny! I told you several times that you're one of the best rc tubers out there and now you mention jang who had the best rc content period. I’m definitely getting one of these!! This is an awesome truck in my opinion for building up from stock, especially for the price. Awesome video as always!!! 🤘🏻
Great tip on the “once over” policy! I learned this the hard way when I got into large scale cars. A couple loose hexes or nuts can cause a shitload of damage. And on a plane or a boat you could REALLY be screwed!
Absolutely. It really applies to anything mechanical. I cannot tell you how many times I saw as a mechanic things that cost people thousands of dollars which would have been either a cheap or free fix if they had just been paying attention to it.
I have been learning about these red cat $300 trucks and they seem ti be a great platform..i like the blue truggy version..i think they are basically the same ,just different wheels and body...great tear down review.
Yes they are essentially the same vehicle underneath. These are definitely good trucks but like I said in the video they aren't precision bashers or anything like that. They're great for banging around but don't handle the best. Overall for the price I think they're really good though.
I got mine today. Already ran 3packs thru it. Front shocks seem to be a little heavy. Doesn’t really rebound back the way it should. Other than that I beat the hell out of mine out in *100+ temps. She held up really nicely. I should probably see which ones came on mine. Man U we’re getting crazy rotation with those bigger tires there. I need to post some videos.
I think it has less to do with the shocks and more to do with things binding. The suspension isn't super free and it tends to bind up if it gets a little dirt in it. It'll probably loosen up over time as things kind of wear in though.
About those shocks ,if your in a pinch or just dont want to buy new shocks ,you can rough up the shaft on the end and use urethane adhesive such as 3m 5200 its a marine adhesive, get the fast dry its got a red band but still takes 3 days I think to fully dry ,the standard 5200 takes a week , also window weld only 1-2 days or even construction polyurethane selant for roofs etc. You will likely never get the shock back apart without cutting it or soaking it in aceatone. You might even get away with shoo goo temporarily but not sure it will hold long term also must dry 24 hrs
I did try epoxying one of them on the wov racing truck and it didn't last very long. Even roughing it up there just isn't a lot of surface area and it's hard to find an epoxy that works well with both steel and nylon.
What a difference 6s makes. It reminds me of what I did to my Team corally skeeter. It was fun on 4s but put a 150a 6s esc in it and it's a totally different animal! But unlike the skeeter this truck seems pretty decent on 4s power. 6s might be a bit overkill but still looked like fun!
A slide rack for the steering is an unusual choice for any off-road vehicle, I remember when they used to be common on 1/10th onroad race cars and they were a pain as any stone jammed could and did sometimes ruin your race
Yeah I haven't had any problems with stones getting jammed in there but it definitely gets bound up with any kind of dirt and grit. I suspect over time as things wear in it'll probably get better but the only reason I can think they would have gone with this option to begin with is cost
Hey bro. I appreciate the effort you put into this. I saw your losi losernut review and that was so good and realistic. Such a great video, thank you! I think I'll just keep playing with my +$40 Rival MT10, and let Redcat sort out their poor suspension design choices for now.
The MT-10 definitely is a proven platform but I wouldn't necessarily say the two are in competition with each other. This is a fair amount bigger and is more like the Traxxas Max or Arrma Kraton outcast 4s
Out of the box Yeah it probably would be but the DOA ESC is not a problem with the car so not really something I'm worried about. I've had dozens of hobbywing ESCs over the years and I think this is maybe the second one I've had that was DOA. It's just not that common of a thing.
@HolyCannolis I'm not sure. To be fair just plugging it in and turning it on would not have shown the problem. It only happened as soon as you tried to accelerate with the motor connected. So they might have done a power on test.
10:13 That shock shaft just not going to last. I don't understand why just not replace them with threaded ones before shipping the RC. Cos after those breaks it will be a warranty issue with a part replacement.
@@brsrc759 in my experience at least there's no good way to do that. Maybe if you were bashing and gravel but the type of sand I bashing gets pretty much everywhere no matter what you do.

I think it depends on what your goals are. The 4S max is pretty decently powerful right out of the box. I think if you're used to insane power it might feel weak but especially for beginners I think it's got plenty of power without upgrading.
I was thinking about getting one, but the steering might be a deal breaker. Not the scrub but all the dirt getting in there and on the rack. And I don't see an upgrade for it.

Not quite. The bullets on the motor are 4 mm and they are 6.5 mm on the ESC. You will either need to change the bullets on the motor or get some adapters.

That’s what I liked about wov rigs , the diffs were robust could get power to ground without worrying. 50 mph is perfect with power in reserve , just control and handling need to be addressed
From what I understand they all should be but the manufacturer messed up. My guess is that they originally made the shocks the clip-on style like the Wov racing but changed it for the same reason it was changed on the wov cars. Sounds like they had a bunch of stock of the other ones and just either decided to use them or uses them on accident.
Can you make a video where you drive Awesome the whole way through the video? I wreck a lot with my RC cars like one out of every 10 jumps. I’ll do something crazy it’s not landing . I’m a little new to the channel. So at this point, I’m wondering like can this dude actually drive? You understand I’m sure this isn’t the first time you got this.👻👍🏼
It is far from the first time that I've been told I'm a bad driver. I'm not the best driver in the world but I have been bashing yearly every day for the last 20 years So when I want to land to jump I can. You're seeing a minute of about 30 minutes of bashing usually so you're kind of seeing what I want you to and usually I want people to see how these things handle crashes pretty much any modern RC can land jumps perfectly and survive It's what happens when they don't land perfectly that matters. Because of this I intentionally crash a lot. I do have a few videos I've done fairly recently where I only showed good landings just to prove to people that I can :-)
I would say it depends on your budget. The max is a better car but it's obviously far more expensive. A good middle ground could be the outcast 4s V 2.5.
I suppose if you had to call it anything faulty design would be the correct term. The steering rack tends to get bound up with junk which causes it to not be super precise and the distance between the actual steering pivot point and the center of the tires is pretty big which means that the tires are more revolving around the point rather than rotating around it. This causes some pretty weird steering geometry. Overall it's not that bad when you're just playing around though which is what this thing's mostly for. It is definitely not a precision instrument :-)
Those wav tires, I think that's the name. Anyways those tires look like they really suck. MayB better on the vehicle thay came on. But on the RC looked like thay don't work.
Yeah they're okay. Honestly it's not really the tires that are to blame. The truck just doesn't handle that well. It's cheap pretty durable and fun but definitely not a precise instrument.
Same thing happens in my machete steering rack little rocks and debris get up in there and locks up really do not like this style of steering on these cars
Yeah I'm not really sure why they have it. It doesn't really provide any advantage over the standard style other than maybe cost for them and it gets bound up pretty easily. It's not a huge deal and with a strong enough servo you can kind of power through it but it is an inferior design in my opinion
@@DoRC I think so too.i have a high torque/volt servo on my machete and it's powers through it most of the time👍a least they didn't put that set up on the vigilante
2:17 What a terrible design…🤦♂️ Plus how can the bearings turn ????? They are in contact on both opposite sides so……… The steering rack is just sliding on them without letting them rotating….. Plus the superior side of the steering rack is directly sliding against these 2 plastic bits….. What an overall terrible steering design 😑😑😑
I think the idea is that there is enough play between the bearings and the rack that they will either bear on one side or the other. Unfortunately when debris gets in there it kind of binds everything up. It still works but I don't think it's the best design.

Nice , I read that in comments I wasn’t sure if it were true . Makes sense they’re plenty strong for 10 8th size rigs
@@RcPlayer-tt2vw Yeah I think you'd be hard pressed to break a differential in one of these.
What’s the shock length ?
About 118 mm extended
Where can I find those tires and wheels with that offset?
They come stock on the wov racing monster truck
Can that body fit on a SCT?
I would say definitely maybe. I just tried it on an old TA SCT I have and it actually looks kind of cool.
I dont understand why only one shock is threaded 🤔
From what I understand they all should be but the manufacturer messed up. My guess is that they originally made the shocks the clip-on style like the Wov racing but changed it for the same reason it was changed on the wov cars. Sounds like they had a bunch of stock of the other ones and just either decided to use them or uses them on accident.
@@DoRCI think it's poor QC....But great video!!
@@andyb9994 Yeah that's pretty much what it boils down to. Somebody didn't do their job at the factory
I like this truck but that steering setup looks like it'll just be problems.
It's not too bad. It gets kind of crunchy but still keeps working.
What are those tires called?
I don't think they have a specific name they are the stock tires off of the Wov racing blitzkrieg.
@@DoRC cool, thanks!
I do have a few videos I've done fairly recently where I only showed good landings just to prove to people that I can :-)
Valkerie vs Maxx?
I would say it depends on your budget. The max is a better car but it's obviously far more expensive. A good middle ground could be the outcast 4s V 2.5.
Your the best thank bro 🎉
Glad you enjoyed thanks for watching!
This clipped on shock design looks so bad, it could even be an intended breaking point. But hey, they are at least aware of the problem😂
I find it unlikely they did it on purpose. That would just be setting themselves up for a bad reputation and a lot of warranty claims
If my boss didn't cut my hours I'd definitely buy this, great video
Well hopefully you can soon!
Steering on this is some of worst I've ever seen. Is it just a bad steering setup or faulty design?
I suppose if you had to call it anything faulty design would be the correct term. The steering rack tends to get bound up with junk which causes it to not be super precise and the distance between the actual steering pivot point and the center of the tires is pretty big which means that the tires are more revolving around the point rather than rotating around it. This causes some pretty weird steering geometry.
Overall it's not that bad when you're just playing around though which is what this thing's mostly for. It is definitely not a precision instrument :-)
he said "rack".
:)
@cannibal666 Yeah the stock servo just doesn't quite have the jam for it but the one I put in there in this video seems to handle it pretty well.
@@DoRC cool I'll do the same when I pick mine up 👍
800 + Dollar vehicle you got to upgrade, maybe I'll pass
800 of what kind of dollars? This is a $300 US vehicle
He thinking it’s the 5th scale guy 😂 never be a perfect RC but can be close . For 300 with HW electronics in this market it’s dam near perfect
Yea I'm thinking it's the one with the blue and white body, never had a red cat
2:17 What a terrible design…🤦♂️
Plus how can the bearings turn ????? They are in contact on both opposite sides so……… The steering rack is just sliding on them without letting them rotating…..
Plus the superior side of the steering rack is directly sliding against these 2 plastic bits….. What an overall terrible steering design 😑😑😑
I think the idea is that there is enough play between the bearings and the rack that they will either bear on one side or the other. Unfortunately when debris gets in there it kind of binds everything up. It still works but I don't think it's the best design.
@@DoRC Thank you A LOT for your great work, you’re the best American channel that I know, your testing protocol is very constant and professional (checking everything before testing the cars, disassembling the main parts to see how it’s made etc.)
Plus always interesting upgrade videos too, following the review videos, this is perfect…👍
I’m very grateful.

Surprised your endorsing redcat with the situation in Ukraine
What do you mean?
looks like all black out copy of vow racing tyrants buggy and reucks
Yeah they're definitely made by the same OEM.
