- Hello Darlings! Today I want to share with you my favourite pattern tutorial yet: how to draft a basic skirt block pattern. Using this technique, you will create a flawlessly fitting skirt pattern based on YOUR measurements, and you will be able to later use this as a base for more design variations.
In this video:
1:49 Tools you will need for pattern drafting
2:34 How to take accurate measurements
4:44 Pattern drafting tutorial
Step-by-step photo instructions on my blog: www.sewingjulie.com/
I hope you will enjoy this tutorial. If you try it out - I would love to see your results, so please feel free to send me some photos via Instagram DM: / sewingjulieblog

thaks
amazing!
This is a great thing to learn...however, I was wondering when you cut it out if you need to add seam allowances? Would love a tutorial on the finished skirt for this block.
Woooow i love it ❤❤❤❤ please make more videos about pattern making ❤❤
Glad to hear you liked this video! 🤗
Thank you , so much for this video this is something that I need to learn how to do because I buy a lots of commerical pattern and a lot of time they do not fit well.
Very glad to hear you enjoyed the video, Darlene!
Thanks
Allah bless you
Thanks for the video. If you also have bodice pattern, can you join them directly and form a dress. Or will you need adjustments on the waist?
Great question, Gabriel! You can join them, just have to make sure that distances betweet darts at the waistline are same on both bodice and skirt parts!
Thanks for the reply. My concern was that pencil skirt patterns curve down to centre front and CB. Whereas bodice blocks aren't, in particular the back pattern.
Thanks.
May you please do a basic dress block with explanations on why you do particular measurements and how you calculate them?
How would you draft the darts if front darts need to be bigger for bodice and smaller for skirt, then back darts need to be the opposite?
How would you, also, draft the centre front of the skirt on a full dress block?
Thank you Julie. What happens at the sides if your high hip is larger than your lower hip
Hello Marie! That's a good question. To answer correctly - could you let me know if the waist is smaller or larger than high and lower hips?
Thank you Julie my measurements are approximately waist 98 cm, high hip with full tummy : 115 , low hip 115. I find it hard to measure myself. One of my sewing goal for this year is to learn to draft my own basic block. Do you recommend any method ? I have Several methods : Natalie Bray, Armstrong, Aldrich, and others but I’m scared to take the plunge!
Zit er géén band op de rok? En heb je een foto van een rok die af is :) Het patroon ziet er makkelijk uit. :)
Great tutorial - but what about wearing ease?
Pls also show how you sew a skirt using ur basic skirt block. Thank u
Hi Dear! This video is in the plans :)
Great video! Would love to see a skirt on you that was made from the pattern :) It can be difficult to imagine it in 3D for someone who is just starting to sew.
Thank you for a comment, glad to hear you like this video! Yes, I agree, it would have been better to add a finished skirt photo for visualisation as well - unfortunately, all skirts I currently have are highly modified versions of this basic skirt 🙂
Video starts at 3:20 btw
Basic BODICE BLOCK please
