Learn the Easy Way of Drafting Basic Skirt Pattern

- This basic skirt features a proportionate hip that creates a smooth flattering curve from the side seam to the hip, that would be slightly more pronounced when the darts are closed.
Never fear, skirt is the easiest thing to start patternmaking with.
To start with, you need three body measurements:
Skirt Length ÷ 4 + 1/2"
Waist ÷ 4 + 1"
Hip Measurement ÷ 4 + 1"

How about the measurement of the bottom width
Hi! There is no need to measure the bottom width. If you want to make it straight, you just bring down the hip measurement and if you want to make it pencil cut, just reduce what you brought down to 1" to 2". I hope, it helps. Thank you for watching!

What mean point E (7"hip dept)? My hip measurements 38inch÷4+1=10.5
Hi! 7" hip depth is standard measurement of the second hip. E to F to the right is hips ÷ 4 + 1". Thanks!
How many inches does a slit have?
Hi! If the skirt length is knee length or slightly above the knee, slit size is 7". If the skirt length is mid leg, 3" to 4". If it is below the knee 8" to 9". It depends on the length. Thank you!

Hello Mam! Yes Mam I don't have ease allowance for the small & medium sizes but when I make a bigger size, I usually add 1" ease allowance on the hip part. Thank you!

Hi! It's ok with me answering your queries, I'm very much willing to help....You could add 1" on the hips but on the waistline, if you add 1", it might become loose, since you are making 1/4 pattern. You could use this: waist measurement ÷ 4 plus 1". I hope it helped! Thank you!

what is the difference between front bodice pattern and back bodice pattern?
Hi! They differ in some parts like neckline, armhole and bust. The front neckline & armhole are deeper than the back and there is additional measurement on the front bust. Thank you I hope it helped!
