I actually preferred the auto exposure, stabilisation and the 26mm focal length lens of the Pocket 1. I was shocked at how good it competed with the Pocket 3 in most other cases and I also think the smaller form factor is great, but that's a personal preference.
I prefer that more natural 26mm focal length for a more cinematic quality rather than action cam quality of the 2 & 3. If the Pocket 3 had a 26mm, or even a 24mm focal length equivalent lens, it would really shine for me.
The Pocket 2 & 3 is better in general I think for vlogging i.e....talking heads, so for anyone spending more time in front of a camera than behind it, then the 2 or 3 is likely the one to get, I think. Oh' it's Also Good for unboxing videos for quick focusing on products/items.
Good review of your thoughts on the Pocket 3 although I didn't agree with some things, but hey! That's fine, your video still gave a good comparison overall 🙂👍
You should definitely compare them in low-light conditions next time. I believe pocket3 will completely outperform pocket1.
The Pocket 1 does better in this video. The face tracking of the Pocket 3 constantly does micro adjustments that create a constant wobble - especially while you're running. The exposure and color is also better on the Pocket 1 in this video. The Pocket 3 is washed out and flat.
I’m thinking I might have to make this my 2023 birthday present for myself. The price IS an issue, but I like the Pocket 1 so much that this might just be a justifiable purchase. Useful real-world usage video - Thanks!

I'm more into the brighter colors of the pocket 3, it really makes skin tones pop, and with that wider field of view compared to the pocket 1. Major win for shooting portraits.
Pocket 1 is such a beast and was my work horse. Besides footage from my mavic mini 1, footage from my pocket 1 were my favorites. I recently updated my camera to a lumix S5 with 50mm f1.8 lens. I was planning to get a gimbal for it, then this pocket 3 came out, so I’m tempted to upgrade my P1. I just like capturing and making videos as a hobby and my style is run and gun. I rather have something pocket size than have to lug out a gimbal, decisions decisions. This video puts things in perspective, so I’m probably fine with my lumix and pocket 1. Good comparison.
I used the Pocket 1 in a lot of videos, among those more professional projects, and it fit in perfectly, so the Pocket 3 with it's quality, D-Log M, better tracking, all the bells and whistles is really worth it and I'm very happy with mine.
You can clearly see in your shots that the pocket 3's got a much better dynamic range, sky details are on point. That 1-inch sensor is really pulling its weight!

Thanks for this comparison. No one is comparing this to Pocket 2 side by side night walk test... yet. Maybe once the hype subsides some influencers will do it. For now, no one is allowed to, lol.

Thanks for the video ! No one has comparison between Pocket 1 & 3. I am considering picking a used Pocket 1 from ebay for a good deal! Could you also kindly make a video with Normal instead of D-Log mode ? Also low light / night video will also be helpful :)
It's worth it if you can find it cheap, I bought mine about 2 years ago for $100 boxed on Ebay, as my first one fell on the floor and broke, so I'm sure you can pick it up super cheap now.
What I see I don't like it, you should have done in normal mode without any editing as I don't see what colours are out of the box.
D-Log is for editing and picture on its own does not say anything before editing
There is ZERO editing, both were filmed in flat profiles. The flat picture actually tells us a lot before editing, and you can see the Pocket 3 has a much flatter profile, which gives us a lot more to work with. As for normal profiles, I'm sure there are a ton of people out there who have filmed in normal, I very rarely use normal.

Im no camera expert i have the pocket to and i have loved it on holidays with the kids over the last few years especially when put on a large 4k tv so i have just ordered the pocket 3 as i do love a gadget lol but if its crap im blaming you lol because thats just cost me £669 with the 2 year refresh for that price i could had bought 2a used pocket 1 and to and a dji air 2 combo on the second hand market lol. Interesting video, indeed. I wish i could afford buying a Pocket 3, although I'm glad with my Pocket 2. How about editing raw videos with the Pocket 3? In your viewpoint, Is "D-Log M" better than "D-Cine Like"?
I do prefer D-Log M, and am currently working on LUTs for it, but still dialling them in as it's a little different from my drone LUTs, the scene is constantly changing so they sometimes go into overdrive.

Pocket 3 ma lepszy kolor, ale ostrość to to samo co Action 4... tak na 100% zoom jest marginalnie ok, ale widać że nie ma tej rozdzielczości co Pocket 2 np... Tu DJI trochę rozczarowuje w nowych kamerach... Drony są ok... A3 A4 Pocket 3 maja chyba mocne filtry Ant-Alias, których wydaje mi się że Pocket 2 nie ma, albo bardzo słaby. W A3 i A4 jeszcze problem z kalibrcją fokusa obiektywów jest znany. Mam pocketa 2 ... nie wiem czy kupię trójkę... jeszcze poczekam. Jedyne co mnie teraz przekonuje nieco do P3 to mniejsza skłonność do przepałów. Jest też lekkie HDR, mniej niż w A4, ale to jest pozytywne zjawisko.
Jak dla mnie fantastyczna kamerka, Pocket 2 nigdy nie mialem, nie widzialem sensu bo kupowac jak mialem Pocket 1, Action 3 i Action 4 mam kilka i zaden nie mial problem z ostroscia, ale slyszalem ze niektorzy maja. Nie trawie hdr, wiec jak dla mnie super ze DJI rozpietosc w swoj D-Log poprawili niz pojscie w strone hdr, bardziej pasuje do takiego aparatu jak jest Pocket. Pozdrawiam z Lodzi.

pocket 1 has stopped being updated, so the problems from when it was first released until now will never be fixed
I never really had many problems with it, it held its own as a tiny cinema camera.
Ok, pocket 3 has better tracking, but pocket 1 has better colors and exposure.
I’m sure it’s something DJI will be working on as I’ve heard that a few times now

Hey Philip, I follow you for a little bit now, your amazing videos showing the Mini 2 actually got me into drones few years ago 🤪
But here I will have to disagree on one thing:
- 6:14 The Osmo Pocket 1 can in fact do vertical video, but you have to hold it side ways, over something like 45° it switches to vertical video and works prettx well in this aspect too.
I think it was advertised also at the time.
The advantage was that it was a full sensor read out then, so technically it had 4K uncropped vertical video :P
Is the Pocket 3 capable of doing this ? I don't see anyone trying to hold it sideways 🤔
- Secondly, it looks like your Pocket 1 is in FPV mode, it really doesn't keep the horizon oO

@PhillipSkraba no wlasnie, szkoda, ze choc troche nad tym nie popracowali. W taka pogode gdzie czasem moze lekko pokropic to trzeba uwazac, bo jest z "cukru".

analysis from this video
1. the pocket 3 is dynamic range is better in the highlights, as the sky looks less overexposed
2. the pocket 3 face tracking is better
3. the pocket 1 stabilization is better than the pocket 3, when he was running. watch 1:18
4. the Pocket 1 skin tone is much nicer
5. the pocket 1 auto exposure is better as it quickly prevents over exposure. watch 6:42
overall i would go for pocket 3 because i care very much about low light and dynamic range. the stabilization is not much difference, i notice even pocket 1 stabilization is also better than pocket 2. it seems the sensor and lens is becoming too heavy for the gimbal. also skin tone and general colors can be adjusted as this is flat profiles. nice video keep it up!
I did notice the running part, it's possible that the wider field of view has a bit to play there. As for auto exposure, I'm guessing that the Pocket 3 analyses the face tracking and exposes for that, whereas the Pocket 1 no doubt exposes for the frame, hence the difference in auto exposures there. That's my guess.
Like I commented below the other video, there is something wrong with the color. With the DJI Pocket 3. You can see it if you compare the skin tones. The skin tones from the Pocket 1 seem to be on point.

Honestly I was thinking the same.. ... the pocket 3 definitely didn't blow the 1 out of the water. I mean if 9:16 is important then Sure, tracking way better on the 3. otherwise this wasn't enough to really make me change. Although the lowlight is way stronger.
Well put - the Pocket 3 clearly is better but not super 'blow you out of the water' better to justify the upgrade...heck, I have a Pocket 2 and it's pretty much only a step back - the only thing that is better on the Pocket 3 really is the 1inch bigger sensor!@@hellspike9
Its soo sad, the dynamic range of the Pocket 3 looks really like crap in every review, it would be nice if you can upload a clean HLG 10bit without editing, direct out of cam this way youtube can recognize the metadata and play it as HDR!
There was no editing here. I think what happens here is that is it auto exposes for our faces in face detect. Generally the dynamic range is really good, and I'm mainly filming in D-Log M, plus that overcast sky we have here for the next 6 months, ehh.
It would have been really nice if the Pocket 3 had Local Tone Mapping applied, like it is on the Hero 10/11/12, and also on the Action 4 i think. @@PhillipSkraba
@@AirKhanFPV to be honest, I'm not really a fan of the enhancements. It's more of a film camera than an action camera, so it's nice there is no hdr, no crazy over the top tone mapping, it's just clean, that's it. At this level of camera, I think that's best left out.
@@PhillipSkraba This is usually when uploading D LOG images, if you do not add a LUT file will form a big misleading, non-professional viewers will think that the color is too flat, so when there is no suitable LUT file, it is better to upload some auto-mode video

Excellent video. While I do love the larger screen on the Pocket 3 I just can’t justify that price when I’ve still got such a capable Pocket 1. Your video has convinced me that my OG Pocket 1 still deserves a place in my camera bag and shouldn’t be replaced just yet. 👍
Almost forgot - the Pocket 1 does have a portrait mode for Reels and Shorts…just turn it sideways and BANG your recording vertically. Even the face tracking still works!
The Pocket 1 is excellent, and I've used it so many times over the years in so many cool ways, love that thing, but the Pocket 3 takes it to another level.
This comparison is quite useless though isn’t it? D-Cinelike and D-log M are flat and one is even flatter. This comparison is only going to confuse people who don’t know better and would look at the washed out colors and not even realize it’s both in their log and ungraded
Absolutely, I should have written they were both in flat profiles in the video, what an idiot I am.
Like I commented below the other video, there is something wrong with the color. With the DJI Pocket 3. You can see it if you compare the skin tones. The skin tones from the Pocket 1 seem to be on point.
I still think it’s the Pocket 3 exposing for face, whereas the other cameras don’t do that. It makes me look a little pregnant, all glowing 😂

Been following comments on this for a few days. I also think the pocket 3 looks too over exposed.
Ive been using the Dji Mic with my Pocket 1 via the Dji usb-c to 3.5mm adapter.
Was tempted to upgrade, but with this video comparison, Ill stick to the 1.
With Dji now having 3 uncompatable wireless mics, theres a good chance the Pocket 4 will energe next year and fix everything.
