    Hello all new viewers of our channel. I apologize for the audio quality of these fist few videos. Our audio mixing was a bit barbaric for the first few episodes so if you like the vibe of these videos but the sound is driving you nuts, please follow this link ruclips.net/video/wxbVhVbJWQo/видео.html and skip to EP.7. You will pick us up right as we depart the US south and the audio is much better and continues to get better the more we edited. Cheers, Jon

    WOW, I'm in the middle of this episode and I just had to comment. That shot of that beautiful blue green wave towering almost to the height of the distant tree covered ridge line was just stunning, that Prism then crested to show the lighthouse on the shore by stages was a stark illumination of the power of the sea... and yet was close inshore; relative safety. Mind boggling.

    This episode is jamm packed with adventure, thank you. From the east side of golden gate to the waters of San Simeon. The anxious moments for a previously bumpy sail were squashed by the calming heavy displacement and girth of Prism. Such a worthy vessel. The height of the waves, crest to trough were clearly evident with the lighthouse behind! Big waves, yet Prism plows thru...
    To look back 5 or so years like this is such a treat. Your journeys on prism are fantastic and have proven you excellent sailors. it was wonderful to hear from Prism recently. Also, can’t get enough of B.T.L. 👍✌️

    Great video guys. Good quality.
    I give you guys a hand. Getting the smallest boat you can get away with, instead of the largest oversized, over filled, useless gadget decked, pricey boat possible. And its a beautiful boat.
    I look forward to hearing more about your travels.

    I just found your blog and am enjoying watching your videos. It is nice to see young people living their dreams. I am at the end of my time, not dead yet, but not starting anything new and it is nice to see you doing something you want to do and experience. I will look forward to seeing more. Your videos are very nice, but like another person said, when you are talking it would be nice to cut the music down some.

    An excellent yet simple flopper stopper can be made from a triangle of half inch plywood, about 24 inches on a side, with about 5 lbs of lead on one of the corners. Drill a hole on each point to fasten three lines that tie together about 3 feet up and fasten your halyard to that. Swing out the boom with a preventer and the flopper stopper off the end of the boom. Very simple and strong too.

    Nice video, just ran across your Chanel, I'm use to power boats and know very little about sail boats but have always wanted to be on one to try. It's great you guys are getting to live your dream!! A couple of observations from someone trying to learn more while watching,,, when you were talking about using the other sail and was trying to decide on the name of it, you didn't show the sail at all, so someone like myself has no idea what your talking about.. It's the little things like maybe sometimes mentioning what the water depth is where your anchoring or passing thru... Overall good, wishing you two the best!!! Walt

    Hey, S/V Spellbound out of Moss Landing here. Great videos...very well done! I'm wondering if you can elaborate on the anchoring politics you encountered in Capitola. We anchor there for entire three day weekends at a time at least 4-6 times a year and have never had an issue. Were you anchored in the mooring field in the off season? Just curious as I'm hoping there's not some recent "California BS" occurring. Ironically most local sailors find Stillwater to be the place where they feel "unwanted". Anyhow, love your videos so far and my wife and I will be watching them all. If you'd like to click on us we have a pretty extensive list of videos for sailing Monterey Bay and occasionally head up to Half Moon and SFB. Probably be doing an extended Monterey Bay to Drakes Bay and out to the Farallons trip here in the not to distant future.

    • @SailingVesselPrism
      @SailingVesselPrism  9 лет назад

      +Canute36 Hey there Spellbound. Our experience happened September of 2014, so things may have changed since then. We attempted to anchor where we had anchored the previous year about 50 yards northwest of the pier, far outside the mooring field. After our cop incident where he said we could anchor there but had not given a solid explanation other than they have had boats in the past drag and run into the pier. I assured him we backed down towards the pier and we had plenty and I mean plenty of room to be safe from the pier. He wanted us to anchor South of the mooring field but as you probably know that in kelp hell and you are practically in the surf there. We then delegated to be "allowed" to be anchored 50 yards outside the mooring field in about 50 feet of water. Luckily we have 300' of chain on Prism and could do this safely, we know other boats with far less rode that would have struggled. The whole experience from the locals on the pier alone where just rude. We love Capitola, but the people that run the pier where unprofessional, broadcasting threats over a megaphone in place of just hailing us on 16 and talking like rational humans. Even after we where waved our handheld at them with multiple hails, they refused via megaphone not to respond via radio even though we heard chatter from them later that day about boat rentals. The cop was cool but at the end it seemed like he was just backing up the people on the pier because they where buds. This has been our only negative experience so far cruising. I will check out the videos. Cheers, Jon

    • @Canute36
      @Canute36 9 лет назад

      +Sailing Vessel Prism We usually anchor just outside the kelp forest directly out from the beach in about 25-30' of water.. We prefer it there as it's quite and there is a resident pod of bottlenose dolphins that patrols the edge of the forest multiple times per day that we enjoy spending time with. So are you guys in Mexico now then? Just wondering as we have some friends on S/V Summer and some acquaintances on S/V Orion both currently cruising the Sea of Cortez. (I'm not 100% sure but I think they may have mentioned you.)

    The flopper stopper? The audio is really hard to hear during that segment. I get the flopper stopper is valve but what is the purpose of this valve? I don't know if you folks could afford to buy a better mic or a lavalier but maybe just keep your head aimed toward mic while talking? That would help a lot.

    • @Josef_R
      @Josef_R 8 лет назад

      +Greg S The flopper stopper is a valve that lets water through slowly, dampening the boats side to side rolling motion. The valve lets it fall through the water as the boat rolls to that side, then when it rolls to the other side, the valve closes, making the boat take the roll the other way slower.

    Tip to avoid sea sickness drug free - drive . With car sickness the guy driving never gets car sick . So before you get sick when conditions are risky for it take the helm - never seen it not work as long as you get on early - like drugs it's too late if you are already too sick .

    Just thought, most of us who prefer sailing over power, enjoy the quiet sounds of wind and water. The music is not adding any "energy" to the video but is distracting from the experience of sailing, also, it seems a tiny bit too loud when you are speaking; hard to hear what you are saying at times.

      I don't think the music is boring. You played some of my fav songs. The problem is that you think of yourself as so boring that you need the music. Your interesting! People are not subbing because of the music. People are not patroning because of music. I like your answer. It seems that it is a growing trend for these patron sites to play music.
