Motion controls is the best way to play Splatoon in my opinion. The most avid and high rank splatoon players use motion but it does take some getting used to.

The game is a third-person shooter, controls like every other third-person shooter. If you're not used to motion aim, you're going to perform far worse with it no matter what.

Using and getting good at motion controls gives you the precision of playing with a mouse that's why it's the preferred method by Splatoon veterans. And because this game could be a first shooter for many children that have to learn a new/first control scheme I don't think it's the worst Idea.

ME1 is also my favourite among the 3 for all the reasons.
Just finished RDR2 story and starting RDR1. Good time. RDR2 gave me a fair bit to think about, which is nice.

I actually prefer motion for splatoon. I do still use joystick for more precision but the motion kinda make it feel like a mouse in a way

A few people have made the mouse comparison, but idk. Having a physical plane to move the mouse on feels way more in-control and accurate than just waving the controller around and hoping it stays in sync with where I expect.
It’s also not at all natural for me to hold a controller based on where I want to aim, so it’s objectively way more strenuous to even just casually play when I’m always moving it vs resting. With a mouse, my arm is always resting

found a big issue in that BBKDRAGOON video titled "Why Older Games Get Replayability Right" i'm leaving a comment here because my comment would get drowned out in a sea of thousands of other comments on his channel. but one sentiment I kept hearing is that "gamers like us are being left behind" & "i'd hate to see them stop making gameplay focused games" & all I could think to myself was, this is only an issue IF you ONLY play AAA "movie game" slop... ie: Naughty Dog style games.
where in TLOU2 cutscenes & exposition clearly overtake gameplay in focus & importance which is different from TLOU1 Factions & Uncharted 2, 3 & 4 multiplayer, Jak, Crash etc. TLOU1 while cinematic, was clearly a gam-ey game. especially with its factions multiplayer. TLOU2 was a Netflix show occasionally interrupted by gameplay. its the difference between the Amy Hennig/Bruce Straley era of NaughtyDog vs the Neil Druckmann era of Naughty Dog. Neil Druckmann is like Kojima in that he wants to direct movies so badly but doesn't have respect in that industry, so he just turns his games into movies that barely have gameplay in them, which tends to make for worse videogames... see any Kojima game after MGS4. when let off the reigns, his games turn into movies, with convoluted plots & not much gameplay. like Death Stranding.
I say all this to say, there are A LOT of gameplay focused games. you guys were lamenting the difference between classic God of War's more combo based Devil May Cry-like combat, vs the new over the shoulder combat of God of War 2018. there are a lot of games like the kind you want, but they're not all AAA. there are a lot of AA games that fill that niche. Nier Automata, Stellar Blade, Sekiro, Devil May Cry 5, Bayonetta 3, Metal Gear Rising (!) even the newer Final Fantasy games like FF7 Remake/Rebirth & FF16 have some good old school hack & slash action.
if all I played was 3rd person Sony first party style games, I'd be bored with modern gaming too lol smh... I play a lot of FPS, fighting games & platformers you can speedrun. stuff like Apex Legends (one of the most competitive multiplayer games out there) Fortnite, Titanfall 1 & 2 (2 of the best FPS ever made) Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Mortal Kombat 1, Power Stone 1 & 2 & a bunch of retro games like Mega Man, platformers like Sonic etc.
all the games I play have "skill floors & ceilings" if it doesn't have that, then I probably don't play it. I hate games that take control away from the player for too long to tell some pretentious story that the dev thinks is so deep. if its multiplayer I like it competitive & if its single player, I like it to be a game where I can show how skilled I am by how quick & efficient I can speedrun the game.
AA & indie games cover all the game genres that you guys were lamenting don't get made anymore. if you only look at AAA you WILL get bored with modern gaming but there is PLENTY to play. between AA, indies & mods, you will NEVER run out of fresh experiences to play.
