- Zippy's is a Hawaiian diner serving up lots of island classics as well as other diner food. Zippy's was exclusive to the state of Hawaii until now as the first expansion restaurant outside of the islands finds its way in fabulous Las Vegas Nevada! This restaurant has been incredibly busy when I've driven by but I finally got the chance to try it and I hope you enjoy watching my experience trying Zippy's for the first time!

Sorry, anyone who mentions L&L in Hawaii is NOT from Hawaii, L&L has always been a joke, you want real Hawaiian food-Go Helenas in Kalihi, but local mixed food, anywhere in Hawaii but L&L.. pretty much anywhere that has " Drive-In" is solid local food.

@@Mickcotton Im born and raised in Hawaii, and nobody eats at L&Ls , its Chinese owned and nothing in L&L is Hawaiian, the fact you think because cops eat there makes it Local tells me you probably never seen Hawaii other than google. Fun Fact: Hawaiis cops hasn't been local in over 20yrs because of corruption, so the validation you were seeking is a bad as your food taste.

I am Mexican and mom always cooked Mexican food. One item she included in the menu was SPAM. She would slice it and fry it in its own fat and then add Salsa Del Pato and cook for a few minutes and served it with corn tortillas. It's tasty. Give it a try.😊😊

Hopefully, they'll add the loco moco to the menu later. That's our favorite. We've been to the one in Hawaii and couple of times and each time the loco moco was the winner. it was recommended by a local from the rent-a-car place.

The teri-beef was great. The fried chicken was my favorite. I'm looking to go back when they have their full menu available. I was hoping to try more island classics like loco-moco and kalua pork. Every time I've been to Hawaii, I never made it to Zippy's. My brother used to live there and liked it a lot. Might have a chance to try it in Vegas now unless I can make it back to Hawaii before then! Great review as always!

That fried chicken and the garlic bread looked really delicious. I agree, a good quality beef hot dog has to have a good spring and chew to it. We used to eat Spam sometimes as a kid. My.mom would grill the Spam and then cook it in a sweet and sour sauce with pineapple. It was quite tasty. I keep some cans of Spam on hand as they have a long shelf life and come in handy for emergencies. Thanks for the review.
The fried chicken was absolutely the best thing I ate at Zippy's. Spam has a bad rep for those who haven't had it but I love the stuff! And it's such a perfect emergency food to have cans on hand for sure! Thanks for watching!

I was happy to try it out! There was so much buzz about this restaurant and the few times I went by before making this video the line was absolutely insane. I'd try to visit during slightly off hours like in the middle of the afternoon. I only waited about 10 minutes for a table but I hear it's still an hour or more of a wait during standard dining hours. Hope you enjoy! Thanks for watching!

LOLL But if I was visiting during this time, I'd be disappointed b/c I'm similar to what you coined, "Every restaurant's a buffet if you're willing to pay." It's smart for their business long term for sure. Bad reviews up front will be remembered, but no one will remember a phased rollout in the long run. I did like what I ate though so I'm looking forward to trying them again when the menu is expanded. Thanks for watching GL!

It's interesting to see this review of Zippyʻs in Las Vegas by someone who's never eaten at one of the 22 Zippyʻs in Hawaiʻi compared to Locals from Hawai'i or frequent visitors to Honolulu who have often eaten at Zippy's. I grew up eating all of these dishes at Zippy's in Hawai'i (the Korean fried chicken is my favorite), so it's kind of funny to see someone experiencing and commenting on them for the first time. I think a lot of the food will appeal to Asian tastes because of their roots in the immigrant population in Hawai'i. I know old-time fans of Zippy's can't wait for the full menu (and daily specials) to come out so you can choose from the large variety of other dishes. BTW, for dessert, you should try the Apple Napples (best when heated in the microwave) and the malasadas. Also many other delicious cakes from Zippy's Napoleon's Bakery -Hope they serve the haupia (coconut) cake. And in case you didn't know, when Barack Obama comes back to Hawai'i and heads for Zippy's, he always gets the Zip Pac!

@@VegaswithShin If you're a foodie Korean from Las Vegas, you definitely should visit Hawai'i to try out the local kine grindz (good eats). I'm sure there will be a lot of things you'll like and probably many things that are familiar to you. Actually, as other Hawai'i locals have commented, Zippy's doesn't have the GEST plate-lunch type of food, but it's better than the usual fast food and like comfort food to most of us. In the past couple of years, people have complained Zippy's is much more expensive now (like everything) and they stopped giving discounts to seniors, There are also many other places where you can get really good "Local food" of all kinds these days. Lots of videos on RUclips.
As for Zippy's, check out this video with Amanda & Felix Eats (See more of their videos before you visit Hawai'i) with a Filipino foodie RUclipsr Jaycation from San Diego and Las Vegas on his first visit to Zippy's. I think you can relate to his reactions and learn a lot from Amanda & Felix. You might even contact them for a collaboration when you do visit Hawai'i!

@@VegaswithShin You definitely should visit Hawai'i if you're an Asian foodie RUclipsr from Las Vegas. I think you'll find lots of connections and things you can relate to. Actually, as other people from Hawai'i have commented, Zippy's does not have the BEST local food in Hawai'i, but it is an old establishment that most people grew up with and the food they serve is like familiar comfort food and conveniently located all over the island of O'ahu. That's why I can see Hawai'i people happy to see Zippy's in Las Vegas. Hawai'i people also complain it has become much more expensive with smaller quantities (like everywhere), and during the pandemic, they stopped discounts for seniors and specials. However, they are still pretty popular and their frozen food is available for shipment or for sale in other places like California and Las Vegas. Nowadays there are many other very good restaurants, food trucks, and food fair vendors that sell delicious and often reasonably-priced "plate lunch" type of local food (check out the many videos on RUclips), and I'm sure you'd have a good time filming some food tours. You might think about doing a comparison of oxtail soup around the island.
For more advice on where to eat, there are many Hawai'i food vloggers, and I recommend Amanda & Felix Eats if you haven't seen their videos yet. I think you might like their visit to Zippy's during the pandemic (the second part of this video) with a Filipino foodie RUclipsrJaycation from San Diego and Las Vegas who was trying Zippy's for the first time. I think you'll relate to his reactions and learn some things from Amanda & Felix. Enjoy!

Hi Shin, Can I introduce you to the proper way to eat Oxtail soup? -- ok thanks. So aside from sipping the broth, you use the big spoon to first scoop some rice, then add a bit of broth, then break off a piece of meat and dip it in what they should have gave a dipping sauce like shoyu or ponzu in which you mix that to the ginger to dip your meat in & add it to your big spoon for an ultimate bite !!! enjoy.

Thanks for the review Shin I like Hawaiian food but it's not a big thing for me, but anyway have you ever thought about making T-shirts to promote your channel and what not, You could write on one of them "Every restaurant is a buffet if you're willing to pay" and you could put all your channel info on the shirt with a image of you standing to the side with a big smile on your face.😊😊😊
Another Idea for a shirt would be to write "Nice guys finish first" and then putting all your channel info on that shirt as well they would sell like hot cakes.😉😉😉 Now a quick question for you off the record how is the inflation situation in Las Vegas is it bad... I've been thinking about doing a merch line. I've got a pretty busy year so if I do it likely wouldn't happen until next year. I feel like inflation is about the same as everywhere else I guess. My parents live in California so I go back to see them once every month or two and prices all seem to be rising relatively at the same rate. Thanks for watching!

Shin - looks great for quick service food - have loved Hawaiian food ages living near Torrance & Gardena. Did you see any Kalua Pork dish? Maybe later to introduce.
No kalua pork on the menu from what I saw. I imagine it will come at a later phase but I don't know the Zippy menu in Hawaii so I'm just guessing. I am looking to try more when the full menu is implemented. Hopefully it's all good! Thanks for watching!
How long was the wait to be seated there. On the Zip pack what did you like more, beef or chicken??
I got there around 3:30pm and I waited 10-15 minutes probably. The fried chicken is easily the best part of the Zip Pack followed by the teri-beef. Thanks for watching!

Not ham in the Portugese Bean Soup but Portugese Sausage, local Hawaiian slightly sweet/spicy sausage, maybe closer related to longanisa? Some brands available for shipping to U.S. mainland include...Gouvea's Sausage & Kukui brand Sausage...

There is a type of Chinese restaurants that you don't find in Vegas (yet) - Chinese restaurants owned by Chinese from Korea. Their signature house dish = dry braised bone-in chicken 幹烹雞 (the TRUE kfc in my foodie book).
Is that a different style of cuisine than what they serve at Yuxiang on Rainbow blvd? I'm not familiar with the chicken dish.
@@VegaswithShin Just checked Yuxiang yelp page,... looks similar to their chili garlic chicken but bone-in and less wet. Next time you go, show them the Chinese name of the dish, "乾烹雞". It's amazingly good (boneless is just not the same.)

I'll add it to the list! Though the list is very long now and I wouldn't get to it until 2027 at this point. I've been tossing around the idea of doing a 2nd video a week that focuses more on local eats and keep my Saturday videos for more touristy locations like on the strip and downtown but I have to figure out how to manage the time necessary. Fluffy (Gabriel Iglesias) calls it his favorite restaurant in Vegas... it's not for the faint of heart! (pretty much... heart attack imminent)
Prices look reasonable FOR LAS VEGAS not middle America but thats win if your visiting Las Vegas. Obviously if you go there for the Spaghetti with rich meat sauce you need your head checked. I am sure that rich meat sauce for the Spaghetti is amazing but you can get that at Olive Garden. You go here to experience Hawaii and the culture and cuisine. I have been to one in Hawaii on a visit and it was AMAZING. Do not get scared on some of the dishes they offer like Oxtail Soup, a lot of people have never tried it, but they make it so %^&m good you have to try it.
The Hawaiian dishes were definitely the stars here. Picky eaters have some more run of the mill options but I really enjoyed the island classics. Really love the vibe at Zippys as well. Thanks for watching!

I have Spaghetti Western on the list though the list is getting really long now and suggestions are starting to go into the 2027 spreadsheet. I'm considering trying to do a 2nd video a week that will be more focused on local eats and my Saturday videos remain more touristy and focused on the strip/downtown but the time investment would be insane for a hobby. Everything looked great except the spaghetti. It literally looked like the picture (like it was made out of plastic) but everything else looked tasty 🤤
The spaghetti wasn't awful but just feels like a waste going to Zippys to get it when you can get phenomenal spaghett ati many places in Vegas. Really liked the Zip Pack meal. I love variety and it's so perfect for me. Thanks for watching!

$26 oxtail soup...no thank you. Price is ridiculous.
I only have 3 frames of reference for how much I think this should cost. First time I had oxtail soup was at the California Hotel in downtown for $28 and it was incredible. The 2nd time was in this video for $26 and it was pretty good. I know oxtails go for about $12/lbs at my local grocer but I'm not going to put in the 5 hours it takes to make the recipe. I also don't have to worry about the cost of doing business to make it myself. So somewhere in the middle there is a fair price I guess. Thanks for watching!

It was generally pretty good. I think the fried chicken was easily the best dish there. I actually love the vibe inside. But I'm looking forward to when they get more Hawaiian staples on the menu like kalua pork and Loco Mocos. Thanks for watching!

I enjoy your videos...But I feel your tag line "every place is a buffet if you can pay" is a bit elitest and pretentious...Just my opinion but who can afford to do that in this economy?
I appreciate the feedback. I understand the sentiment, but I do want to be clear: It's not if you CAN. It's if you're WILLING. I was very deliberate with my word choice. You watch my videos from Vegas so you see the large bills, but it's not about affordability. Have you ever gotten a combo at a fast food restaurant but added something that wasn't part of the combo? You were willing to go beyond the standard meal to taste something else or eat more of something. Maybe you haven't, but I certainly have and I'm taking that mentality to my videos. Some people will feel a certain type of way, but that can be said about every word anyone says. I do appreciate the concern, but enough folks seem to enjoy it as a catch phrase that I'll keep it going. I do appreciate the concern and feedback though. Thanks for watching!

You know exactly what you are saying and what you are doing...What was the total cost of this meal in your video? How about your last video? Be honest...These places are not fast food and you know it.
@@joep.7123 Oh I see you. You think my motivation is to flaunt wealth which is why you're so focused on the dollar amount as opposed to trying to see what I was doing with the analogy. When I go to McDonalds, I order a Big Mac combo, a McDouble, and a 6pc nuggets with BBQ and Sweet n Sour sauces because I like variety of flavors and I eat a lot. It's not to flex spending $15 on the guy behind me in the drive thru spending $7. Variety is the spice of life and viewers like seeing a lot of dishes in the videos. I came up with a rhyme that most viewers seem to enjoy that describes the type of video that they're about to watch. You think it's apples and oranges because of the cost but I'm not looking at the cost, I'm talking about the motivation for why I'm doing it. You think it's about showing off or being elitist. But it's not that sinister, it's really simple. It's just the mentality of wanting more flavors to taste and eat, like at a buffet but you're not at a buffet.
