I just purchased the template and find this a very wonderful video. I've got my main hexagons cut out and some different fabric backings. Waiting for my black and white material for the rest of the quilt I want to make. Thank you for all of this.
Found you on Missouri Quilt Co. and bought your templates and pattern! New to paper piecing and very excited to find your hand quilting process! I love hand piecing and find my "zen" in the process. I started January 2020 with the passing of my Mom who had dementia. My sister and I were her caretakers. Then came March and Covid-19. It has been a rough time, but I have found some peace in hand quilting! Thank you for sharing you special stitch, I have just begun my first quilt with materials I have saved and so thrilled to find you on RUclips!! ♥
Hi, received my template this afternoon and I am very excited. Have got the perfect project, I am making quilts that go on the incubators in the neo natal icu, I have a stash of very hungry caterpillar fabric so this will look great, I have already cut out 10 'sandwiches'. I thought the little note with the template was charming. Thank you,
I got these templates and this will be my next hand sewing project, as soon as I finish the one I am doing. I love the cute white border around each hexie. Just adorable! And now the precut batting is available!
I too came here from Missouri Star - which is ironic as I am in the UK! I have now purchased the two templates I wanted (2.5 in hexagon and 2.5 in diamond) and have to say I am impressed with the efficient delivery - I received my templates the morning after I put the order in. Really looking forward to having a go with this. I love hexies but always think “why did I start this?” When working with them - they always take so much longer than I remember! This looks like a great time saver.
I watched the Missouri Star video too. Several years ago I found a picture of a beautiful hexagon wall hanging. Until now, I didn’t know how to duplicate it. I’m excited to try this out. I want to do it by hand. I’m glad you hooked up with Missouri Star. If you put a link to your website and links to any products you talk about in the section below your video, you’ll get more people visiting your website. The first thing I did after watching your video was to look for the link to your website, but it wasn’t there. Thanks for showing Jenny how to do this!!
Happy New Year Nicola! Thanks for this fun QAUG method of quilting. I too came here by way of Missouri Star; Jenny was just so excited about it that I had to check it out! I have started sewing my hexies, but like some others here I am looking for some tips on how to hand sew rows or sections together. I just watched the video for machine-stitching, but I am hoping you are also filming one for hand stitching. Those Y seams can be tricky. Thanks!
Hi Laura, thanks for watching, I hand sew the hexagons the same way as I machine stitch them, so I join them into rows and then join the rows, it is just a case of keeping right sides together and when you get to the end of a hexagon secure your stitch with a knot before going onto the next hexagon. But saying all that I now know that I need to do a video on that as well. So watch this space, Nicola XXX
Daisy and Grace Thanks for your reply! That does help as I plan my joining strategy. But I would still love to see you do it - especially sewing those Y seams together. ☺️
Love your quilts. I saw your template on Missouri Star website. Question about the hand stitched version. Is there any issue with the batting shifting when the quilt is washed? Thanks so much.
My hand sewn hexies are not perfect(beginner). So I know there will be spots where I will not have picked up a thread of batting when sewing them. Before I join them by hand is there anything I sound do to make sure the batting won’t bunch up when I wash the quilt?
Yes I have done a video already, please see link below. X www.bing.com/videos/search?q=youtube+daisy+and+grace&docid=608022537929493629&mid=E6654A603DAF1B4FE931E6654A603DAF1B4FE931&view=detail&FORM=VIRE
Would i sew the hexis together row by row so one side first then when i attach the second row i would be sewing two sides to the hexi's of the first row?
Me, too! I have a stack of hexis I would like to hand sew into a quilt or table runners, but I can't see how to sew the rows together. Since I don't want to make a very long quilt caterpillar, I will wait for your expert instruction. Thanks!
I would like to know what thread wt you used to stitch the finished hexies together? I’m worried since there’s no additional backing I might not get it strong enough. 💚
Thank you! I had been wondering if you could do this for QAYG as the other methods I've seen seem so complicated to me. :-) I too came here from the Missouri Star video, wanting to see how Nicola did her stitch! Thanks so much for this, Nicola. (Also, any thoughts on when/if the half hexie template will be available at MSQ? I've got the star in the hexagon on my wishlist but would love this one too!)
Hi, thank you for liking my templates, I don't know if Missouri are planning on doing the half hexagon but I have put the link below to my website where you can find all the templates. I can post any of the templates that Missouri aren't stocking to the USA. Happy Sewing Nicola X www.daisyandgrace.co.uk/collections/templates

This looks absolutely amazing 🎉 I’m hooked . All I need now is the scrap pieces off fabric. Thank you so much for that stitching technique 🙏
This is exactly what I've been looking for! Haven't started yet since, I'm still working on my previous project, but I'm planning ahead. Thanks!
Thank you for the video. I much prefer the hand stitching. So pretty.

Can you please show us how to hand sew rows together?
Very nicely explained thank you Nicola xxx
Thank you Carol X
Wonderful stitch! Can I use instead of a whipstitch in a not as you go quilt? I have to get your templates and try this method!
Really helpful, thank you.
Thank you Lin X
Love your quilts. I saw your template on Missouri Star website. Question about the hand stitched version. Is there any issue with the batting shifting when the quilt is washed? Thanks so much.
Hi, is there another video which is closer up or better quality? I can't quite figure out this stitch. Thank you!
Does the ladder stitch have gaps and that’s why you do this method instead?
My hand sewn hexies are not perfect(beginner). So I know there will be spots where I will not have picked up a thread of batting when sewing them. Before I join them by hand is there anything I sound do to make sure the batting won’t bunch up when I wash the quilt?
Any chance you will be doing a tutorial on how to machine stitch the hexies together? That would be lovely!

Hello Lisa, I will be doing a video this week showing how I join them, so please subscribe and then you won't miss it. Happy sewing New Year.
Nicola x
Do you find the need to quilt inside the hexagon?
Do you need to tack the batting somehow so it won’t bunch up?
I am curious how you would join the one above it with a Y stitch.
Hi Catherine, I have now realised that I need to do another video on this so please watch this space, I'll get onto it. Nicola XXX

Nicola, did you ever post a video on how to hand stitch the hexagons above. I am not sure how to hand stitch. Thanks!
I would like to know what thread wt you used to stitch the finished hexies together? I’m worried since there’s no additional backing I might not get it strong enough. 💚
Hi Donn, at the moment I am using Mettler no.50 silk finish cotton it gives me a lovely finish. Happy Sewing, Nicola X

D M G, I bought the template yesterday from MSQC’s website. I’m referring to the template she used in this video.
Do you double the thread?
I got my templates from Missouri Star. Will you be selling others?
Excellent thank you Rebecca, Missouri Star only have a few of mine at the moment, but you can find more on my website

Many thanks Nicola X

😇🇦🇿👍
Do you double your thread?
Hi Cindy, I use a single strand of thread as it makes it less bulky. Thanks for watching I hope it helps.
Happy Sewing
Nicola X
I think that is a ladder stitch.
