  • Welcome back to the channel for another great train chase! Today we'll be chasing the beautiful 4-4-0 American Replica - York 17. The York 17 is an Oil burning 2013 replica built specifically for the Northern Central Railway.
The track bed of the NCR are part of a century plus old network that once was the PRR mainline to Harrisburg from Baltimore prior to the Northeast Corridor. The railroad last served freight customers in the early 1980s and according to the local New Freedom Museum staff, the track system suffered major damage from Hurricane Agnes, Summer 1972.
The NCR utilizes a single track with several passing track sidings located in New Freedom, Glen Rock, and Seven Valleys. The original line would have included a double mainline in most areas.
Today's excursion will be a short trip from New Freedom to Glen Rock PA - Approx. 1 hour excursion through the rural York County Countryside.

    Enjoy the Chase!
    Happy Railroading!

Great video Nick! I loved the black and white intro, the only thing missing was some Civil War soldiers!
If I remember my history correctly President Lincoln rode part of the old Northern Central on his way to Gettysburg for the dedication of the national cemetery late in 1863. And we all know about the greatest speech in American history he gave there.
My goodness, the York is one beautiful engine! A lot of modern-day railfans and modelers dismiss 19th Century steam and railroading out-of-hand and I have no idea why, that's where it all began. Those pioneer railroaders are the ones who laid the groundwork for what we have now.
Thanks again! I've gotta get out there one day!

Thanks so much for watching! Exactly right, Lincoln split off the NCR after delivering a practice speech / draft at the Hanover Junction and his funeral train would also utilize the tracks. Definitely should check it out, they have a bunch of events going on this summer.

Dave, keep your eyes open at train shows for Lionel's Generals of varying forms, also MTH's versions if you like those old 4-4-0's. I prefer the MTH ones myself (I've got five) although the older Lionels will be old-school conventional with simpler electricals. Both shouldn't be hard to find, quite a few have been made over the years. I don't think anyone's done an O Gauge "York" yet.

Super nice old Loco and cars. They look like indoor museum pieces. Also, a very interesting cow catcher. I'm still having fun with the reissue of the Mikey Mouse circus set. You commented about the ones you have seen being very expensive. How much were they asking? Have fun.
