I find it interesting that I have been on this planet almost 81 years and I never heard of Akutagawa before today. I am wondering why that is. I am a trained musician and son of a musician and have not been asleep most of this time. This is good stuff.

Sir; this beautiful music was taken from a NAXOS CD. NAXOS releases a lot of 20th-21st century music the traditional 'major' record labels are not interested in.
Here some suggestions for your listening enjoyment:
Akio Yashiro and Hiroshi Ohguri from Japan; Douglas Lilburn from New Zealand; Tan Dun, Guo Wenjing and Bright Sheng from China; Alla Pavlova from RussiUSA.

@@stephenjablonsky1941 'Composer Satoh' gives me three leads: Toyohiko (born 1943), Somei (born 1947), and Keijiro (1929-2009). That means lot of new music to be discovered, nice.

I have read that this was written after a visit to the Ellora Caves, though to me, it has a strong 1950s science fiction vibe instead, a kind of monstrous calamity to it. Thank you for posting! Very interesting.
