Really like listening to you. I'm a bass man for years, and i have had always thought flies should be articulated and larger. Wow i really like that you share knowledge please don't stop.....
I fished the BASS Pro Tournaments about 30 years ago, qualified for 2 Classics. Kelly is the only trout guy I’ve heard recognize the talent of those anglers and relate the relevance of what they do and how it relates to all fishing. Competition breeds innovation. If trout fishing competitions were prevalent I feel streamer fishermen would do well and I’m sure very effective techniques that you never imagined would come to light. I
One of may all time favorite Millhouse episodes! What a cool ass dude. Informative and hilarious. Cocky and humble at the same time. Not many people can pull that off! Learned a lot from this one. Thanks guys!
"My job was to duplicate this . . . " By river experience, Kelly is doing what all scientist do: replicate the experiment to learn and validate. It take a disciplined mind to pull that off. Thanks for a great conversation.
I've watched every episode since the beginning, I definitely habit top 10. This is one of the best if not the best! Chest completely immersed in fishing! 👏👏👏
What a great podcast , Kelly is so passionate about what he does it gets you excited just to listen and think about how approaches fishing . I agree 100% on the fact you have to put the time in and to learn as much as you can from everyone . I’m 75 and have asked a lot of questions , fished with some great fishermen and learned a lot of different techniques and I find it’s exciting to learn all you can and put it to use . That’s what makes us better no matter what we do . Thanks for sharing , will see you on the flats in May :-)
I’ve bass fished since 1968, trout fished since 2018 and fly fishing since 2022. If I needed to catch a 27” trout I’d grab my casting rod out of my bass boat and throw a Jerk Bait. It’s a lot easier to get the cadence necessary to trigger a big trout with a Jerk Bait. I’m working on my Streamer presentation!
Went to the white river Arkansas the dudes using a 8-12” jerk baits and 15 braid no leader I thought he was nuts. What u fishing for ? Big browns. ? Says he catches and releases 24” plus fish all the time. Come to find out he has a cabin there. He lives in Mo so I guess he’s a local ? I went up there July and August. Hot high water but I kept the fly going and did good lots of 18”. Fish mix I did do a guided trip just cause the top lit up about 2:00 pm. There bugs are very large from what Iam used too
This is an amazing and insightful interview. I am a T-ball angler to Kelly being in the Baseball HoF. My home water is the Lower Sacramento. No brown trout here. But there are big (relatively speaking in this context) rainbows. I have been told that it is NOT a place to streamer fish for trout. But after this, I want to experiment!
After a second viewing, all that can be said is... INTENSE! Welcome to the Kelly Galloup Show; someone who could put the muzzle on Andy and make it a real interview. Somewhere in there this popped into my head, Ted Nugent's line to Marge Simpson about her daughter Lisa's vegetarianism, "She can gnaw on an antler. Antlers ain't meat.".... mic drop. Very well done, Nicky and Andy. Cheers!
Great program! The one aspect of the program, however, that should be clarified is that Roland Martin, Linder bros., etc. all studied at the feet of the master, Buck Perry.
Wow…this is really insightful. I worked some of the first “Bass Fishing Institutes” and learned so much that I still apply to fly fishing. Kelly is right about streamer fishing. I still have the mindset that I want to take trout on the surface, so I’m willing to put on a streamer as a last resort, just to catch a fish.
They should close the river during the spawn, I feel the same way about bass fishing how many tournaments are held during the spawn the guys just slam them and wonder why they not only lose the eggs but they also many times the fish as well.

Trout competitions are what lead to euro nymphing, but they are more about number of fish (think mlf) than size
Provides great insights into Kelly as a person. Very fascinating.
Everything’s coming up millhouse! Thanks for the share!
Love these podcasts. Such great interviews of awesome guests.

Kelly Isn't just a Streamer God he is the definition of what it takes to understand big trout

Kelly is a Madison Valley treasure!
AMEN Kelly!!! Close the rivers during the spawn.

Andy you have to interview Al Caucci up on the delaware.
Mickey Finn...no way...in ancient times, it was one of my dad's favorite streamers.
1:40:00 The kerosene is in the fire!😊
Hey Kelly! If I know the name of the river north of you would you fish with me?
