- Flip Pallot is undeniably one of the largest figures in fly fishing today. You might know him from his profound TV show, Walker’s Cay Chronicles, or perhaps one of the hundred YETI commercials that accentuate his alluring persona. Anyhow, Flip is the exact person you think he is. He is the ultimate outdoorsman, a romantic born 100 years too late. Flip speaks fluent in Palm, Cabbage, and Turkey. There is no weakness in articulation or diction. Some say he is the most interesting man in fly fishing. He is a pioneer, a modern day explorer, and an innovator who’s spirit is fresh and wild.
We drove three hours north to find Flip graciously observing his untouched native backyard under his airstream canopy undisturbed by the foul weather. Soon he invites us into his garage and we chat about TV, the early years of Florida Bay, and his best friend Lefty.

As a kid growing up in the inner city, I watched Flip, Lefty, Jose, Andy, George on the weekends instead of watching cartoons….To see the places they’d fish, set the spark to fish and go on adventures. I’m not I’m not the only one
his respect for nature and wisdom with the important aspects of life put him in another league of true sportsmen

Thanks Andy and Nicky...what an epic podcast! I lived in Miami in the 60’s as a boy and grew to love inshore saltwater fishing with my dear dad who passed last year. Dad and I watched Walker Cay Chronicles together and loved it. The history of fly fishing in south Florida during that period was phenomenal. Anglers like Flip, Lefty, Chico, and many others were true pioneers in the sport, and those of us who do it today have benefited from their vast knowledge. Keep em’ coming!

Stu Apte, Lefty, Flip, were my heros and still are at 76yr old. I have never taken the chance to do the inshore fly fishing that i adore. I still fish gills and smb and dream of the inshore salt fly fishing.
From my very earliest memories till I was about 7or8 Walkers cay was this mythical place that I would hear my dad talk about with my uncles and his close friends. And how he would every once in a while disappear for a week every now and then to this mysterious place. Making that run in a 20’ Grady white with a 135 Johnson. I always had one of those “it’s better in the Bahamas” t shirts for my entire childhood. I couldn’t wait to watch the show every week.
I could listen to flip talk all day. Walkers cay is why I started fly fishing. Thanks Andy!
Simple wisdom and exponential life lessons! This just truly makes my heart happy!
I am 72 and well realizing the finish line is close. I had cervical surgery 18 months ago. I have some walking issues and balance. They are not totally gone but challenged. I have a 21’ bay boat I share with my son and grandson. I can get on the frond deck with a hand. I am ok until chop comes then need a leaning seat. I am perfectly happy on the deck. My son and grandson push me to stay up on the deck. I could fish alone but cannot get out the boat over the front during loading process. I have watched all I could of your adventure since my early years God bless Flip for taking me on so many adventures.
Would give everything to spend a day on the water with this guy, absolutely loved this episode.
Another great one. I would not have guessed 77. Flip and Steve are not human! And neither is Andy. They all are wonderful role models for the rest of us wanting to fish and hunt as long as possible. I agree that any land given up by Big Sugar should be purchased by the state and/or federal government. The archery discussion was fascinating and I'm not even an archer. Keep 'em coming!

Absolute living Legand! Me and all my friends grew up watching walkers cay chronicles. My friends dad was a guide in biscayne bay and Islamorada Capt. Ken Collette who took us fishing as young kid the rest is history!

This is an invaluable service you both are providing, interviewing all these icons. It is very much appreciated. Nikki, I see one interview that has yet to be done that I feel is equally as important for his contribution to fishing and as an American icon. That is your dad. The story of Andy Mill needs to be told as well. In many respects, Andy's life is, even more, a microcosm of the American experience and as such is important to be brought to an existing and new audience.

This was great! You guys touched on a lot of topics that hit home with me. Im a fishing guide over in Gunnison CO. You three are all invited to come fishing with me. Green Drake dries out of the boat for Nicky and Andy. Flip we will get you off the beaten path to some of the nooks and crannies I need to get back to. I even got a dozen flies tied for today while taken in your conversation. Keep it up!

Been looking for content on Andy and flip. Andy I listened to you on April Vokeys podcast talking about tarpon. I am beyond obsessed with tarpon and that’s an issue because I live in Missouri. So it’s awesome to see you having a podcast. Even more epic is the guys you are interviewing. Flip is a legend.

Really enjoying this series so far. Mr. Mill, you and you son clearly come very well prepared and your questions, both prepared and off the cuff, are interesting and insightful. Thank you for making this. I was trying to think of someone to recommend for an interview, and the first couple of people I thought of were sadly no longer with us. Lefty and Jose. I fished with an interesting guide that fished the keys for many years and put me on my first (and only to date) big tarpon on a fly. His name was Rick Bouley. Last time I saw him he was guiding out of the panhandle. I don’t think he ever guided anyone to a world record, but he loved fly fishing for tarpon and had some pretty good stories about learning to guide in key west in the 70s and 80s.

I can't believe I haven't seen this till today , I watched him when he started his shows and he's a large part on why I moved to Florida some 30 years ago, I'm listening to flip describe his journey and our lives have a really uncanny similarity flip has about 4 or 5 years on me , I'm really kicking myself because I had a chance to meet him at one of the local tackle shops and missed out ,I would have liked to thank him for the inspiration he injected into me even to this day, ya flip your on my bucket list .
Great video. There are no magic pill solutions to the water quality problems in Florida, but the SJRWMD, FDEP and 1/2 cent lagoon tax is helping fund needed projects. You can’t fix 50 years of abuse overnight. But good things are happening.
I've watched a lot of these Mill House interviews and they are great. One thing I usually want to hear more about is the anglers relationship with the natural world, if you talk about someones ecological efforts I am probably supportive but if you talk about someones fascination and love of their waters I will be engaged. Fundamentally these are people fascinated by figuring out a whole system of animal behavior in incredible dynamic environments like the keys or the everglades, watched it intimately over years and years, and I wish that got more value in the conversations.
Flip is a national treasure.
Another good one.......good to see the veneer stripped to get through to the heart of the matter.

At some point, you may want to have an example of the old school and new school together to discuss the changes over time and how things evolved over the decades. And see how they perceive each other’s generations and in different eras of fishing and fisheries. One of the 70+ age (Steve Huff, Flip, Stu, Sandy, Chico, Rick Ruoff etc), and one of the 25-35 or so year old new generation angler or guide that is universally respected. It could gives us all new insight about the past, present, and future. That has not been done yet.
We have done an episode with Stu and it will air sometime soon. He was great.

I enjoyed listening to these so much. I could listen to Steve Huff and Flip Pallot forever.
So much has changed over the years. The fisheries, the environments/habitats, the fishing pressure, newer techniques and strategies, the boats, the tackle, the amount of choices of gear, the advent of smartphones, mobile internet, various social media platforms, texting etc. And this is why it might be good to have the best young and old compare notes and observations of the changes in a podcast. Listing the changes between say 1960-2020.
