@yadhiraguante7009 it was about 3 months. That was with me submitting my documents as soon as they were requested. At some points I felt that maybe they changed their mind cause of how long it was taking. Just make sure you keep your paystubs and all pages of bank statements up to date. They will ask you for updated ones again. I made sure to call them at least twice a week so they saw how much I wanted the apartment and I was extra polite when speaking to them. LOL, I really enjoyed this video !! I've been searching for some insight into the lottery apartment application process and I can say you thoroughly explained it well. The price of your apartment is a bit steep yet I can definitely relate to everything you receive it is 100% worth what you pay. Living in NYC all my life I would've definitely taken up the same opportunity if I had the chance because you're getting a luxury apartment with all the amenities for a fraction of the actual cost. I pray I get one soon myself :)
I hope you get one too! It is definitely not cheap by any means, but worth it for NY standards. You can definitely get more value for your money living somewhere else though, but I'm not interested in other places atm.
I love your vibrant energy and extend my gratitude for generously sharing these valuable insights with us. Personally, I pay $1,650 for my apartment in Flatbush, and it falls under rent control. I also work as a teacher, but I'm considering leaving my current apartment due to security concerns. I'm willing to pay more for a place that offers enhanced security and gym amenities. I've already applied, and now I'm in the waiting phase. However, with the influx of migrants, I'm curious if they still plan to prioritize them over NYC residents and those who are homeless and searching for apartments. blessings to you and your channel

It's August 2023 and I just had someone call me for an apartment that I appied for in 2019. I had to turn it down because I took something else last year. But be ready, and patient.
So my understanding is that the applicants from previous years stay in the system for years and they pile up and add up to the newer applications in some sort of waiting list. But please let me know if this is wrong. My question is: if you got called in 2023 for 2019, do you have to show that you qualified for the requirements for 2019? What happens if your income has gone up or down now in the present but you did meet the requirements for that year? That is so unclear. Please help me understand. Thanks in advance
Hi! From my understanding, I believe it stays in the system and anyone can definitely correct me if I'm wrong. You would also need to prove your current income situation, not from the year you applied. If you're still within the income range of the place you originally applied for, you would just need to show them updated documentation. I would research more, but I definitely have been emailed about previous places. I just couldn't accept since I have this place and a different income situation.@@eleonora1027

It was more of a joke since they needed all of my info. They did ask for my birth certificate which has your parents SS on it but they did not specifically request that from her. I was just being dramatic lol

Thank you for sharing. May I ask how you become a part time nanny? My daughter moved to NYC from CT, she is dancer and she dances from Brooklyn Nets….her real professional job? In short she needs more income. Thank you in advance.
Congratulations on finding your apartment. Quick question what if you lose your job mid lease or you transfer to a job with lesser pay, can you ask to be switched to a cheaper apartment in the building?
Hi! I’m not sure. I do believe that these units go quickly so most likely there are waitlists for the other units. Also, the apartment that you’re in may already be the cheaper one since others are paying market value.
TY for all the details. as a low income family, I've been wondering what the real price is once in. A tad worried since we have no bills and living with relatives. I half way want to call and ask questions, but don't want to jinx myself trying to manifest the possibility. Do you think the chances are better or worse for single applicants vs family?
Hii! I can't speak too much on single applicants vs families. I know one person who was able to get an affordable housing apt with their 2 kids and husband but I don't know the process. Hopefully someone here can share their experience!
Hi! I recommend not bringing the documents to the viewing since it is only a viewing and not a guarantee of getting the apartment. Most of the documents requested are digital also, but it never hurts to check with the agent manager of that apartment!
Hi Ashley, thank you for the well-detailed video. Appreciate it a lot! I do have a question - I just made an account to start applying to the housing. However, I am currently not working and it's been about 2 weeks now. I stopped at the section on income while doing my profile. Should I go ahead and apply either way even though I know by Go'd grace, I'll get a great job soon? Or should I wait till I get a job before applying? I have heard it takes a long process, which is why I want to start now. I am slowly dying living with dirty roommates. Please, thank you.
Hii! Sorry for the late response. I don’t know if you went ahead and applied already but hopefully now you have a job and can provide proof of employment for your past applications. Living with roommates can be exhausting sometimes so I get it! Best of luck on your housing lottery journey! Keep applying because you never know when they’ll contact you and you might even be making within that income range!
I believe that this just means they’re replenishing the waiting list in case the current tenants move out. That way they can have a list to start the application process and get those apartments filled.
I loved this video and your energy. I got contacted (I am log number 303) and I had to submit all the documents. How long did you have to wait to know if you are approved or denied?
The entire process from being contacted to signing the lease took 2 months. I got denied maybe a week later and then did the appeal which took me a few days because I had to wait on documents from my employer and then had to wait another week for them to accept my appeal.
I’m a bit confused. Why would they have full access to your bank account? And what if you have multiple bank accounts or a bank account in a different state how would they know? And how did they know about your specific transactions. I feel like that’s so invasive just for an affordable apartment.
It is a lot of information to give just for an apartment, so I agree with you! It’s mainly to show them your assets and to see if you can afford it, I suppose. As for them not knowing about bank accounts in a different state, I’m not sure how they would find out but hiding it doesn’t seem like the right move in my opinion.
Hi! Love your videos. I got chosen for a housing lottery a few days ago and confused about the documents I should submit. I currently live with my parents but applying just to move out on my own. So, should I include my parents info in the application? They ask to include ID of household members.
Hii! Sorry for the late response. No, you are not considered approved if you are showed the apartment. You are only approved after your paperwork is approved and a lease is given.
I was recently contacted for documents, but I hadn't updated my HC profile yet with all my assets. Should I just give the documents in even though it's not on the profile? Will I be auto rejected?
Hi! What did you end up doing? If your profile isn’t updated but you still qualify for an apt because of your salary range, you should be okay if that apt is available. But you never know, because this process can be different for each building.
@AshleySheWrote Hello, thank you for replying. I decided not to move forward in the process because my income changed, and I didn't like the options available.
Hi can I please ask. I left my job last month and they contacted me recently. Is it possible to use a guarantor in the meantime as I try to get a new job? Thank you so much!
Hi! I’m not sure if these lotteries accept a guarantor or if they allow you to still rent if you’re in between jobs. Try contacting the housing manager before submitting anything!
hey how long did it take to hear back from you housing developer for a viewing? I handed in all of my documents and I also keep in contact with the project developer. The developer told me to sit tight, they will email me the viewing appointment. Also does a viewing mean you got the apartment? In addition I appealed this unit two years ago 2021 and then the developer reached back out to me about two months ago that the unit is vacant.
Hi Ashley thank you so much for your vídeo is very helpful! I always have paid my rental by cash, cause I get my payment by cash, so It never withdraw from my bank account! That could be an issue?
hey, great vid, just a question, i've applied to many apartments like over 10 places through the website, i want to know how long does it usually take to get the apartment? do they care whats on the credit score or care about the income? im not in a lease in the apartment im in, so what go from there?
Hii! 1. When it comes to time it takes to get the apartment, It all depends on the housing agency. If your log number is chosen and you’re asked for paperwork, the faster you get it in the sooner they can look over it. 2. You have the option to turn in a credit score or 12 months of on time rent payments. Income is also important because they want to make sure you can pay the rent. 3. If you’re not on the lease of your current apartment, I’m not exactly sure the step to take for that. I would just check in with the housing manager and ask if you can provide a notarized letter with your roommates signature to state that you also live there. Hope this helps!
@@AshleySheWrote oh on thanks, ik this is old and all but just one more question, lets say i live in jersey, am i still eligible to get an apartment on a housing connect Of NYC?? like if i live in New Jersey for example
Hii! You have the option to show 12 months of rent payment or consent to a credit score review. I chose to do a credit score review because it would work in my favor.
Awesome vid! Quick question: When it comes to your current address, do they ask for a bill with your name on or something to verify your current place? Because, I don't pay for bills where I'm renting at right now.
Hi! I had to go through this process for an apt I was denied for. The bills were in my roommates' name so we went to the notary to sign a letter I typed up expressing that I pay 1/3 of our bills at our address. Hope this helps!
Thank you so much Ashley for the video! I have a very tricky income situation. My pay is within the range of affordable housing but last year I got laid of by the end of the year and I got a good severance which inflated my W2 and this year my full time job is paying me within range but I work in the side as a freelancer adding the freelancer money to my full time yearly income will exceed their limit. I was thinking about not talking about that freelance job because it’s inconsistent and I don’t even have a contract not sure what to do! Thanks
I think it's best to still include that freelance job because it is a source of income and the last thing you want to do is hide anything! I had a freelance gig that was super inconsistent and they ask me to write a letter estimating how much I expect to make the following year with that gig. I didn't put a high number because honestly, it was too inconsistent to even say a high number. Hope this helps!
Yes put your income as low as possible also put your self as either having mental illness or be a woman! Single males need to be discriminated against in housing because it promotes marriage and room needs to be made for women with children and single women who want children but don’t want to get married.
I’d like to say yes, but I’m not exactly sure! Maybe if you have a credit history, then this would help your chances of proving that you can pay the rent on time.
Hi @AshleySheWrote , Will my chances be affected if one of my bank statements show a loan payment I recieved from a debt consolidation program as in will this be considered a raise my income bracket? I understand that I should provide a notarized letter explaining all non job related deposits (cash, account transfers) however, I am curious to know if I explain that the loan payment ($6,800) I recieved to pay off my credit card bill will cause an issue of some sort.
Thanks for doing this. I came up for a truely affordable apartment, but my situation is different, living on social security. I just finished my first batch of submissions knowing there may be more later. I'm so nervous, because getting this would make a huge difference in my life. What I learned from your video is that there is an appeal process. There's comfort in that, because I was totally truthful, but there aare issues I'm so nervous about whether I've done everything right. Not knowing anyone who's gone through this, well, again, I really appreciate your doing this. I have a curiosity question. For my building it says there would be an additional fee for the amenities. I have no idea what that means and whether I'd be able to afford it. I just cannot find any information on what people are paying for building amenities. Do you pay such a fee, and if so, could you share what it is?
Hi! Apologies for the late response. As for the fee for amenities, it’s building dependent. You would have to ask the landlord what the fee is for amenities. I do not pay an additional fee for the amenities in my building. It is included in the monthly rent. I hope there’s a positive update to your situation since it’s been so long. Wishing you the absolute best in your housing journey.
@@AshleySheWrote Thanks. I'm still in review. It's a new building so they don't even have all the apartments finished yet. But I think the end is in sight. I keep getting excited but don't talk about it with friends and family because I know it might not happen. It's one weird system.
I received the following message on the NYC housing website: Your application review is complete. The marketing agent will contact you with more instructions." The last I spoke with the marketing agent they told me they were waiting for HPD approval. Does this message mean that I was approved? Please let me know.
Hii, this message does not mean you are approved and lease ready, especially if the marketing agent expressed that they were waiting for approval. You will know for sure when you are approved when they share an email expressing so.
Congratulations 🎉🎉 love this video question what if u are using a fheps Voucher. I was asked to send my last documents two weeks ago . Can u elaborate on if u have a voucher as payment 😀
This is a really good question! I’m assuming that freelancer would classify as self employed. So If you’re talking about before you start applying for apartment, I would probably use the salary from this years W-2. You could also use months Jan-April pay and do an estimate of how much you anticipate making until the end of the year. This is just my best guess, so perhaps someone else who has specific experience in freelancing can add on! After I was contacted, I had to do an estimate of how much I thought I would make from Twitch the following year and this was because twitch’s pay is unpredictable which sounds very similar to freelancing.

Don’t… I would not include his information I would use this time to level up and get somebody else who won’t have you in that situation in the first place. I would connect with somebody who does homeless housing like a shelter or something and maybe spend the night and day or something to get you posted to the top of the list as an emergency situation
Hi people. Has anyone already sent documents to the address 409 eastern parkway? A month has passed since submitting documents, there is some kind of waiting list, it is not clear what this means.
Because u make alot u in a higher Area Medium Income bracket but if area is $3500 probably manhattan so still not bad but i been trying for the 30 to 50 percent AMI’s and thanks your video helped me also
When I applied some years ago before this one, my roommate and I went to a notary to sign a letter stating that I pay 1/3 of the bills that are in her name. It was 3 of us total, so that's why I paid 1/3. You can double check with the housing manager about how they'd like to go about it.

I’m hoping they don’t need my credit. 😭 I took an income hit w my new job which is why I applied rather than looking for my own apartment and it messed me up w bills 😢 I’ve been trying to get back on track but my credit score reflected this situation so poorly

great information. but a lot is lost with too many filler words/info. and you get distracted too easily, i find myself fast fowarding a bunch of times. its like someone who is trying to write a 1000 word essay but only really has 500 words of meaningful stuff to write. this video could have been a lot shorter, probably would have gained a lot more subscribers and views. just a feedback. you have potential, good personality and definitely did your research, and you also explained things well, just way way too much useless info.
Your parents ssn is usually on your birth certificate. So they’re not actually asking for that info, but it’s provided to them when you give them your forms of ID. That’s all I meant by that. Hope that helps!

Definitely save up and make sure you’re set for at least a few months of rent for wherever you’re staying. I think for this neighborhood compared to what others pay, this price isn’t so bad for a studio. Definitely wish it was a one bedroom though haha

What’s the possibility of being contacted lot number 22,000😅😢 never lol
Can you also drop off your documents, instead of downloading?, because sometimes the documents don't always go through, you will see error
I believe you can ask for a mailing address, but I’m not sure! You could try emailing the person of contact once documents are being requested
They were definitely giving priorities to school teachers ! I know a few people from the same realms.
Hi! Love your videos. I got chosen for a housing lottery a few days ago and confused about the documents I should submit. I currently live with my parents but applying just to move out on my own. So, should I include my parents info in the application? They ask to include ID of household members.
No only who will live in the new apartment
Great video. Thank you !!!
If you make it to the viewing process are you considered approved??
Hii! Sorry for the late response. No, you are not considered approved if you are showed the apartment. You are only approved after your paperwork is approved and a lease is given.
Lease signed and i moved in ❤thankyou …
Omg, yes! Congratulations!! @@youngpegz5236
Anyone know anything about filling out the affidavit please.
Hey Ashley, I’m wondering if they asked for your credit score?
Do you help with the manifesting? Lol also did u live in one of the 5 boroughs?
Lol I can certainly try to help with the manifesting! And yes, I do!
I had question that I never rent apartment can I still apply the affordable apartment lower income
@@AshleySheWrote thank you! I’m approved. I’ll be moving in at the end of the month. I’m happy
Congratulations 🎉🎉 love this video question what if u are using a fheps Voucher. I was asked to send my last documents two weeks ago . Can u elaborate on if u have a voucher as payment 😀
Thank you! No voucher! I paid deposit and first month’s rent.
@@anng8972 Congratulations!!
Very informative.
For the income page…. I am a Freelancer. The jobs I had last year I won’t have them this year. How do I fill out my income section?
This is a really good question! I’m assuming that freelancer would classify as self employed. So If you’re talking about before you start applying for apartment, I would probably use the salary from this years W-2. You could also use months Jan-April pay and do an estimate of how much you anticipate making until the end of the year. This is just my best guess, so perhaps someone else who has specific experience in freelancing can add on!
After I was contacted, I had to do an estimate of how much I thought I would make from Twitch the following year and this was because twitch’s pay is unpredictable which sounds very similar to freelancing.
I got evicted in NJ so I’m trying to figure out what to do.
So sorry to hear that!
I’ve been on the housing waiting list for years I need help bad i never applied for housing connect yet but I do have disability and I’m am low income but I do live with my boyfriend but not really sure if I want him coming along do I need to provide his information also ? I just need help. So bad 😢
Don’t… I would not include his information I would use this time to level up and get somebody else who won’t have you in that situation in the first place. I would connect with somebody who does homeless housing like a shelter or something and maybe spend the night and day or something to get you posted to the top of the list as an emergency situation
You do not need to include his information. If you go to a DV shelter they will help you get a fheps voucher after about 60 days.
Hi people. Has anyone already sent documents to the address 409 eastern parkway? A month has passed since submitting documents, there is some kind of waiting list, it is not clear what this means.
Because u make alot u in a higher Area Medium Income bracket but if area is $3500 probably manhattan so still not bad but i been trying for the 30 to 50 percent AMI’s and thanks your video helped me also
Ashley She Wrote! Thank you for sharing your experience 😊
Question what if you live with someone I'm applying for me only no bills in my name
When I applied some years ago before this one, my roommate and I went to a notary to sign a letter stating that I pay 1/3 of the bills that are in her name. It was 3 of us total, so that's why I paid 1/3. You can double check with the housing manager about how they'd like to go about it.
Did you put your net or gross income??
Gross
Im so freakin happy for you. You had me rollin lmao. I wanted to ask you how do ypu put the documents all in one pdf?
@AshleySheWrote
@@ko5817 I'm not sure if you have to have a premium version of Adobe in order to do this, but I do have the creative cloud subscription. So for me, I select/highlight on all the PDF's I want to combine then hit 'combine files in acrobat'. There you can arrange the order before finalizing.
@@AshleySheWrote extremely helpful thx so much Ashley!
@@ko5817 No problem!
I’m hoping they don’t need my credit. 😭 I took an income hit w my new job which is why I applied rather than looking for my own apartment and it messed me up w bills 😢 I’ve been trying to get back on track but my credit score reflected this situation so poorly
Hii! You should have the option to provide 12 months of rent payment or opt for a credit check but every agency is a little different. Hopefully you have that option to provide 12 months of rent payment to show that you can pay your rent or time. Sending you good vibes!!
Does the apartment belongs to you when you win
If you’re asking if I own the apartment, no. It is rented.
I won for two lotteries and my paper work is still under review ..what shall.i do
Hi! Did you email them and reach out to ask?
I have tried to update my
Email and have not been able to can you advice if you know?
Hi! Are you trying to update your email on the housing connect site? If so, you should be able to do under my account and make changes there. If it's for an application you've already sent, I'll have to look into that to see if it's possible to change it after submission.
Thank you so much 🙏
ugh I submitted my documents in November and still haven't heard anything :/
Oh no, definitely reach out if there is an email on file. I had to do that for one apartment and they got back to me expressing that the apartment was filled.
how long did it take to approve your appeal???
Not too long! Maybe a week or two
i been waiting for past 10 years
Keep applying!! You never know. Sending good vibes your way
Please . This is what I need x
Hi, what log number were you? I am log 77.. is that good?
I believe the lower the log number the better, but I'm not 100% about this. I would do some current research on if that's correct. Best of luck!
@@AshleySheWrote they asked for documents and I just submitted them, what will happen after? How many months did your process take?
What was your log number ?
what if your income isn't within any of the income brackets
Then you 100% should not apply. It'll be a waste of time and you'll automatically be denied without any further investigating.
ARe you in Brooklyn?
Nyc to to much we need a revolution..no reason for any working class to pay over priced ..REVOLUTION WE NEED
What was your log#
Hi! Super late with this but my log # was 3783
great information. but a lot is lost with too many filler words/info. and you get distracted too easily, i find myself fast fowarding a bunch of times. its like someone who is trying to write a 1000 word essay but only really has 500 words of meaningful stuff to write. this video could have been a lot shorter, probably would have gained a lot more subscribers and views. just a feedback. you have potential, good personality and definitely did your research, and you also explained things well, just way way too much useless info.
The secret is say u are in a homeless shelter an have a voucher on deck and ready to go.
They raise rwnt after the year is up is nyc law 1.5%
Basically.. basically.. basically basic..that word. 😮😮😮
Your apartment is not affordable...
Very misleading
I no she's Beautiful omg
Facts
I appreciate the information but, the laughing and bragging was unbearable.
Do they ask for parents ssn every time? My mom wouldn't do that. @ashleyshewrote
Your parents ssn is usually on your birth certificate. So they’re not actually asking for that info, but it’s provided to them when you give them your forms of ID. That’s all I meant by that. Hope that helps!
I‘m paying $2200 for a junior bedroom in another metropolitan city but life is nowhere as exciting as NYC. $2300 in NYC for a 1 bedroom is a steal. 🥲 Thanks for sharing all the info. I had no idea about the lottery. I want to move to NYC hopefully within the next two years. So this is good to know.
Definitely save up and make sure you’re set for at least a few months of rent for wherever you’re staying. I think for this neighborhood compared to what others pay, this price isn’t so bad for a studio. Definitely wish it was a one bedroom though haha
