    As a minister I have been in prayer about how to convert our storage trailer into a OTR cabin for mobile ministry, but hadn't given it much thought in the past few months. Just this morning I was reminded in prayer about the conversion project. God has answered my prayer through your videos. Blessings Sir!!! Shalom!

    This cabin was originally designed as a shelter for the homeless. It can be made as simple or luxurious as you want and I estimate the base cost for framing and sheathing and the trailer at under $1000 depending on materials used. That does not include interior furnishings or appliances and gear.

    How about hinging the top bunk for occasional use only. Then, the underside of that bunk could be used for additional storage space/clothes closet. A great design and presentation! I might have to take this on for my next project. Thanks.

    The top bunk could also become a small storage loft. You could also keep the top bunk if you're young and spry--which I'm not--and make the bottom a sitting and clothes-hanging area.

    I will be using the C200 thetford swivel cassette for the wet shower/toilet on my build. I like the way the cassette has little wheels and a pull out handle (looks like a roll around luggage for the airplane). The access door is on the outside. Just as convenient as using the sawdust/compost units.

    I am about halfway done with my 52sf tiny house. Its 8'x6.5'. I gained some theoretical space by using a flat roof that can be occupied. In mine the roof is accessed via the interior and a roof hatch and is covered with soft artificial turf, so its a fake green roof essentially.

The DOT recommends that you only drive 45 mph and the company I'm getting the trailer from said larger tires will not fit this trailer. What do you recommend? I'm new at this, can it go around 60 mph safely?

      I designed the plans for a larger tire than the 12 inch standard tire that comes with these trailers however the manufacture could change their frame design so I would measure everything and make adjustments to the plans as needed. If you have to change a tire use two jacks and blocks under the frame as that is a lot of weight.

      solarcabin Thanks. Our intention is to make something lightweight to use for occasional medieval camping (make it look like a Tudor style building) with painted canvas roof to look like thatch. The kitchen would be located outside on a slide drawer coming out from under the beds. Also thinking of making the top half fold in for a lower profile for hauling. Would it still be too tippy?

      The problem is the width of the wheel base on a 4x8. If you get out past the wheels very far it will become very tippy. You might get a different axle to extend the wheel base?

    Hey Lamar. What do you do with the Grey water from Shower/and or sink with this design. also the water tanks are they plumbed in for the shower etc or is it done manually. thanks!! i have the A-frame plans as well as this one. i would love to build this!! when i get some time.

    • @solarcabin
      @solarcabin  8 лет назад +1

      You can handle it a couple of ways. I would catch sink water in a bucket to dispose of but grey water from shower can be run onto the ground or into a city septic line or gutter. The fresh water is plumbed in using a 12 volt pump to the shower and sink.

      +Steve Mazzilli Thanks- the HF trailers are only rated for 1100 GVW so it would be pushing the limit. I do have a Wombat micro-camper built on that trailer that is lighter.

    what would you suggest I use under the stove and behind the wall so I don't burn the darn thing down ?

    • @solarcabin
      @solarcabin  8 лет назад +1

      +Sunshine Santiago (Sunny) They make fire board to go behind and under stoves. You can also use corrugated roofing behind the stove with an air space.

    how are you dealing with the wheels / wheel wells? looks like the wheels just sort of go up into the floor.

    • @solarcabin
      @solarcabin  8 лет назад +1

      +Arthur's Tiny House Blog The wheel wells are cut out and covered with a 2x4 box with plywood top. If you look at the nightstand you will see the wheel well box sitting under it. www.simplesolarhomesteading.com/Floor%20panels%20small.png

    Could you repeat in print the name of your website, please? Most videos have their website name shown for several seconds at the end of the video. I can't hear or see at the sound of light! It would be a shame to put this much time and effort into making these plans and videos and then lose sales because you said the name of your site so fast that we can't catch it no matter how many times we replay it.

    Why did you use a porta potty as opposed to a composting toilet?

    • @solarcabin
      @solarcabin  8 лет назад +1

      You could certainly use a composting toilet and a sawdust toilet would be inexpensive. Commercial composting toilets are large and expensive so I show it with a porta-potty that is inexpensive and is what I use in my own cabin.

    • @VetScoop
      @VetScoop 8 лет назад

      I thought you used a composting toilet in your cabin. I watched the videos about your outdoor composting system with the glass covers. Did you change to porta potty and if so why?

    • @solarcabin
      @solarcabin  8 лет назад +1

      I use a porta potty emptied into a solar composter. I didn't want a steaming pile of turds on my property lol

    Nice plan but looks heavy for the trailer. I would use 2x3 studs for the walls and use a metal roof that is on curved laminated joists from one side to the other (or front to rear) and add a few more windows for circulation and maybe even add a small A/C for additional comfort in summer. I might also consider making one bed that is a standard double mattress by squeezing the cabinets on the side and put the refrigerator in the lower kitchen cabinet beside the shower. I would also consider using 1/4" thick plywood for sheathing or 1/4" or 3/8" T1-11 type panel for siding. You could run the grooves horizontal to look like siding since there would be no joints to make front to rear. It is a nice starting point for a micro cabin that can be personalized.

    put a small sink by the toilet because washing poopy and pee off hands in the kitchen sink is just gross and a shower curtain that blocks the toilet and sink so everything doesn't get wet and move the sink to the center of counter and put a small full size frig where the sink was then it is perfect
