I feel like with that set-up my luck one of the times I would forget the door to the cleanroom open and accidentally overly heat the room haha

Congrats on getting an awesome deal on an autoclave! Did I understand you correctly that you used to use atmospheric sterilization for 20 hours for your grain?

Nice equipment Mike! Did I hear your correctly: autoclave spawn for 4 hours?
Heard that too. Made me tilt my head and squint.
I suggest you purchase extra gaskets for your autoclave doors so that you don't need to apply so much pressure to seal the doors. That looks like you are using much more force than necessary, especially when you use a cheater bar.
Sometimes people also don't realize that it is possible to overtighten things that and make it worse vs letting the gasket do the work for you.
I don't know if that's necessarily what's going on here or not since he seems pretty knowledgeable and experienced about most aspects of his operation, but I know with resin casting I have seen people complain about a bad seal and they kept tightening more and more until finally someone told them to try tightening it LESS and that solved their problem and they got a good seal without having to replace the gasket (which was the next recommendation).
I think that this Autoclave don’t need gaskets at all. Same as All American sterilizers.

What you're looking at is the shell. There is another cylindrical tube inside that one that actually contains the pressure of the autoclave.

there is 2 doors, one in the colonization room to load it up (not sterile) & one in the inoculation room/lab to unload (sterile).
by unloading in the inoculation room/lab you only open the it in a sanitized environment.
maybe there will be a video explaining what it looks like inside ?

Hey man can you do a video about how you are actually preparing your grains? It’s the first step I keep messing up consistently with too much moisture and potentially more moisture getting in the bags during pressure cooking. Do you cook them? Soak them? And how you load them etc…. 🙏🏻

E: and I’ve been using one of the portable 24l from China for the past 10months. It’s working pretty good. Ideally you have the knowledge to check the valves etc from time to time but so far it’s working pretty good!

Hi, could you explain why you sterilise substrate and not pasteurise? I don’t understand why it is said that pasteurisation is preferable or sufficient if autoclaving removes all risk of contamination
This is for spawn not substrate, though you can sterilize substrate too if you have a large enough autoclave and or enough time
People like the beneficial bacteria that the pasteuriser leaves behind, it's weak enough for the mycelium to devour it before the molds take off. And it's extra food.
oh ok, so it’s either for practicality or to fully avoid contamination risk, but about those benign bacteria, are they simply consumed or are they allowed by the mycelium as part of their microclimate? I mean, if a bacterium eg helps with breaking down food without hurting the mycelium, i assume it would be kind of a symbiotic relationship. Does anybody have thoughts or research evidence, or life experience, for this?

Bruh.... where were you looking in order to find a steal like that?! Under a thousand bucks, she's mint lol. I am currently using 2 Prestos 16qt but I can only fit 2 bags in at a time and that just takes forever! So where do I need to look in order to find deals like that?
