Yeah it’s nice to play mobile, Iv got others on other mobile platforms which are ok but can be slow. This flies at a pace, some frame drops in areas but nothing serious. A nice break from gear club 1+2 along with Mario kart, just what the switch needed. Bonus- right now it’s £34 (uk) even better 🤗
I would say this. When you are concentrating on the ra e you wont notice it. When watching a video and someone else play then yes i agree. But the game requires such concentration that it didn't bother me personally.

I already knew the game wasnt perfect (because of the PS4/XBox One reviews) but was looking for a Switch review to know how the port was. Now it's one my christmas list (because i just bought SSBU and found Pokemon let's go with the poke ball this week-end.. and couldn't resist :-p) As usual Thanks SwitchWatch Team for the reviews... The game bombed on other consoles, people were really harsh, I like to go into all game reviews cold but it's impossible when games come out on other consoles as they are games I am as a consumer interested in myself. Thing is I disagree with many of those reviews because this game is actually a fun game which holds your attention. Thanks for the comment.

Hey Mark thanks buddy, Yea I think those pics are from the press pack which was from PC not the Switch that's for sure man as they don't match but I think many publishers do this to show the game in it's best light although I am not condoning it.
Dirt 2 is my favorite, and 3 was great too. Sadly Dirt 4 lost its magic IMO. I didn't even finish it. I love Codemaster racers from last generation. So im going to wait for Grid Autosport for the Switch. Is not rally, but a lot of fun.
Review much appreciated as always.. It was like trying to find a needle in a haystack to watch an actual proper review of this game.. I should have known you guys would do it perfectly (I wish you were at the top of the youtube search results so i didn't click 20 junk "reviews"). Anyway, i just don't see how a rally game can work without analog acceleration control and I keep hoping someone will release a racing game with the right stick as an option for accel/braking, since the switch has no analog triggers. I am certain after a few minutes anyone could get used to it. Still no good car racer on switch. I have the first gear club and I hated it enough to never get the second.. Arcade and fun racing are covered, but we need some proper racing games with analog control, and it's completely possible to do, yet no one seems to want to release one with that control method even as an option.
@@SwitchWatch I have faith that they are going to put effort into the port. I seriously think companies can see that if they make the effort it will sell on the switch. So I do believe ports have that going for it. Also even though it has nothing to do with racing.....MORTAL KOMBAT 11 😊
How does the acceleration feel? I've played the game a lot on PC and I tend to control the drifts with careful, analog accelerator work, so I'm wondering how that was transferred over to Switch's digital brake/accel.
Feels really good and the analog workd very well on Switch. Im not sure how precise it is compared to PC as not had the pleasure that platform. You thinking of double dipping?

Looks cool my birthday is feb 1 and would like a racing game for switch i have this one in mind but there is also gear club 2 witch racing game is better i tryed looking up v-rally 4 vs gear club 2 but didnt really find anything
Sorry for the late reply, I was going to say my option would be V Rally over Gear Club 2 but that's my personal opinion. Depends on the kinds of racing games you prefer.

Fun fact about this game. In the mean time, it seems, the developers stopped the network features of this game. Which ends as a big problem with game crashes. No joke, the game is crashing so often, that you land in the Switch menu and have to start it again. I found out, that this issue can be fixed with turning off the internet connection of the Switch console. If done, the game isn't trying the whole time, to build an internet connection. So the game stopped crashing. Really ugly, that this wasn't fixed by the developers. I guess the last patch is pretty old by now.
Great review that encapsulates why the game is so captivating! I picked it up at launch, and I too have been finding it hard to put down. It might not be the most polished, or most well rounded rally game available, but it definitely nails the rally courses with characteristic handling and great course design. The backdrops are gorgeous but there’s a real sense of place to each level - even the “random” courses take place within the same locations, just with different routes around them. My only real complaint is the resolution in handheld mode can get very blurry in the Rally Cross events. Hopefully a future Switch model will improve things - porting a 30fps PS4/XBO game was always going to be a challenge and it’s impressive what the developers have achieved here. Also, like many other Switch games, online leaderboard ranks are only recorded if you’re connected to the server when you obtain them, which is annoying when you’re trying to dethrone the author of this video ;)

QUESTION: You can set when the steering responds to your inputs? Ok. How precise can you get? How much input lag can you reduce? Because comfort, performance, and responsiveness is what's gonna dictate the next driving game I get. Gear Club Unlimited destroyed my trust in going into these types of games blind.
Those headlight effects are very odd. I wonder if the devs have ever driven a car at night. It looks like someone is holding two torches and moving their arms apart as the road undulates. Nice review though, I don't even own a Switch but I like watching your unbiased videos.

In a world where we are worldwide, I don't get these delays. Thing is you can just set up a UK eshop account and buy it now. We do the same when games come out in your region first and is really easy to do. Just need a different email address and say that you are based in the UK. You then get access to the eshop here. If you require a guide let me know. Cheers

I think both are different enough to not fight for the same public, one is focused on rally (haha obviously) and the other is much more arcade and focused on "normal" cars. If GCU2 were better priced, I'll get both.
I'm not a fan of proper rally racing games, I prefer those arcadey ones like Sega Rally and Gravel. But I do love the variety of locations and cars used!
I dont know, after playing nfs on wii u years ago I have those kind of overrall product expections for a ns racing game, at most I'd pay 15 or maybe 20dll for this since we have fast rmx, a 20dll game that really shines
Loving this game so far , mainly going for the leaderboards on the quick race menu , plays relly well and smoothly , impressed also that there was no day one memory thirsty download that we normally see on these type of games.
Finally, a place where this game got a fitting review. I don't get it, why this was so destroyed. It's good, the tracks are beautiful, the cars controls are also good. And it really looks and runs ok on Switch, I really played worse stuff. I guess this was patched after launch.

Honestly, Xtreme-khana and Rallycross are my favorites, the latter I suffered through because the first RX car you get is awful. Rally I don’t mind, buggies I agree with you, they’re just not it at all… don’t have an opinion on hill climb yet.
My biggest grip so far from the footage is the shadows popping out of nowhere, hopefully that's something fixable or make it less noticeable with an update. That's an issue with Switch, many games don't get important updates, see the first Gear Club, it has issues with sound and some glitches but never got patched (not even once).
god as terrible as the handling is in this game, the map design is amazing and the randomly generated courses are fun. still one of my favorite games. my brother has a switch, I'm gonna try to convince him to get it so he can feel the same pain i did
This game does look sort of average tbh... Long-gone are the days of V-rally on PS and N64 methinks. I personally want a Blur game on the Switch. That was fire
🎵 it's like chasing shadows and I'm not talking about a time-trial, sort your render-distance out N64 love child 🎵 For real though, I can not justify spending £45 on a game that was ported by a development team that couldn't be bothered to bake the shadows in on areas of the track that struggle doing it dynamically.
man that's such a tough question as I have differing game favs for differing moods and situations. If I had to pick just the one and the one I have played the most I really love Hollow Knight.

Which section of the video are you talking about buddy? If it's the normal rally sections then the game runs smooth but on the races then it dips badly.

You can change the menu music to be instrumental only. Go to the pause menu and choose "instrumental music" from the sound options.
Yes you can but still would have been nice to have more than one track. I turned it off.

The headlight look really strange, like someone is using 2 flashlights.

That frame rate during the buggy footage is shocking. Seems having multiple cars on screen tanks the frame rate.
Yup its terrible, as insaid in the review performance on the races takes a dip. Lucky its not affected in other parts of the game

Another pro you missed -random track generator. Fcking awesome feature.
Con- no damage modelling other than lights going out and engine smoke.

This game is tough even at 60% AI difficulty, but im loving it so far
It really is not easy but I guess that's why I love it! as it is a great challenge
It is a hard game but it's good as so many racing games are so easy nowadays.

I think both are different enough to not fight for the same public, one is focused on rally (haha obviously) and the other is much more arcade and focused on "normal" cars.
If GCU2 were better priced, I'll get both.

I'm not a fan of proper rally racing games, I prefer those arcadey ones like Sega Rally and Gravel.
But I do love the variety of locations and cars used!

I dont know, after playing nfs on wii u years ago I have those kind of overrall product expections for a ns racing game, at most I'd pay 15 or maybe 20dll for this since we have fast rmx, a 20dll game that really shines

Loving this game so far , mainly going for the leaderboards on the quick race menu , plays relly well and smoothly , impressed also that there was no day one memory thirsty download that we normally see on these type of games.

Finally, a place where this game got a fitting review.
I don't get it, why this was so destroyed. It's good, the tracks are beautiful, the cars controls are also good. And it really looks and runs ok on Switch, I really played worse stuff. I guess this was patched after launch.

Honestly, Xtreme-khana and Rallycross are my favorites, the latter I suffered through because the first RX car you get is awful. Rally I don’t mind, buggies I agree with you, they’re just not it at all… don’t have an opinion on hill climb yet.
My biggest grip so far from the footage is the shadows popping out of nowhere, hopefully that's something fixable or make it less noticeable with an update.
That's an issue with Switch, many games don't get important updates, see the first Gear Club, it has issues with sound and some glitches but never got patched (not even once).
god as terrible as the handling is in this game, the map design is amazing and the randomly generated courses are fun. still one of my favorite games. my brother has a switch, I'm gonna try to convince him to get it so he can feel the same pain i did
This game does look sort of average tbh... Long-gone are the days of V-rally on PS and N64 methinks.

🎵 it's like chasing shadows and I'm not talking about a time-trial, sort your render-distance out N64 love child 🎵
For real though, I can not justify spending £45 on a game that was ported by a development team that couldn't be bothered to bake the shadows in on areas of the track that struggle doing it dynamically.

man that's such a tough question as I have differing game favs for differing moods and situations. If I had to pick just the one and the one I have played the most I really love Hollow Knight.

Which section of the video are you talking about buddy? If it's the normal rally sections then the game runs smooth but on the races then it dips badly.
I commented when the buggy section was being shown! Horrible

@@SwitchWatch there's another review for the switch version on youtube and the reviewer shows footage of the handheld mode and it has a lot of blur, on a sub 720p resolution. can you confirm this?
