- CelebHeights visitor GSuave measures almost 5ft 11 with a Can, but on his new Stadiometer he's barely over 5ft 10 - 30 minutes out of bed!!!
Is Greg measuring wrong or is the Stadiometer giving a half inch error???
I also own a Seca 213, so let's see if it really gives an error.
Either Greg Lurik has measured his height wrong all these years in his bathroom (maybe wall/floor slanted) or the Stadiometer really is wonky and is knocking off a massive half an inch from his true height!
What's your opinion on The Greg Lurik Height mystery! Could he be the same height as his nemesis, Bobby Papoutsis?

I know many “5’11” guys who would be lucky to see the 5’10 mark on the stadiometer.
I know many “6 ft” guys who would be lucky to see the 5’9 mark on the stadiometer.
I have two friends one who claims to be 6 feet tall and another 5'11. they both had 5'10 on my stadiometer 😂

Hey Rob, I own a hopkins stadiometer and tested it with measuring tape and it was accurate. They probably fixed that 2mm or 3mm whatever it was, ever since you owned one of them! I believe it is better and more solidly accurate than the seca 213! 👍
The plastic on the 213 feels sturdy, I've had no issues with the 2000 measurements I've done on it 😄
The old Leicester I had (and still do) was from 2008. I'd expect at some stage they would have tried to sort the small error.

0.4-5” difference is not that much but could very much make a difference for some people in gauging height. I would say Greg should get a physical to clarify this discrepancy. Doctors who are wrong about height measurements are rare.
Had a doctor who was wrong about my measurement, got measured at 184.5cm by one doctor then remeasured at 186cm by a different doctor with a different stadiometer, the problem was the first doctor was so small she couldnt properly see the numbers neither could she reached the top of my head.
186 cm is a solid and tall height!

Can i ask u btw Rob, when you are let's say 5'8.25 at the time at the Stadio and try to look in the mirror with the tapemeasure beside, don't you get the same height? Or does it look a bit different from that perspective? I find that the most accurate method seems to be looking at the tape and turning my head to the right to see what the figure is in the mirror.
I have actually considered if measurements at the police station when renewing you're passport etc are the most accurate, because i guess they use some kinda laser to mm a ccuracy there.

I stand sideways from the mirror and not facing towards it. I find i get pretty close to my real height personally.
It probably makes you look shorter due to the angle. With back to the wall I'm 5'10, but found out I'm supposed to be facing the wall free standing and I get about 5'11. You gotta catch the top of your head straight on. In the mirror with tape measure it looks anywhere from 5'10.5-5'11. I'm still curious what an accurate stadiometer measurement for me would be but all evidence points towards me being 180.
Is this the same Greg who would spam General Height chat for years? I remember arguing with him as he said he rounded up to 5'11" from 5'10.5". Would always argue with some lad from Greece.

Rob, do you think gym stadiometers are accurate? For me it is not accurate because I got measured 3 inches under my actual height (5’10). It was an electric one.
They are used a lot...and these kind of situations may create a bigger error than somebody measuring themselves at home.

It happens sometimes. A friend of mine is flat 6'(183cm ) at midday and we measured him at the gym stadiometer and it measured 180cm. Moreover when I personally measured him he was a bit over 183cm maybe because of my eye level. Whereas another friend of mine claims he is 6'1" or sometimes 6'2" whereas he is no more than 5'11 1/2. Don't know why people lie about their height.
@Vishal R Ya, there was a laser one at the mall outside Gnc a couple decades ago that measured three to four inches shorter (depending on whether u stood facing it or with back to it).

I commented on this video with my height stats a couple of months ago, but a month ago i realised I was under measuring myself with the aerosol can and tape measurer, I am now 181.5-182cm in the morning, 180-180.5cm in the afternoon and I'm 179.5-180cm in the evening to near bedtime.

@umbreo i am 5' 11" bare footed since i was age 18. And over the years i have tried those stadiometers becouse they were in a few shops i was in, and to me they dont get the right height. Most are about half an inch shorter, maybe thats becouse of the way there measuring them with different tape measures. As some tapes will say 5'11" but really its half an inch higher or shorter than its really meant to be, as they do this so the measure is supposed to stick out more. So a guy at 6'2" will maybe show at 6' 1" 07. Thats 6ft1" and a half. And they machines you stand on can be right but can be wrong. For your height and body weight. When there wrong there way wrong by inches, i was 5' 9" thats 2 inches shorter. I know a guy who is 6ft and he was 5ft 10" inches.
And this is the same guy who thinks I’m lying about my height…

He also claimed to be 5'11.5. He claimed to be 6'0 on Tinder when he's 5'9-5'10. If he's 5'9, that makes this more surprising. I'm not surprised that he's 5'10 because he always tried to make himself look than taller than he is. That explains why he always got measured with shoes on at the doctor's office. He also admitted to putting insoles in his shoes before.

Should I use a construction steel tape or the soft flexible ones made for sewing? I get different measurements from both.
I would use metal tape measure for measuring your height.
I'd use construction steel tapes. The flexible ones won't give you an accurate representation of your height.
Yea metal ones are better, sailor tapes u need to stretch them and make them flat which could increase margin of error

maybe the thing that touches the head is not long enough and makes him have to lean a bit forward to actually touch his head (especially the top of his head) which would make him lose a couple of mm .
Leaning forward (and not rising slightly with heels) might knock a mm or 2 off, but it takes a fairly decent lean forward to reduce height by like 1/4 or 1/3rd of an inch.

Every stadiometer measures at different measurements. So sum stadiometers will measure u at 5’10 and others will measure u at 5’9 or 5’8
Ya what's up with inaccurate stadiometers? I've seen stadiometers at health club scales measure 2 or 3 inches shorter, and even hospitals 5 inches shorter.
Stadiometers are the best and easiest measurement if they’re calibrated and used perfectly.. most can be off by 2-3mm

Some height measuring devices really do undermeasure by an inch though. Not sure about stadiometer though. Recently met a 6 ft 3 man who was measured as 6 foot in the hospital. Absolute joke. He is my friend and I measured him with a tape measure and he was 191 cm.
most can't be bothered.. my brother was measured for his passport at 198cm with shoes on... but barefoot he's like 192cm because he wears these size 13 air max shoes..
At least it wasn't as bad as the hospital I went to--measured u 5 inches shorter. They really need to get their heads outta their butt and get an accurate stadiometer. How is a drs stadiometer accurate, but a hospital way off? Very strange.
That's funny, one hospital had me at 5'11 bare foot, then a year later, at a different hospital, I was measured at 6'1 barefoot. So I magically grew 2 inches taller.

Depends how you look in person or with others, but with those stats 5ft 10.75 is a possible listing

5’10 ¾ is ur celebheights listing. If i were u I’d just claim 5’11, although 2.5cm shrinkage is quite a bit
@@diversitydeliverer7094 It’s not uncommon, definitely more than most people (1.6-2cm), but it’s normal depending on ur posture, proportions and daily activity
Does it matter how I tilt my head? Shouldn't it be the same height regardless?
Small tilts up/down aren't really going to change things...BIG tilts like 1.5-2 inches might effect a measurement a small fraction.

Hi Rob, from what you saw, do you think the Stadiometer was calibrated correctly? He says that his eyelevel there is 5'4.75, while with the tape around 5'6.
There's not really much to do apart from slot it together, which takes a minute, but like I say, GSuave should test it different rooms and use the tape measure against it and see if there's a true error of half an inch.
Do you lose a fraction if tapping down harder at you're own current stadio?
His eye level is under 5'6, its just about 5'5
@@RobPaul An error that big either means he didn't set it up properly or his floors/walls are way off-level. It's not enough to check with a measuring tape, I would check with a level also to ensure the stadiometer is not off-centred or anything. But even if that's the case, it also means he's not as tall as he says he is. Let's think about it, half an inch extra one hour out of bed would put him at 5'10.5, but he's still going to lose another 1/4 throughout the day landing him at 5'10.25 instead of the 5'10 3/8s that he says he is.

Hi rob, I'm very struggling to find a stadiometer in my country. I literally made a tour among all doctors, hospitals, GYM's and pharmacies.but there is not fkn anything in those. Everyone lies about his height in here and no one has any idea how to measure his height in a properly way. And I can't afford to buy one as our economy is too bad. How can I know my height truely? Is there any way you know to get it?

I have an issue. The new measuring tape I purchased claims to put my height at 5’5”(166cm), even though my friends obviously see and know that I am 5’7”(171cm). Every other measuring tool different from this one also all put my height at 5’7”. Is there anything wrong with the measuring tape? Do I need a refund?
Either ur measuring with it wrong or ur not as tall as u think u are. Use a ruler and check if the measuring tape marks line up with the ruler

I’m 5’10.5 but I claim 5’11 which is not a big deal. I actually have long legs short torso long neck & a long head. I have long arms too and I been told I look 6ft. But I was measured at 5’10.5 barefoot around early afternoon.
@@cripbk2147 Rounding is fine, but claiming a height a couple inches taller than ur actual height is different. Like 5'9 claiming 5'11-6'0, or 5'10 claiming 6'0.

Did Dennis Rodman actually had a growth spurt at age 20?
Between the ages of 19-20, Rodman grew 8 full inches from 5'11 to 6'7”. Not as crazy as David Robinson though. Robinson went from 5'9" to 6'7" in just 1 year (jr & sr yr of high school)! When in college, he grew another 6 inches for his final height of 7'1".

Hey Rob, I have a question about indicating height through shoulder level. Sometimes people have long or thick hair so it’s hard to gauge where the tip of their head is. That’s why I sometimes use shoulder level to help myself visualize heights gaps, especially larger ones. However, here’s the problem:
I get very inconsistent results. For example, I stand at around 6’2 I believe (still growing though) and my mother is roughly 5’4. This is a ten inch height gap in which my mother is a smidgen below my shoulders.
Now consider what I just stated. I’ll use my uncle as an example to expand on this point. It is a general consensus within my family that my uncle is 6’1.5 or so. When he stands with my mother, he seems to be barely a head taller (granted, he has a slightly bigger head than most) but nonetheless my mother stands quite a bit above his shoulders. This confuses me because he’s supposed to be only .5 of an inch shorter than I am. Which I certainly believe, because when I stand next to him the tips of our heads seem to be at a very similar place but my shoulders are noticeably higher. It’s strange.
Anyways, am I taller than I think, is my mother shorter than she claims (doubt this because I remember being 5’2 as a younger child and my mother being taller than me), or is my uncle shorter than he claims?
I just wanted to check with you whether shoulder level is a reliable indicator in general.
Bruh no. I’m 6’2 and I have a long ass neck. Someone who is also 6’2 can have a short neck. That would make him taller by shoulder height but the same height with head. A better idea is to tap the head down at the highest point, typically the middle or slightly behind the me middle of the head
So basically no shoulder height isn’t a reliable indicator of height. It can be off by 3 inches depending on neck and head size
Oh okay thanks for the insight. The tip of the head is the only reliable point, even all the way up at eye level may be inconsistent because of forehead size and perceived hair length.
no you can't really guess people's height from shoulder level, some have high shoulder and some don't, depends on meck length or how they positioned their shoulder, if they erect the shoulder, it can made them look more imposing, they would seems to have a tall and broad shoulder, and vice versa

He measured 5'9 7/8" just a few minutes out of bed. At first it showed 5'10 1/8" but when he pushed the rod further down it showed just under 5'10". He could be 5'9 1/4" or 5'9 1/2" mid afternoon if this stadiometer isn't flawed.
I checked on CelebHeights and Rob said this is the same model stadiometer that he uses, and he says it's accurate or so close to accurate that minor errors are negligible. It means that Greg cannot get away with claiming the stadiometer is giving a half-an-inch error.
The rod was a bit loose so it pushed down slightly

2.) I've been measured on stadiometers that were inaccurate, measuring 2"-3" shorter (health clubs). Even the hospital, 5" shorter! WTF?! Why is this? 17 hash marks per inch instead of 16?
Also, my head didn't touch the ceiling of an older small camp trailer I used to have that was the same height from the floor(woulda had to wear elevator shoes and maybe stand on tiptoe to touch the ceiling), but (using my hand) I could see it measured evenly across to my head. *Weird*!

There will be some broken or old and abused stadiometers out there, mis-measuring people. Also, human error is a reason some folk get wrong figures read out or written down on their file.
Never seen seca 286 but at £2000 it should be measuring folk pretty accurately
It's more likely that he's in denial. He's probably exactly the same as Bobby.
Not really, his stadiometer possibly was a dodgy model where the rod is looser than usual, plus there is around 1mm error usually so he already undermeaures due to the possible misprint in the scale

@@acutedynamo293 I don't know abouts that. At the same time, when Greg does wall measurements, the floor could be slightly elevated and adding a half inch extra. If Greg uses tape measure and holds it against the stadiometer it should be even. Big Rob has illustrated this with the exact same model. Big Rob obviously is leaning towards Greg being 5'9 3/4", same as Matt Damon.
@@JC12689 ive tried rising my feet as if the floor were tilted just added 3mm, no way a slightly tilted floor can add 2.5 cm.

@@PT-yn8fe i think at 15.5 or 16 and he is now 20, at 17 he was 5'11.5 from being 5'6 and grew to near 6'1 in 2 years, i dont think he is still growing now,

@@acutedynamo293 everyone grows at their own time, and if you are a late bloomer there are good chances of growing til 20-23, also if you measure yourself everyday you will notice little to no difference which may seem like you're barely growing, the truth is during a growth spurt, it takes atleast a few months(3-8) to notice a difference and if you do, then you are in a growth spurt and would likely last a year or two, after it, you still grow but slowly in years.

@@acutedynamo293 yo bro I have some bad news. You can search this up yourself. A older sibling is generally 1-2 inches taller than the younger sibling at their adult height. It’s quite rare to see a younger sibling taller than their older sibling. Although it could happen.

I’m a bit worried now. I measure with a shaming foam can and my measurements are 177 in morning, 175 at lowest and 175.7 at night. I bet if I get measured at my local chemist I’ll find out I’m like 174 lol. I think my measuring is pretty accurate on my bathroom floor, it’s really flat and I think it’s correct.

Height is a range and usually we lose from 1 to 2 cm from early morning to late night and the taller we are the more we lose

Do u lift heavy weights? That may explain it. Try sitting down instead of standing up when lifting, cuz that's a lot of pressure on the spine. Also hanging may stretch out the spine more (or help recover lost height) than merely sleeping.

I am around 6 myself and wouldn't mind being an inch shorter at 5-11. I think I look kinda lanky with my legs at my current height. Lol
The 6’1-6’4 range is a very attractive height for men…
For women it is 5’7-5’10…

@@hlk7785 My eye level is 167 but sometimes I measure (at night) couple months ago I was 175cm in the afternoon never done any posture corection. and then a month later was 173.2 afternoon I was like did I thrink maybe I measured incorrectly? then I did some posture recorrecting now comfortably 176.5 in the morning 175 in the night whats going on am I 5'9 flat or 5'8 1/2 - 3/4 its getting to me.

The metal one (black) I don't think is the best, the measuring part becomes flimsy with repeated use over time. The white free standing Height Rod looks decent from what I can tell from the photos.

I’m just over 6 in the morning and 5’11.5 after like a 12 hour day. I feel I’m cheating myself if I claim 5’11 so I say I’m exactly 6’ but even that feels like I’m lying so I officially have the most cursed height imaginable 💀
