Exactly the question I had this morning. Trying to explain how silly it is to not be able to fly just because of the airspace extends 10 miles out. But we can't get leniency due to ignorance. Everyone needs to know the rules and talk to FAA like a squeaky wheel so they make a blanket waiver.

Congrats on #500! I have encountered this issue in Arkansas as well. The FAA has put us in the situation of having to choose whether to risk flying those operations or not, and that affects peoples ability to earn a living in order to put food on the table. It is totally ridiculous that they haven't created a realistic solution yet for those of us who are trying to comply with the rules

That issue in Africa was shown NOT to be a drone strike, but a materials failure.

I had a dji phantom before the 333 started. As soon as it started, I just sold my drone to a hobby user and never used the footage in productions since. The 333 was just ridiculous to get, and I didnt want to risk a fine. I even called and talked with Jeff Antonelli about getting one, but never did. Now, I just got my part 107 this week, but to fly in my two local class E to surface very rural areas having to apply and wait is nuts. At least I can in the class G. It's so tough seeing other people flying in these exact air spaces, some commercially. Argh...

I asked FSDO in Utah and he said they don't deal with UAV's, totally brushed me off and said he didn't know anything.

Is the blanket waiver good for a prolonged period of time or indefinately? Otherwise I am not sure what good it would do to apply for one if it takes even 2 weeks. 2 weeks in the Real Estate market is too long.

My first waiver took 45 days to be approved. Better than the anticipated 90 but still too long for any practical purpose.

Was this a waiver to fly for a set time or day? Or does it cover you for the year or longer?

This was a waiver for an area of Class D and Class E airspace. I'm flying for a specific event so I only requested a week long waiver. 45 days later, I got a call from the FAA asking if my requested height could be reduced to 200' from 250'. I said "Sure" and they said ok we' will approve and process this right now. Received the waiver about 30 mins later.

So just to be clear, even if i have my 107, i still need to contact ATC and get a waiver to fly for commercial use? which could take months to get?

There is no airport near my house but there are 6 helipads near my house. I am not sure how to get phone number of everyone. I found 3 ph# of three of them but most of them do not pick phone for the first time. What do i do?

Interesting you guys in the US can't fly in class D airspace. In the UK as long as your drone is sub 7 kilo in weight you can.

Paul is a "real pilot". But says helicopter pilots need to read the regs and say we are restricted to 500 feet. Ummm NOPE. Keep reading pauly. Down below that it says except helicopters. No altitude restrictions for helicopters under Part 91 ops.
But you were refeeeing to a police helicopter which is under special use. Either way it's still EXCEPT helicopters for them / 91 ops.
Part 135 there is. 300 feet day. 500 night.
When will Paul post his apology? Never.

I'm new to aviation and have wondered if Paul actually knows what he is talking about and what an experienced pilot's opinion is of him. I would like to see him in a debate over such a subject with a current helicopter pilot.
