There was something that was brought up here that was really true. When Myke (I believe) said the album from start to finish sounds like dance even with the rap songs is true and here's why. The whole album had an electronic sound. The rap songs had electronic beats that's how I'm able to dance from Roman Holiday to Automatic. It's very high energy. The only songs I could sit down to and not do much was when she started doing the pop-R&B ballads like Young Forever, Fire Burns, Marilyn Monroe and Gun Shot. That I totally agree on. Now when the girl mentioned Last Chance with Natasha Bedingfield a line in that song came to my head she said something about "switched up the flow but it's still right, go back to that yea I still might, Ima just do me till it feel right" I remember her saying that everything she said she would do in her career she did. In Freedom she said "Did I really prophesied everything I do" when you look back at her interviews before her debut was even thought of she said she was going to mix hip-hop,pop and rock into her music. A lot of people may not have been payin attention but she definitely hinted where she was going to take her artistry. Then she dropped The Re-Up and she was sure going in a right direction.
what y'all don't like about Nicki Minaj makes her who she is. So while I don't like it either. I get her, she's doing what she made herself rich and famous with. I don't expect her to change, nor do I care for her to change. I don't think her presence in hip-hop is a negative one at all. So hey, keep warming people up to rap who otherwise wouldn't listen it. It's not about what you start out listening to in a genre, your taste will evolve into more in depth material in that field.
I'm glad Marjorie was there as someone who (it seems) had been following Nicki's career pretty closely up to that point, to get a perspective on how she'd changed or stayed the same.
Beezy the man, his comment and attitude at the end 15:33 is wicked. This is the amount of time that should of been spent on reviewing this album. Review REKS new album when it drops, some ACTUAL hip hop music. Peace
Myke, Illmaculate's Skrill Talk album is droppin' on the 17th of this month. you should convince the guys to listen and review it. you said you liked Sandpeople on another video when I mentioned Sapient. It'd be really cool if you guys reviewed it, or if just you reviewed it on the website.
in fact man just thinking about it i would like to see you guys discuss weather or not there should be separate charts for different variations of hip hop or weather they should go through and put people like pitt bull in different categories. it would definitely change how people view certain albums. shit maybe tyga wouldn't piss me off so much if i wasn't forced to think of him as the same genera as KRS One. And Maybe people wouldn't have slept on Camp by Gambino so hard. just a thought.
@mykectown I love how you don't pull punches on something that you think is good or terrible. I feel that that kind of criticism/praise is needed a lot in Hip-Hop music, especially nowadays.
@deadendhiphop A great example of an experimental Hip-Hop album is Aquemini by Outkast. That is the proper way to make an experimental Hip-Hop album. They used synthesizers, but didn't totally rely on them to make their beats.
I know this is old af but still, i hate when fans of other genres bash pop so bluntly as if its all the same. They swear they know music but they dont. Lady Gaga doesnt sound like Katy Perry yet they have no clue and hate anyway. That guy needed a slap fr
After previewing the album, im actually happy because wht Nicki did was make it like u want her to be the only women mc to listen to and forget the other hungry lady mcs. So i can't wait for a lady mc to come and blow her off her "rap" throne. Cause even if she crossed over she still considered the only female mc. So this is the perfect opportunity and time to get new and better female rappers. Thank you Nicki
At the end of the day it all boils down to if a rap artist is in love with the money or hip-hop. Most of the mainstream artist are in it for the money so most just settle for being mediocre.
U can't say that something is garbage just because you don't prefer that type of music. As said by "Kinge" he cannot give an adequate critique because he does not listen to those other genre's of music continuously. He made a valid point, and being that deadend Hip-Hop critiques only Hip-Hop, the other genre's were of course going to be looked at in a negative connotation.
Pink Friday was most definitely a step in the direction of this. what she did with Pink Friday is no different from what B.o.B did with Adventures of Bobby Ray or what Wiz Khalifa did with Rolling Papers. they all decided to make pop rap, but on Pink Friday Nicki took it too a whole different level of Pop.....you could see the writing on the wall with her and hip hop. she has been moving in this direction for a few years now. I would not be surprised at all if her next album was entirely pop.
I respect musical tastes so much. Maybe hater is not the word that I needed for them. But yes, there are a lot of people insulting Nicki's music in her own music videos, they are haters. There's a lot.
I guess I'm with the woman on this one because everybody tearing this album apart espically Myke lol but I respect their opinions, I love pop musics so I enjoy this album when 1st listen, Pink Friday is better than this album tbh, I agree with Beezy that Nicki say I'll give you 1st half of Pink Friday Pt. 2 and the 2nd half of me in all pop commercial songs
She is from Queens, NY. She may have shed the influence it had on her, she may not look like someone from Queens to you, but that doesn't change a thing. That's just where she's from (in the US anyway).
I listened to this whole album before ya'll reviewed it and came to a conclusion that's a combination of Kinge's and Feefo's. She tried to mix the two styles in a half and half album but it wasn't done well. Now I agree that these were all club songs, but it was rap club then pop club. I can only see this as a business move of an album, because the pop club portion is what will push Nicki over the edge. I forsee Hip Pop being a market that she'll be a queen of for a while, seeing as she...
i respect marjories opinions. even though she is a fan of nicki i can tell she is very intelligent and just likes the MUSIC. VERY ATTRACTIVE WOMAN, marjorie.
great review as for nicki minaj i feel she needs to stay in the underground world she was taken more serious as an strong rap artist if you ask me but of course that's my personal opinion because as soon as she became mainstream her whole vibe changed which is such ashame i am quite sure she is capable of so much more in the rap music industry which seems to be always getting viewed as an epic fail nowdays and i think she needs to stay in a place that present her as a real refine hip hop artist.
"Jesus doesn't even like her music". Lmao! C-town is hilarious. I didn't follow Nicki as an underground artist so I appreciate Marjorie's perspective to shed a bit more light on the comparisons. I was pleasantly surprised with Pink Friday and I really liked it but I can't get with Roman Reloaded. It's just 'eh'. I'm all for artists stepping outside the box and changing lanes as Feefo said but I'm with the guys in that I respect it but don't love it.
Ha! We did let her speak. No one cut her off or edited her out. You're upset that we didn't give YOUR opinion of the album. That's why you liked her opinion because, I assume, it's closer to yours (which is a lame way to criticize anything). And if you interpreted "pretty genuinely a lil mad" (which BTW makes no sense) from this review, then I don't know what to tell you. No one was mad (if that wasn't clear from the laughing). Either way, I'll pass on the E & your criticism of my criticisms.
Sales = reception. We do agree, right? "Turn Me On" (available on the delux edition of Roman Reloaded) sold a lot and is currently in the top 10 billboard charts. Almost every song that is number 1-10 on the billboard charts sales a lot. "Beez In The Trap" is at number 51 or something. There is no such thing as a "pop" song so Starships is more like electro-hop mixed with house or something. I would have preferred to hear Katy Perry doing the vocals on Starships instead of Nicki.
"If I want a message I don't go to music I go to church or school." Well there's your problem. This is how we keep getting subpar, trashy fucking albums because of people with this exact mindset.
I first Nicki off the Kanye album and i thought shit like she can spit. But after that she dramatically changed her style and started singing too. The songs off Pink Friday and her collab with Madonna ultimately changed her into a pop icon rather a hip hop. People wanted to see pop-Minaj rather than a hip hop one (her outfit she wore in the grammy's just proves that). She made this debauchery solely for the radio and for the mainstream pop fans.
yea, but i coulda swore in one of their older videos someone said it didnt even have to be new music. so yeah id love to see it to which is why im tryin
I can see why people listen to her. I mean, she's not terrible. She has charisma and personality on the mic which counts the most. I listen to 2chainz and Meek Mill, but I also won't go overboard when rating their talent. If her verses were more on the "Monster" level then she wouldn't be trashed as much as she does, imo.
Honest Expression really stuck with me in how I should view the commercial industry when I was younger. But now, today's mainstream is all over the place.
Frank Sinatra, Ellington, Armstrong, Beethoven, LIstz, were also once pop music so pop is not really a genre, just a title. And I agree. I've finally listened to Nicki Minaj's two albums and I wanted to turn it off so bad. lol Her two albums together has about 5 listenable songs from start to finish. That's about it though.
They said exactly what I be sayin bout flo rida n pitbull they are pop artist they no longer do hip hop.Just cuz u rhyme don't mean shit its the MUSICAL SOUND that is different n what type of audience the music is directed towards u know the difference between a clear cut pop record n hip hop records alotta the beats sound the same but the style of music is completely different.Nicki image n music was capable of being pop n it has turned into that flo rida low song was some pop shit n eventually he switched to the pop side I thought he was done but he actually went 100% pop.
Katy Perry IS a great artist because she writes a lot of her own material and her albums are great pop records. I bet you never even listened to most of the people you named before? There albums I mean. How are you going to judge an artist by their singles? The Backstreet boys are a great group vocally. Nsync I never listened to. Big daddy kane made a song that became popular. Which makes it POPULAR music. Which makes him a POP artist. Get over it.
You ask why I assume you like this. 1. You're on here complaining. 2. You're calling me names over an obvious joke so it implies you're a little emotionally invested. 3. You claim Marjorie had the only unbiased opinion even though that's clearly incorrect. She already likes Nicki and was going to defend her regardless. If I'm wrong and you don't like it, that's fine. But I just don't get your gripes. Was it the joke about the mustached men? Fine. Barefaced men in full jeans like it, too. Happy?
In Nikki's interview with The Breakfast Club, she says (not quoting) that this is not hip-hop album. I think a interesting question about Nikki is she creating a new genre called "hip-pop" or she is just mimicking this Katy Perry, Lady Gaga formula to sell records.
i am waiting for Azealia Banks, she used an electronic beat in her main hit 212 and that shit ended up dope as fuck, also i think everyone i have heard in "young money" is terrible.
the reason why nicki chose gaga over hova...is simple gaga pays way better for the female lane. let's face it so few hip hop artist (regardless of gender) will get to the upper echelon of the hovas, diddys, 50s, russells however the lane on that pop side showed it is easy (thanks to BEP) to do a successful crossover and keep part of the hip hop base. so, instead of swimming in the lyrical end (i think nicki is better lyrically then what her studio work shows) she goes performance art...barbie.
her most popular song (superbass) was the most popish song on her album. I knew after the success of that record, she was going to go the pop rout. I mean look on youtube, she has 2 5 year olds becoming internet phenomenons just singing that record. then you see them on ellen degenrous where they get to meat her. I knew from then on that pop was going to be her rout. she wants to be considered amongst the pop heavy weights.
You can't call this hip-hop, you can't call this pop, so you call it bullshit because you can't define it. That sucks. She is a fucking genius for creating such an experimental album that goes beyond all the stereotypes in hip-hop and pop culture. She created an innovoative work, no one can't deny that. So If all you haters can't see this album with the dimension that it contains, then obviously it's gonna be like trash. You need to understand what the fuck you're listen to.
They were saying just off of Pink Friday (nothing else) that they could see she was going to make a pop album. I don't buy that. But that's just me. If everyone else saw it, cool. I'll take being slow when it comes to Nicki Minaj.
This is a little off-topic regarding this video, but I'm not gonna lie, I actually enjoyed "The Pinkprint." I thought it was really cool how she catered more to a hardcore Hip-Hop audience as opposed to a more mainstream listener/Hip-POP audience like she did with this album. Some tracks were kinda meh, but it definitely has a more serious, hardcore Hip-Hop tone to it.
true but he gives credit where it's due. Check out their review of El-P's Cancer 4 Cure. He took over the whole video talking bout each track like he's a kid in a candy store, ya dig
I liked the female opinion. She sound more open minded than everyone else. The flamboyant male is angry because he doesn't know how to dance. Therefore, won't be able to dance on the other half of the album.
I wanna see you guys review Bloodthirst or Evisceration Plague by Cannibal Corpse. Even though this is Deadendhiphop, I just wanna see a 10 min conversation on it just to see what you all would say.
I honestly don't listen to much new metal. Most of what I like is older and the bands have all broken up. Too much of the new shit either sounds like hardcore or the band is trying to be as technical as possible without actually writing a tangible song. So I don't feel like my opinion would be valued in that area.
now after all that said, I will not play this whole album ever again on a regular basic if I want to chill or something but if I want to have my own party or going to someone's else party then of course I'll only play the 2nd half of this album and if I hear someone else in the background only playing the 2nd half of this album at a party then I would mind, but if someone else playing the whole album in the background while we chill or something then I will tell them to plz turn this off plz
that would be interesting i think he might like drakes room for improvement or comeback season or probably wont hate it as much as sofar gone thank me later and take care
This is garbage. N. Minaj was always bad rap music but this lp is her admitting that she doesn't care about artistic integrity; she only cares about money. Thnx to TND for bringing me here. U guys kick ass
I agree that her album will do well. I love it btw. but wait...I'm lmao at C-Town saying he can see guy's in the club dancing to Starships with no shirt on and cut off shorts...Now i don't know if C-Town is gay or not but the funny thing is, He strikes me as that type of guy. No shirt, cut off shorts and twirling his dreads around with glow sticks in hand. tbh lol
Okay, I just got done watching the "current potential legends" video before this one, and you guys are completely praising her for seemingly NO reason, like there was no support on why you guys claim she will be a legend and I came here expecting to get more of an answer and you guys pretty much are slamming her in her entirety and to this day she has nothing classic artistically or commercially so I still don't understand where you guys back her on potential legend status, I'm dumbfounded
Ha! I didn't say that was the only reason I didn't like it. See, you weren't even listening, but you're trying to argue. No, I don't listen to top 40 dance pop, but if it's done well it's tolerable. I can put Lady Gaga on and it won't bother me. This, on the other hand, I thought this was poorly done. And the "intellectual point" comment is just stupid. It's an opinion on music. Therefore not based on fact. So judging an opinion as not being intellectual, in itself, isn't intellectual.
well yeah i agree her music is not evolved in terms of being improved on past hiphop but it is still hiphop. A lot of hiphop isn't soulful now whether that is a good or a bad thing. Plus I'm only talking about those 2 specific tracks, i believe them that half the record is simply pop.
I can see why you guys didn't like this. This album to me was decent as a whole. Not great but not offensive to my ears. And when I put this besides lady gaga or katy perry it's nearly as good as that stuff hell she even had some of the same producers gaga had on this album. From a strictly Hip-Hop angle it's not that good but this isn't a hip-hop album.
feefo sat right under the sun to show his waves off
'even Jesus don't like this album' lol
Best line ever. "even Jesus didnt like this"
There was something that was brought up here that was really true. When Myke (I believe) said the album from start to finish sounds like dance even with the rap songs is true and here's why. Ken GOT A BALD HEAD
No shit nigga
Big brody
I love all niggas
for the first 10 minutes marjorie got cut off every time she tried to say something lmao
Beezy is so funny. He wasn't even paying attention.

i love myke.
Best guy
Exactly why I wanted her on the show. We needed that perspective because I had a strange feeling that we wouldn't care much for this album. Haha
This album is great though timeless
I'm glad Marjorie was there as someone who (it seems) had been following Nicki's career pretty closely up to that point, to get a perspective on how she'd changed or stayed the same.
I really wish I had a group of friends who I could talk to about this stuff. I really enjoy DEHH videos!
I know Myke was in a punk band, so I would love to see a new channel with him and maybe some of his friends reviewing rock albums.
This review would have been alot better if they would have began discussing the line between Hip Hop and Electronic Dance Music.
Speaking of alternative hip-hop...EL-P's "Cancer for a Cure" comes out 05.22.12. Can we expect a review around that time?
in fact man just thinking about it i would like to see you guys discuss weather or not there should be separate charts for different variations of hip hop or weather they should go through and put people like pitt bull in different categories. it would definitely change how people view certain albums. shit maybe tyga wouldn't piss me off so much if i wasn't forced to think of him as the same genera as KRS One. You guys need to review Nicki Minaj's rerelease: The Re-Up it has what you were looking for...
@mykectown I love how you don't pull punches on something that you think is good or terrible. I feel that that kind of criticism/praise is needed a lot in Hip-Hop music, especially nowadays.

It's time to review 'the Pinkprint' pleaseeeeee
Whats the point honestly?
+Paul Andre wow really classy👍🏼
They should do it so i could laugh at how garbage it was
"This is the kind of album that makes me hate doing Dead End Hip Hop"
Damn....that sums up the whole thing
The album opens with hip hop, middle is pop, then closes out with R&B.
After previewing the album, im actually happy because wht Nicki did was make it like u want her to be the only women mc to listen to and forget the other hungry lady mcs. YOU GUYS NEED TO DO A VIDEO ON AN ALBUM LISTENING SESSION! THE REACTIONS WOULD BE PRICELESS!!
I respect musical tastes so much. Maybe hater is not the word that I needed for them. But yes, there are a lot of people insulting Nicki's music in her own music videos, they are haters. There's a lot.

That statement should not be taken as a complaint in no way shape or form

Yes, because everybody are supposed to say every album, ever, is good.
Definitely do Death Grips, the sound as far as I've heard is so so different and still so good. I'm looking forward to hearing the whole thing.
Lmao, Feefo said absolutely nothing of value when he was up.
Well yea, he usually doesn't lol
Hahaha! Wow. You only noticed my clothes were the same, but no one else's? I feel flattered. Thanks for paying attention to my wardrobe.
nobody lie, I bet alot of people thought she was going to be great after the "we are young money" album but she went the opposite direction.
yea, but i coulda swore in one of their older videos someone said it didnt even have to be new music. so yeah id love to see it to which is why im tryin

You know you are doing something great when you got people hating on you. Critics are just people who cant do the things that they are talking about
"With that being said...it does not bump in the whip" Feefo
Well, there you have it, folks. It's been confirmed: The album was TRASH haha
They did a gang of reviews and released each review week by week.
Honest Expression really stuck with me in how I should view the commercial industry when I was younger. But now, today's mainstream is all over the place.

8 months late. They're both Sellouts. Didn't expect it from Pitbull tho

damn this shit dont bump in the whip......lol
i am waiting for Azealia Banks, she used an electronic beat in her main hit 212 and that shit ended up dope as fuck, also i think everyone i have heard in "young money" is terrible.
the reason why nicki chose gaga over hova...is simple gaga pays way better for the female lane. let's face it so few hip hop artist (regardless of gender) will get to the upper echelon of the hovas, diddys, 50s, russells however the lane on that pop side showed it is easy (thanks to BEP) to do a successful crossover and keep part of the hip hop base. so, instead of swimming in the lyrical end (i think nicki is better lyrically then what her studio work shows) she goes performance art...barbie.
her most popular song (superbass) was the most popish song on her album.
@odb56 if u didn't notice they're all wearing the same thing. Thus they must've recorded a number of reviews at the same time.
Thank you for the warning man!
We talked about this this weekend and looking at reviewing that one.
true but he gives credit where it's due.
Even though this is Deadendhiphop, I just wanna see a 10 min conversation on it just to see what you all would say.
how come you guys didn't review the pinkprint
Speaking of a transition from hip hop.. You guys should've reviewed Kid Cudi's WZRD.
Mannnn I would Love to get in on one of these discussions lol I have so much to say
E-40 album/s that he just released? A review is possible?
I don't think you can review it bad if you don't like dance music.
Can you guys do a review of the Wu Block album? Peace!
No shirt, cut off shorts and twirling his dreads around with glow sticks in hand. tbh lol
she added her 2 cents to the review what else do u expect?
nicki is going pop because it makes more money, im sure thats it, has nothing to do with her "artistic path" or some shit like that
well riddle me this, how can death grips not be hip hop when they've already made the greatest hip hop album of the year??
Okay, I just got done watching the "current potential legends" video before this one, and you guys are completely praising her for seemingly NO reason, like there was no support on why you guys claim she will be a legend and I came here expecting to get more of an answer and you guys pretty much are slamming her in her entirety and to this day she has nothing classic artistically or commercially so I still don't understand where you guys back her on potential legend status, I'm dumbfounded
Yes it was a bad album, completely horrible...even if you take it from a pop stand point.
she can rap..
I sent an inbox message for peaches with the subject being the video title, please share with her privately.
So basically they say don't like the album because they don't like pop music.? That's just so dumb in my opinion.
Keyleon Hamilton Pop music isn't good it's meaningless and for Peolpe who don't know good music...Yes it's a good reason
Key Tho it is a pop album, so if they don't like pop, of course they're not gonna like it, so how is it a dumb reason?
@@TawandaTD97 so mj was king of pop, he was trash? lol
Ya'll sharin Ms. Battle?
checkout the basedprint 2. i always love your guys lil b discussions.
