Thanks Dave for this review. As I am a senior golfer I was struggling with low ball flight. I have just bought 6i to SW with Maltby M890 LT A flex graphite shafts and I am now hitting the ball as high as ever and really enjoy hitting these irons. In fact I am hitting the 7 iron higher than shown in your video. I don't have a problem with the wider sole and the turf interaction with these irons is great. I have also bought the M890 driver, 5 wood and 5 hybrid with the same shaft and they are also performing really well. I would not have considered Maltby clubs if I had not seen your review, thanks for helping me play and enjoy my golf better.
Great review as usual. I considered building a set of these for my girlfriend to learn on, but we took her to get fitted into some Callaway Women’s Rogues. However, based on this review I’d imagine the performances would be near identical in similar shafts.
Agreed lol. But she was reluctant to commit to anything she couldn’t get a good feel for. And we couldn’t find any Maltby fitters in a reasonable distance that would be able to provide a testable club and launch monitor feedback. As a beginner and someone I care for, I wanted her to have as much confidence in the equipment as humanly possible. I actually have been meaning to reach out to you in search of some quality components. I’ve recently put together my first couple decent single builds, and done some repairs for my friends but wanted to build a clean pristine forged set of my own irons. My only issue is that since it would be my first complete build, I want to keep the cost as low as possible in case I make any mistakes. Would you be able to make any recommendations for me to look into? I don’t mind buying a used head set or reshafting a set, as long as the condition is decent. If you can’t find the time, no worries. Otherwise, keep the content coming. I’m a big fan!
Thank you for the review! Your videos have been very helpful! I'm a 32 year old male absolute beginner. I was looking at the M890 but was curious if you thought it might be better to go with the STi2 or KE4 so I can grow into them? Also, out of the 3, for fairway woods and hybrids what would recommend?
I think the Sti2 is worth a look if your intent is to get better over time. For hybrids and fairway woods I prefer the TC line. However, the Stw is also very good. I haven't tested the M890 series yet.
Enjoy your videos. I'm stuck deciding between m890, ke4s and sti2. I was fitted to Titleist t300, but those are too expensive. Would I get away with sti2s? I take a shallow divot, but ball goes high. +20 handicap, mostly because of putting. Any suggestion in iron?
It's hard to say without knowing more about your swing, but I think the Sti2 are worth looking at. Very versatile and the sole grind helps with turf interaction. A close second would be the KE4s.
@@fit2yougolf926 thank you! Just noticed there's a new line coming out this year, so might wait and see how those are. The KE4 Max looks like a real nice club.
Would you provide your overall opinion on which type of golfer would benefits from the following maltby heads (m890, KE4s, or STI2). ? On a more personal note, I am a 18 handicap, low 90s swing speed, struggle with the slice (working on my grip and swing), and have a very high ball flight, would you recommend the KE4s or STi2 ( or should I look at something else?)
Carlos, I would recommend the M890 for the golfer who tends to be have a steep swing, needs maximum forgiveness, and is looking for help in getting the ball in the air. The KE4s is better suited for a more shallow swinger who wants offset to help fight a slice, and also likes a more traditional head shape (that is, no oversized or chunky). The Sti2 is my favorite of the three, as the sole width is medium, the head is slightly oversized, and the offset isn't overdone. I have fit a wide range of golfers with it. But, I like them all. Just my thoughts... Obviously your best bet is to try the different clubs yourself if you can.
Alex I think it comes down to your swing and well you get the ball in the air. The M890 has a wider sole and lower CG which would help if your swing is steep and you need some help getting the ball in the air. The Sti2 is also very forgiving, too. According to the Golfworks, the M890 was designed for golfers with slower swing speeds, but I think both are good choices for the beginner with the right shaft. The Score LT is a very friendly shaft in terms of flex and weight. Pairs nicely with either head. As I said in my reply to your comment on the Sti2 update video, I think those heads have a little more room to grow into.
I don't think you -- or anyone else who is a better-than-average player -- should denigrate clubs that aren't designed for players like you. The things you list as "cons" do not apply to higher-handicap players like me. And you're telling me that +/- three grams is going to make a noticeable difference to a high-handicap player? I've built these clubs and they work well for me. They are forgiving, help me get the ball in the air, and they fly several yards farther than previous clubs (Ping) with the same shafts and grips.

Thanks Matt, I was very impressed with this iron. The Rogue is also very good solid performer, although more expensive!

How about a test of the M890 woods and driver?
I will definitely consider it!
Profile looks like the Callaway. Thanks

I just started golf and I am debating between these and the sti2 both with the score steel shafts in regular flex. Which one would you recommend?

I certainly didn't mean to be overly critical of these clubs. I am impressed with them and hope that came across.
