      Hii Cody,
I need your advice. i just bought a new Varta F19 car battery online (autobatterienbilliger.de) for my Diesel 2 year old car - Toyota Avensis III Station Wagon (T27) 2.0 D-4D.
it has being only over 2 months (i didn't installed it into car until 1 month ago).
everyday when before going to work, i noticed on my cigaratte hole volt meter indicating the voltage of the battery at the car key on is 11.6v (for a few seconds when key first turn on) ,
then it stays at 11.8v as long as the key remain on (not yet crank start).
after crank up, it is 14v.
the battery is brand new and i fully charged it before i install into the car. initially the voltage is 12v when the key first inserted and turned on.
after few weeks, i noticed it becomes 11.9v , now 11.8v. it stables at 11.8v after the initial diesel heat (which causes the voltage to drop to 11.6v).
i heard 11.8v is already 80% discharged or more , of the battery ?
during week days, i make short trip to work, but during week end, i did made 49mins drive on highway.. why it didn't fully charged the battery to over 12v as when i first installed the car battery (after charging at home ) ?
right now is winter (2 -6 deg C day time, sometime -2C at night ) , i know battery not accepting so much charge during cold weather, but a brand new battery of expensive brand behave like this is ridiculous. if i don't pay attention to it, it might goes over 50% discharge and ruin the battery. my car alternator is good.. when the car running, it is mostly 14.2 volt as show on cigaratte volt meter.
i also notice, when i turned the key on again after a short trip , the " key on" voltage is 12.2v .
but over night (2nd day morning going to work), the "key on" voltage is again at 11.8v ( and initial diesel heat voltage is 11.6v).
so, what's the deal here ?
do i have a bad battery or the vendor sold me old battery ?
your advice will be very much appreciated.
      thanks
      andrew

Very helpful video. Having just changed the battery on my '95 just now, I would make one suggestion: If you can - because I'm not sure how long the positive cable is -- connect the positive (red) terminal before you get the battery all the way in. It was a real pain trying to get my fingers or a quarter-inch ratchet in there to attach the terminal after I had the battery in and clamped down. I ended up using an 8mm open end wrench on it.

There are a few things that I am thinking of off the top of my head with the given info. One is that you sending unit in the gas tank is disconnected, broke, or the float is hung up. That is easy to check. You usncrew the gas lid cover (carefully as not to scratch the paint). Then unscrew the filler cap and pull the assembly out. Be careful bc you are dealing with gas!!! Disconnect the battery first. That is where I would start.

Another good video. I just replaced my battery in my 93 C4 a few weeks back. It was the original battery, and what finally killed it was when I moved to the coal regions of PA a couple of years back and the extreme cold in the winter took care of the rest.
On a personal note, my C4 is by far the easiest car to work on.

Yea, it's actually not that bad. I thought about it and you change a battery max once every 5yrs. And this is easy enough. It is worth the better weight distribution and center of gravity to have to take side louver off. The C5 is such a nice Vette. What color?

Well I'm done with no huge problems. I will say this. I found it easier to connect the battery terminals before securing the battery down. This gave me more room to get my ratchet in as I could move the battery around a little bit.
Also lining up the panel was a bigger pain than I was expecting. I found that putting the three in the front on first was pretty crucial to getting it to go.

My corvette has a spot size of quarter chiped out of paint. Any ideas on how to fix that? Really kills the look for me.

Do you think these cars are going to keep there value ??
I"m thinking of one with 33k , but I don't know if they break down or not .
    Thanks

C4 Corvettes have already bottomed out. So I guess there's no worrying if they're going to keep their value or not. The corvettes of this generation are pretty reliable. The problem is that they're all old cars. The newest C4 (1996) is over 20 years old. Sports car or not, any car that old is bound to require more maintenance than a new car. So if you aren't the basic joe mechanic, or even DIY person, make sure you have a decent amount of money for maintenance.

Hi Chris. I got a new battery for my 94 C4 and when I go to put the side panel back on, the panel hits the plastic bracket that the strap goes through and cannot seat properly. I thought perhaps I needed a battery without a strap, and therefore without those brackets, such that the battery is not as wide. However I cannot find any without those brackets so I must be doing something wrong. Any ideas? Thanks
