      Doulop rear Bose speakers with amp $213.99 each. Ecklers. They match OEM. My dilemma is the CD player is not working which might be the head. Expensive, $227. My radio works fine.
      Regarding your problem, Delco/Bose has a radio receiver refurbishment program via Ecklers as well. $134.99. Sounds like your receiver is shot. Call 877-815-5799 for complete details should you decide to refurbish your radio.
      Love my C4 and I like to keep things OEM but I may look to buy a modern radio and speakers. It will cost me almost $700 to restore it all to OEM. Maybe a new unit with Bluetooth and sync would be a better return on investment.

    what a blast from the past! I won't look ahead so as not to spoil the outcome. I also have a '91 that I used to use as a daily driver. I bought her used but she was cherry and needed a lot of TLC at first.. for which she rewarded me well with many dependable miles. But from day ONE.. when I turned her stereo on.. she SCREECHED in four channel pain! Seriously. I only turned on her radio a couple more times to know that she had a serious flaw in her stereo system.

    I appreciate the way you approach diagnosing this sticky problem and also share your frustration. I have a '91 Corvette Convertible and the radio stopped working a couple of years ago. I have been avoiding fixing it, but your video has me motivated. So thank you for that. My radio's symptoms are different from yours where my radio turns on and the power antenna operates, but only a high pitch static noise comes out of the speakers. I also thought it was the CDM. It is a shame that it is such a pain to access it. I live in Syracuse, so I'm planning to take the CDM to a local automotive electical repair shop, United Radio. So as soon as the weather warms up I'll let you know what they find out. I'm just hoping it isn't too expensive. Keep us apprised of your progress. Lastly, I agree with you that Corvettes need to be all factory stock.

    • @Doulop
      @Doulop  3 года назад +1

      Hi Chuch, thank you so much for your kind words. I still have not fixed this issue. I need to send my CDM to Dr. Don which is a well-known Corvette radio repair man and have him repair mine back to factory. I just hate to spend 200 some dollars for a radio. Hopefully sometime soon I can do that. I hope you get yours figured out too. Thanks for commenting and take care!

    • @ddischiave
      @ddischiave 3 года назад +2

      I haven't pulled the CDM out of my car yet. With today being a pretty nice day I went out to the garage, lifted the car cover and surveyed the situation. I noticed that the glove compartment is located directly above the CDM general area. It looks like taking the glove box out looks pretty simple. Before I start that task I thought I'd ask the question: did you notice in your efforts if the CDM can be removed from the glove box opening? Thanks.

    • @Doulop
      @Doulop  3 года назад +1

      So glad you asked. No, it needs to be accessed from below. You can access it from on the ground. Just a pain. Good luck, Chuck! Let me know how you make out.

    • @ddischiave
      @ddischiave 3 года назад +2

      @@Doulop Thank you for being so responsive, that will save me from doing a useless task and just wasting time. My plan is to start with disconneting each speaker, then systematically reconnecting each one to see if there is one bad speaker. The symptoms: I get power to the radio head which lights up and the power antenna goes up and then a loud squeal. I'm hoping that by disconnecting each speaker sequentially I can determine if it is one or more of the speakers or none of them, leaving the CDM as the problem. In which case I'll need Houdini lessons. Thanks again, keep your great videos coming.

    • @Doulop
      @Doulop  3 года назад +1

      Hey Chuck, not a problem :) your plan sounds like the perfect way to approach it. I get nothing at all so I can’t do that. I wish you best. Please continue to keep me updated and good luck on the Houdini lessons :)

    Doctor Don is the man Doulop. Going to send him my radio for service. The cassette no longer works and the radio receiver sometimes goes out and switches to cassette. If you hit eject it may or may not come back. The CD works though. I might get his CDR or MP3 connection to upgrade. I have seen many owners go with the touch screen radios or GPS in their cars. I really don't want to modify the inside of the dash mounting area and mess with a lot of wiring. Finding a place to install a new radio where they aren't a bunch of hacks is a concern if not doing the install yourself. Best of luck with getting your radio fixed. Doctor Don set up my friend Charlie's 92 ZR1 and it's great with the MP3 hook up.

    By some miracle, my '93s stereo system still works! I bought her used and when I first turned on the radio and it didn't work.. even thought the antenna DID.. I wrote that off to the awful experimental radios they made in the early '90s and bought the car anyway.. after all my '91s radio was burnt toast.. but I didn't miss it much. But after a few hours of driving my "new" 93.. I decided to try the radio again.. and again.. nothing.. but at least it didn't screech.. so I left it on.. Then after maybe 30 seconds, the rear speakers came alive. Cool! So I tuned in a radio station and it played reasonably well.. when two full minutes later.. the FRONT speakers came alive! I could not believer it! I KNOW that each speaker has it's own amplifier.. and it won't last for long..
    With the hard top on and the windows rolled up.. it is like a huge pair of quad headphones.. as good as you would ever expect from a stereo of the era. Am I gushing? Nope. I haven't even mentioned the CD and tape player that still works as well. NOW I am gushing!

  • @Meinstein

    My '91's stereo never DID work.. so I just never used it anymore. I found the C-4's original muffler system's natural hum to be music enough. But as fate would have it.. years later.. my red C4 was rendered totaled.. by a deer. Anyway.. I was fortunate enough to find another C4 for a reasonable price right after the mishap. This C4 is a '93.. two years newer.. and four years better.
    One way better is that the stereo still works! It shows every indication of quitting at any time.

    '91 C4, my CDM has a plastic cover with all kinds of wires attached to bottom, got most off, but don't want to break clips on last 2. This has been a bear to just get to the CDM, I wish mine was like yours with out the plastic cover. I'm afraid of damaging the thousands of wires they shoved down there and under the CDM unit. May change mind and just run new wires/speakers to go with my new radio.

Designation under fuse is CTSY it handles interior lighting speaker relays antenna and air cond. (c68), interior and interior lighting. I have all refurbished speaker amps and radio from Bose and have replaced speaker relay and did trouble shooting on antenna. I had a 96 with radio that would light up, buttons seem to work, but no sound. My problem was the wires to the Bose relay. No power was getting to the speakers which should read 12v when radio on. If you got nothing, then check the relay. The main orange +12v lead was bad. I ran a new wire from the hatch light. Then I found the blue "turn on" wire from the CDM unit was bad. It would work intermittently, not getting full 12v signal to the relay. Ran new wire directly from CDM to relay to bypass bad wire. This fixed my problem and got my stock unit to work. I was going to switch to Android, but when I saw my stock worked, I kept it and just paired it with a FM bluetooth transmitter and my iphone Velcroed to the status display screen to give me the same functionality. Maybe you have a similar problem with "bad wires". Took me 3 weeks to figure this out!

      @@Doulop I saw this in a forum post:
      Do the wipers work on the car? On my 1990 (same bose) my cd/cassette used to only display the time. There is a white wire on the CDM tuner that is a source of ignition power and if it isn't present only the clock will display. This wire is tied into the wiper fuse. The radio fuse is only for battery power to the CDM tuner.
      There is also a bose power amp relay mounted kinda by the steering column as well as a ground wire kinda right by the place where the door wiring passes through the door jamb.
      www.digitalcorvettes.com/threads/1991-coupe-radio-not-working.154737/
      That sounds like your problem. Also look at wiring diagram:
      www.digitalcorvettes.com/threads/radio-wiring-diagram-for-a-1995.250610/
      There should be a wire which is only hot when the ignition is on. If you don't find it, that is probably the problem and you have to run a new wire.

    • @Doulop
      @Doulop  2 года назад +1

      Hi Reese, my antenna was replaced with a brand new one back in 2014. I don’t think my antenna is bad but I did have a Subscriber tell me that his antenna was loose which was causing a ground connection issue and wouldn’t let the radio come on. He tightened up the antenna and everything worked. I have not gotten my car out of storage yet but I hope to do that soon. Best of luck with your radio, man. It is very frustrating when your radio doesn’t work. Thanks for watching

    Is it worth trying to get my factory radio working? or should I just buy a new head unit... i get pretty bad sound from front left, decent sound front right, no sound rear left, and sometimes i get pulsing noises rear right.. I have a feeling it's not speaker related because I tried some known good speakers in the back and didn't have any luck.

    • @Doulop

      Honestly, if you don’t mind going away from the stock look, you will get much better sound, technology and convenience from a new system. I just like the stock look too much to do that, personally. I wish you the best. It’s annoying not having a working radio!

      Thanks. I watched it. Not sure what relays you are referring to in the trunk. I can’t find anything like that

    • @franklinthu
      @franklinthu 2 года назад +1

      @@Doulop The relay is in the front in your car. The key is to first check if you are getting 12v at the speakers when you turn on the radio (orange wires). If you're not getting that, your relay connections are bad and not your CDM unit. When you turn on your radio, a 12v signal goes to the relay from the head unit which then turns on the main 12v high current supply to the speakers.
