The sad part is most of the so called inflation is actually corporate greed. I have noticed in the big name stores the price of things have gone up but I go to stores in my area that sell local items from within a 200 mile radius and make arrangements with farmers and meat packing facilities. I just bought a pound of all natural bacon for $6 but the national brand has gone to $10 and I get a dozen organic omega-3 diet eggs for $2 so don't tell me it's all inflation

This is just sad, I remember this ice cream truck that would pull up to my grandparents house almost everyday, and whenever we heard it coming my siblings and I along with the kids of the neighborhood would find any sort of change to get a nice treat. The Ice Cream we usually get was $1.50 growing up which was either a vanilla/chocolate cone covered in sprinkles or a SpongeBob popsicle. Now fast forward to 2022, its been more than 7-9 years since I last ordered from that truck and he was charging $4.50 for that exact order which is ridiculous. I bought it anyways and I personally thought something was off, the soft serve just didn't taste as good or even well made as it has when I was younger. It was nice to see that truck again after so long, but it was also sad to see the once popular and nostalgic truck struggling, still holding on in this day and age by doubling up the prices.
These days its actually easier to make your own soft serve. It actually takes a bit of effort, or you can buy a simple ice cream making machine online. The trick is to have the ingredients mixed and kept chilled, so when you toss it into the machine that is cold, it accelerates the freezing process instantly.
As a kid I used to always get the Mario head ice cream with a bubble gum nose. I used to love the Banana and chocolate pops too that aren't sold in any stores around here. Ice cream trucks had unique flavors you couldn't find in the stores. Would be a shame if that's lost.
Sad to see, it wasn't only in the US that such trucks were a thing, it was also in Canada, but after the late 70s, they stopped showing up in my neighbourhood while I was still a little kid, never knew what had happened, why did they stopped was a question I was asking myself, when the ice cream truck stopped... All the kids in the neighbourhood went after it and were all there where the trucks stopped, but the parents were still keeping an eye on the kids, after all, it was the parents who had the money, not the kids....😉😉 Everyone knew everyone back in the day, but, the mailman, the papers delivery and the milk truck were all part of the fun, different world and different reality...

Those were good times. Times That I will never forget.
A BIG shout-out to my icecream truck lady Sandra in the UK. Always so friendly and hands out small cones whenever my dog comes out to greet her. Sandra always waves it off saying that she loves my dog and wants to spoil him but I always pay for the cone and the rest of the ice-cream.
Living with a type 1 diabetic, ice cream was truly a treat. He was diagnosed at age 4, so trying to find places that had sugar free treats was a hunt in and of itself. Besides, the ice cream truck never sold actual ice cream, just those frozen popsicle style desserts with artificial flavors and gumball eyes. It wasn't worth it.

Parents who grew up with the ice cream truck always said "We have ice cream at home" have let this happen. Saying no to a child is why this happened. Not giving a child $5 to run around with outside and spontaneously spend.
I remember it being like 2-3$ per frozen treat with an ice-cream truck, in my town when I was a child. Really shows how sad of a state we're in if a cone or frozen treat is about six bucks each.
I lived for the ice-cream truck back in the day. Holy cow, have not thought about this in a long time. Brings back great memories with my family and my old home.
I was getting ice cream from a truck for the first time in twelve years with my little cousin, and then an old lady came to us and said to the truck man, “Do you have a permit? Kids should be eating healthy foods!” The ice cream truck man said he is never coming back due to her...
Last year I moved to a city that has a weekly soft serve ice cream truck. I had never seen such a thing. My family and I visit it every time we see it. That being said, in the past year, we’ve seen prices increase by 20% and it doesn’t come every week now. This truck brings the neighbors out to socialize and kids running down to catch the truck. It makes me so happy. I hate that this isn’t going to be around much longer.
Twice in the past week I’ve gone out to get ice cream for my brother and I. The man is so nice, and I know he doesn’t get many customers. It’s sad to see part of my childhood fading.
British dude here. I remember when I was a kid, there was an ice cream van that used to drive up our main road every day of the summer. Frank, his name was. Sometimes, if we didn't have money, he'd give us free ice cream and say; "Don't tell the others haha!". He was always really cool with us, and told jokes all the time. Sadly he had a heart attack, and had to resign - but his son took over and continued the family tradition. I'll never forget that burst of excitement when hearing those chimes... And then begging my parents for 50p to get a Mr whippy Ice cream! Hehe Memories...
The dying off of ice cream trucks brought tears to my eyes because I was a child that lined up in 1960s. I haven't lived in a large city in decades so I haven't even seen one in that long. But the memories and thoughts that other children were enjoying the experience gave me happiness for them. Now that is dying off. So sad.
What's sad is that when fuel prices go down, the price on foods doesn't. This has been going on for decades. Food prices go up, then when fuel prices go down, the savings turn into profit, as opposed to being passed back to the consumer.
i remember getting berated by customers when i worked in fast food about food prices, them claiming i was adding things onto their order, i would try to explain inflation but to no avail

@Kirsten A What's worse is that a lot of times is they aren't even changing the price on the shelf. I tried to stock up on Reese's today. Picked up four of the Fun Size 12 packs. The price on the shelf was $2. Went to the register and they were almost 2.50. 20% increase overnight. So I put two of them back. Spent $5 instead of $8. And less poison for my body. Win/win Even with inflation I spend less on groceries than I ever have. I snack a lot less now. If I think something too high I buy less or just stop buying it altogether. One of the things on my list today was ground chicken. It was $3.50 last time I bought it. They wanted $6.50. I just chuckled (inside) a bit and kept moving. They can only price gouge you if you let them. I'll eat today. It just wont be chicken. No skin off my back.
luckily there's still a local ice cream truck that comes around my neighborhood every day and with my neighborhood still having a good amount of kids around, business is decent. As for everything else going up its not surprising but it won't stop Dunkin or Starbucks for me but what helps is I only get coffee from McDonalds now since its $1 any size with their app
Same. In my neighborhood, there is not one but 2. One of them used to come twice a week but now only comes around once a week on the weekends. Both come once a week now on the same day.
It makes me angry too... If that helps, guy who said that. We had an ice cream truck that frequently came through my neighborhood as a child, and it constantly BLARED "Moonlight Sonata" and one other regular sounding ice cream truck song, but it was so loud you could tell where in the neighborhood it was and if it was getting closer or further away:) Bomb pops and Fudge bars were cheap back then, and I played outside a lot so it was AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE MEMORY FABRIC OF MY GROWING UP. So I pray kids and adults in the future will invest in their inner innocence by making an effort to extend charity and customerage towards the ice cream truck community. "Suffer with them that suffer, rejoice with them that rejoice." Plus, you can't really put a price on ice cream, or baseball, or salvation. Ya know? 💖👍
The ice cream truck in my neighborhood never had soft serve ice cream like that. We always had freaky looking Micky Mouse on a stick, or fudge bombs. And those were for the rich kids. The poor ones (like me) got flavored ice pops.
Yeah! That is what the ice cream guy in the truck that i know of in my city sells. He still sells fudge sticks, 50/50s, missles, drumsticks , ice cream sandwiches...etc
This is happening everywhere. Taco Bell for instance the Crunchwrap a year ago was 4.56 now its 5.61 we even made a burrito with two ingredients upwards of 3.50. And all the burrito has is “chili” and processed cheese with an insane amount of declumping agent
That would increase the price of things Chris, not decrease them. The reason the market no longer produces those things is because the U.S lacks a competitive advantage in them, meaning to produce them by definition would cost more.
I grew up in Queens and to this day, our Mr Softy truck comes around at 10 :30 pm every day like clockwork. I know that man ain’t just selling iced cream at that time of night.

I see the problem with the ice-cream truck, he's not selling Mexican candy, illegal fire works, BB guns, Cheetos locos, shave ice, korn, Pokemon cards, Pokemon trading (Gameboy color until Silver), and marijuana. 🤣 good times.
You know... Before COVID, I stopped a ice cream truck on my street. I went to the window and looked at the pictures of different ice cream that had NO PRICES listed. I got 3 ice cream goodies for me and my kids and just about fell over when the price was over $20. That was the last time I ever stopped a ice cream truck.
I live in a small town in Oregon. We have a population of about 8,000 people. The trucks used to come every Saturday or Sunday in the summer, but I haven’t seen a single one where I live. Me and my friends used to run out to the ice cream trucks after hearing by them afew miles away. It was a huge staple in summer, and I miss it.
Ice creams in America need way more flavors. Often times the likes of mango, ube (purple yam), melon/honeydew, banana, coconut, etc... aren't widely available.
I remember being a toddler and getting a spongebob ice lolly from the ice cream truck parked outside my old house. It's sad seeing such a nostalgic part of so many people's childhoods starting to become a thing of the past.

It’s the opposite in my area, buying from corporate is significantly cheaper.
I hope it's the end the end end end of ice cream truck so I'm sick of hearing scary stories about them people tell scary stories around the campfire
Yep they’re using inflation as an excuse to continue to overfill their pockets 🙄

Paying more than $5 for an ice cream sandwich?! I can buy two 1/3 gal of flavored ice cream cartons for less money!
As a kid I used to always get the Mario head ice cream with a bubble gum nose. I used to love the Banana and chocolate pops too that aren't sold in any stores around here. Ice cream trucks had unique flavors you couldn't find in the stores. Would be a shame if that's lost.
I used to eat the Spongebob Penguins of Madagascar and Sonic popsicles from Mr Soffte Ice Cream Truck lol
They can still make a killing , for sure, at beaches , parks , events etc . Not the same I know .
All the kids in the neighbourhood went after it and were all there where the trucks stopped, but the parents were still keeping an eye on the kids, after all, it was the parents who had the money, not the kids....😉😉
Everyone knew everyone back in the day, but, the mailman, the papers delivery and the milk truck were all part of the fun, different world and different reality...
There used to be some around my neighborhood in Canada only a couple years ago, but seeing them now is rare

Parents who grew up with the ice cream truck always said "We have ice cream at home" have let this happen. Saying no to a child is why this happened. Not giving a child $5 to run around with outside and spontaneously spend.
But it is how much money things cost to start an ice cream truck business not the people saying that they already have ice cream

@Kirsten A What's worse is that a lot of times is they aren't even changing the price on the shelf. I tried to stock up on Reese's today. Picked up four of the Fun Size 12 packs. Even with inflation I spend less on groceries than I ever have. I snack a lot less now. If I think something too high I buy less or just stop buying it altogether. One of the things on my list today was ground chicken. It was $3.50 last time I bought it. They wanted $6.50. I just chuckled (inside) a bit and kept moving. That would increase the price of things Chris, not decrease them. The reason the market no longer produces those things is because the U.S lacks a competitive advantage in them, meaning to produce them by definition would cost more.
