How Did These People Get Locked in Stores After Closing?

  • These people didn’t get the memo that it was closing time and got stuck inside businesses. A man says he was shopping in an Aldi supermarket when the staff closed up early and he had to be rescued by the police. Another woman got locked in a CVS, but the police couldn’t get through the metal gate over the main entrance. A gym-goer was in the jacuzzi when the staff at L.A. Fitness closed down and he had to leave through the emergency exit. Inside Edition Digital’s Mara Montalbano has more.

I gotta say, shame on LA fitness for being so callous and cold to the last fella and banning him after they locked him in. That was most certainly no fault of his own!! Employees should thoroughly search the establishment before closing... I would have understood not giving him 3 months free, but banning him? Good god. Shame on LA Fitness.

      @MaddMaster69 2 года назад +46

Well, the guy didn't seem to be upset, but actually happy that he was locked inside. He also asked for 3 months free, and did all of that while live streaming. Let's not forget that he refused to call 911 because his battery was on 16%, and decided that live streaming it would be the better option. I have a feeling that the guy did it intentionally but I can't prove anything, so thats just my theory.

    • @Tatlone

My guess is that their security cameras showed what really happened and it wasn't the story he told on social media. He could easily argue with them if he felt the ban was truly unjustified. The likelihood that he hid out in the gym just to have something for his socials is greater than him actually sitting in a hot tub for too long. None of his actions even remotely make sense based on the circumstances. If you know that calling 911 is a solution why would you rather eat up your 16% battery life livestreaming than call and orchestrate your own rescue?

I remember when the mall was closing and the store I worked in was pretty big. I pulled the gate down and we began cleaning up. Typically we dim the lights. All you hear is hangers being moved and put on racks. Clothes getting shuffled and folded back into place. Mop running across the floor. Change being counted at the register. Typical closing night. I was counting down the money when someone walked up to the register with a few shirts and put them on the table. Me thinking it was one of the new girls I looked at the items and stated that they belong over at such and such trying not to lose my count not even looking. I didn’t know this was a customer at the register until the manager started to be like “how in the hell!!” I looked up and there she was. Like this was normal. She was there for at least 30 mins after closing blending in with the employees shopping for clothes. Needless to say I couldn’t check out her items. However we did place them on hold for her to come back the next day when the store was open. I guess the hint of the mall announcement stating the mall is closed, music stopping, lights off, and gate shut wasn’t enough of a hint for her😂🤧
Another time I had to lead a couple out of the mall with the employee exit cause they didn’t leave on time. I have no clue how they stayed in the mall after hours. It was wild. The girl was about to have a panic attack. It was almost 11pm. I gotta thank willowbrook mall for all the crazy memories. I have more but I think I’ll stop here😂

He's the one who trained me and he warned me about the possibility of this happening. Then one night, it happened to me too, I had to use the restroom and everyone just left; luckily, my manager was still in the parking lot at she unlocked the door for me.

I was in a similar situation during the pandemic. I went to grab milk at CVS about 20 minutes before they supposedly closed. I walked in and got my milk, went to the register and waited to be checked out... and waited and waited until I noticed no one was in the store. Door was open, lights were on but there was absolutely no one in the store. I put the milk back and walked out to my car and called the store... nothing.
I ended up calling the corporate office and telling them there store was left unlocked and then I left. I don't know what happened after that.

I was a manager at Big Lots for years. I made announcements every 5 minutes for the last 30 minutes and myself and my staff checked the store after closing. We would spend another hour after closing to count the money for the day and straighten the store up and then go home. I’m confused on how all of this happened. Sounds like lazy managers. I actually got locked in my own job once as well lol. I had just started a job at a Supermarket (Publix) and this was during the beginning of the pandemic when everywhere was closing early including my store. So on my third day being there I was working the frozen section of the store which was near the back and with our store the Grocery/Frozen section leaves last usually so on this day the manager in charge went up to everyone and told them to clock out but somehow missed me and didn't check to make sure she got everyone so she sets the alarm and closes the door...45 min later I get done with my section and clock out to find literally no one in site lol but once I went up to the front of the store I set off the invisible security sensor and the alarm got set off (which was ear shattering loud) And like I said, I was new at the time so I didn't have a number to a single person who worked in the store for help so the cops show up to find me in my work uniform stuck behind the locked door and they laughed at me 😂🤦‍♂️ The main store manager gets called automatically when the Alarm goes off so he shows up a few minutes later also giggling and I just had to walk out looking like an idiot after that and went straight home. Came back the next day to have EVERYONE including managers joking about it lmao. It was pretty funny looking back at it but in the moment I was pretty freaked out lol

I have never found anywhere to tell my locked in horror story!! This was decades ago and I was in my late teens. I didn't even have a cell phone yet. I was at a library in Oklahoma City. It was nearing closing time so I went to check out my books. The library closed at 9, and the wall clock said 8:55. I stepped into the bathroom on my way out but the lights went out while I was peeing, making it harder to get out of the bathroom. When I exited the wall clock said 9:00 straight up but It was oddly dark everywhere. I looked around and saw no one! How in the world did everyone leave so fast? I mean everyone had purses and keys in hand to run like a marathon out the door at 9 exactly? The second I started moving around, the alarms all went off. I started to panic. I found some change in my wallet, enough to make a call on the phone in the entry way. I called my dad, who ironically was a librarian at a different branch. He had no clue what I should do. Eventually cops showed up, surrounding the library complete with so many guns! Every door and window had cops with guns pointed at me, cops screaming at me. I threw my hands up and hoped they could hear me, explaining my story. I mean, what in the world could someone have done in a library in like the 10 minutes after it had closed, yet they were treating me like some known convict. The branch manager showed up all angry to let me out without even an apology to me for what I had just gone through. It was the creepiest experience of my life, and my first experience being petrified of the police shooting me to death when I was nothing but innocently locked in the library.

I used to work with pirates of the Caribbean in disneyland.
One time, some guests almost got stuck on the ride because we didn't time the last boat properly.
What we do is allow the ride to cycle the last guests. When the last guest is boarded, the first round of empty boats is tagged with a towel so we know when to stop the boats by looking at the camera before the lift Hill.
I guess someone must have been in a rush to move on to the second part of the closing process, where we cycle the boats and have custodial cast members clean them.
Turns out, we thought that the tagged boat had gotten past the cast member at Tower and so the brakes before the lift Hill were applied.
The guests who were still on the boat downstairs got an abrupt scare when their boat suddenly stopped.
The guests were very well behaved. They sat calmly in their boat until we started to page to warn everyone in the ride building that the show elements were going to turn off and the work lights were going to be switched on.
Someone decided to lean forward and look around. This immediately caught one of our eyes at the tower area. Turns out we had made a big mistake and we were about to make an even bigger one by switching the lights on.
So, we quickly released the brakes and stopped the next two boats while the guests made their way up the lift Hill.
If they had held very still, they would have been stuck down there until maintenance made their rounds.

One day, my mom decided to work on a holiday weekend (family owned food business btw) in one of those tall downtown LA buildings. Mom decided to bring me along so we can catch up on some stuff. We started opening the store and before we began on food prep/organizing, stocking and paperwork we decided to go to the bathroom early morning before we began working. So we went to the restroom that only employees can open with a special key. As soon as we finished, and tried to head out we found ourselves locked in. We both panicked and started banging so hard and screaming out loud after around the 30th minute. Anxiety was started to set in. Take in mind we were panicking because we realized it was a early morning Friday and a holiday weekend so most likely we would be stuck there for 3 days until Tuesday morning before anybody could let us out. Thankfully our screams were so loud, an old janitor man heard our screams from the floor above us and tried to figure out where the screams were coming from. He finally found us and rescued us from that horrible bathroom.
(This was early 2000s so take in mind there was no wifi and people didn't have cell phones to call anyone like we have today. Cell phones back then was a rarity if one had one. Also back in those days it was hard to get signal in a building in LA like that even with a cell phone. Just saying before anybody comments on that.)

When I finished up I went to the timeclock to punch out and triggered a motion detector which set off the store alarm. It was one of those extremely loud alarms that you could hear from a few blocks away so it scared the hell out of me. When I was 15 in the 80s I got locked in a Sears store in Florida. I was looking at radios when I got there about an hour before they closed. The store was pretty much empty and I only saw like three workers when I went in. I didn't find what I was looking for so I went over to the TV display wall and sat down in a lazy boy-type chair. I was just going to hang out for a bit and cool off, it was super hot outside, and being summer just made it worse. I dozed off and woke up around midnight. The Sears wasn't in a Mall but a shopping plaza so there weren't any overnight guards. I couldn't make a phone call to call for help because I didn't know you had to press 9 or something to get an outside line. I sat near the main door for a few hours in the hope someone would drive by, But I didn't see anyone. I wrote two notes and stuck them on the two main doors going inside saying I was inside with how I ended up locked in and where I was sleeping at. The store manager woke up me laughing. He did call the police and when they showed up they told me my mom called them at 11pm saying I didn't come home. They were looking for me all night

That gym yo its their fault for not making sure every one was out. The real negative attention is from their banning him. Jerks!

La fitness guy should have sued, I would have if I got banned for life. How did the employees not fully check EVERYWHERE before closing?

I remember when a Macy's was closing at one of our local malls, my mother and I just happened to be there along with a few other people, the entrance closed and one of the staff had to open the backdoor for us lol

Large stores should require an announcement that the store is closing and the employees should be required to take a walk to make sure there's no customers remaining before they lock the stores. When I'm the closing manager I always have my associates take a walk and check for any remaining customers before locking the doors and shutting down the registers.

Being locked in a gym would be amazing actually. All the equipment for yourself and no one hogging it up.

I almost got locked in a library once when I was taking a dump. I was in the restroom for about 10 minutes and then the lights just shut off, so I sat in the restroom in the dark for about 5 more minutes to finish, and when I walked out the place was empty. I got lucky though, I went to the front doors and the person was just about to lock up so I made it out just in time.

The same thing that happened to that Amarah girl happened to me too 🤣 I had to wear different clothes while working and changed back before I normally left, and when I came outside the metal doors were closed and locked from the outside 😭💀

We had a Similar situation. We cleaned a retail store and closed it up, and a woman was asleep under our luggage.. but it wasn't "oh no I need to call the cops and escape"..
The woman stole 5 duffle bags worth of stuff at about 3 am
