One thing you can do to protect your potted cacti from frost, especially their root systems is to insert their current pot on to another pot so their root system is more insulated. I've done this and luckily all my cacti survived the winter last year. Potted plants are trickier to overwinter because their roots are more exposed to the elements unlike plants planted in the ground Which have more insulation around their roots
Great video once again, Ana, as always I really enjoyed watching your truly awesome collection of cacti and other succulents!! Thanks so much for sharing!! Looks like you are all set for winter now, yaay, well done!! Sending cactus greetings from my greenhouse and very best wishes, hope you have a wonderful week ahead!!👍🌵🪴🌵🏵🌸🌺😎
Thank you so much, Joe. Feels like winter here now. Our night temperatures are just a few degrees above freezing. But no rain so the air is still very dry.
@@CactusCaffeine hi Ana, yep, same here, getting much colder here too now! But here also still very damp and high humidity, which my cacti of course really do not like all too much at these low temps... so I occasionally have to have my dehumidifier running...can you send some of that dry air of yours over to my greenhouse please, haha? Have a great day!!👍😊🌵🌵🌱🌺🌼💚😎
We are having a week with low temps and frost at night here in Denmark we evin had some snow so i got to test my tiny greenhouse gas heater and so fare it works just fine
Thats fantastic your plants are all set for the Winter Ana :-D and all your plants are looking so incredible and cosy for their Winter rest, your garage set up is amazing, and thats fantastic your Thanksgiving cactus is in bud, my Monkeys tail is still in bud and my Cleistocactus samaipatanus too but I think the buds on mine have stopped still, thanks so much for sharing the awesome update with us, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and CAFFEINE and PLANT POWER to Las Vegas for a fantastic day XXXX
I’m happy to see buds on mine too but our nights are getting colder. They may not open up. Thank you Lyn for your support and wishing you a cozy comfortable winter! 😃☕️
Thank you for sharing beautiful and amazing cactus for the winter lovely collection Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family hope you had a blessed day
Looks like your all set Ana. I have to agree, the aloes really do look great in their stress colors!!! In my little experiment with the trichocereus it seems it will take to 20° F . It froze at 18°. Oh! I still see some space in your greenhouse!! Hahaha!!! As Lyn says, always room for one or afew more!! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours !!! From Morris Park in the Ozarks, out to Las Vegas, have a wonderful day!!! Peace, Love, Plants!!!✌️💖🌵🌳🥀🌿🏵🌱🌲🌸🌴🌷🪴🌾🌹😃👍
Good to know about the Trichocereus. It does not go that low in Vegas (no yet) so I’m hoping they will all be fine outside. They are too big to fit in my greenhouse. I left spaces in between pots inside the greenhouse so light can still go through the lower shelves. But it is so tempting to fill it up with more plants. 😁 Must resist! 😉
Everything looks snug! Seeing your garage set up makes me want to add more lights in mine... I never know how cold it will get here in Houston, or for how long!
I used to keep some plants inside my house for the winter. But I don’t like seeing grow lights indoors. So this year, I squeezed them all in the garage. 😁
I admire you Ana for moving all your plants as you have to for the winter. Here in Phoenix I keep most of them outside because usually it does not freeze. I use frost cloth if frost is predicted which is usually around Christmas time and through January. I do move my Stapeliads inside and some small seedlings as you do. Love you videos. I think I have said that before!!! Nancy
Thanks Nancy! I wish our winter is like yours so I don’t have to move my cacti. But we get hard freeze especially in December through January. But it’s ok. I like how my backyard transforms with the change of seasons. 😊
Awesome update, Ana 😊 Plants are all looking great and comfy for the winter. I’ve got a few with buds on, too. A couple of Mammillaria have decided they want to flower now haha. Thank you for sharing with us as always. Have a wonderful day from Edith & myself 🌵☀️🌺🌼🌸🏜☕️
Thank you for sharing with us this amazing video Ana! All your cactus looks great! All your cactus and succulents are lucky this winter! Greetings from Flowers Zone Albania 🇦🇱
Beautiful, beautiful collection Ana😍. I just love your passion and I am so impressed with your knowledge and especially with the identification of your cacti and succulents. My wish is to one day be able to identify each and every one that I have in my small collection lol. Question tho, I notice that you do not use saucers for drainage, how do you control the water so that it does not trickle onto those on the lower shelves? Thank you so much for sharing how you prepare your precious babies for the winter. Even tho my country is always of a hot climate, I am sure other collectors with winter season will find your tips useful. Cheers and all the very best for a wonderful Christmas and a prosperous 2023.
Anna... I just bought 7 new Cacti yesterday. Omg.. I bought a small cutting of Opuntia Jacobs coat. It was very dry and wrinkle like..so I gave it a drink. I'm not going to repot it until spring season. But it's not a cute plant but I want to watch it grow and develop!! Isn't that weird??

Well done Ana 😎 I noticed a Parodia with buds on today 😲 Have a good Thanksgiving 😊😊🌵🌵😊😊
Thank you! You too!
Great video, Ana. It looks like like you have a good plan in place. I must say, it is nice not having to move everything twice a year!
Lucky you! But it’s ok, I like how my backyard transforms with the change of seasons. Hope your plants are all doing well, Bill. Stay warm! 😊

Beginner here 😊how many layers of frost cloth do you se when wrapping a cacti?
I only use one layer on mine. 🙂🌵
Now I have 18 different varieties of Cacti...🤔🤔 Wow!!!
That’s wonderful! Have fun watching them grow. I’m glad that you are enjoying the hobby. It’s a great stress-reliever. ☺️🌵
Hey Anna. Ok my mammalaria is blooming..in December. So can I still give it a little water?
Where can i buy a thephrocactus? They're rare in Michigan.. Can you give a recommendations of a good seller?
You can try Planet Desert, Succulents Box or The Next Gardener. They all have websites. ☺️ Hope you find it.
