Welcome to the neighborhood! We've been admiring this little cottage on our daily dog walks since we moved here last year and I can't wait to see what beautiful plans you have for it.
When you were talking about wanting geraniums, it finally hit me - you remind me of my precious mother-in-law when she was younger. We lost her last March and I miss her so very much. She loved geraniums, she always dressed so cute, jewelry, and even your hair cut. She was tiny with a similar personality. She got Alzheimer’s in 2008. When she had to go to a care facility, I knew she would HATE how they dressed her and how her hair was not colored and kept in a nice short cut. We got her as sassy and cute as we could with her favorite turquoise jewelry for the funeral. Thank you for warming my heart with some sweet memories today!!
💯 make the backyard enter/exit more accessible because that will 💯 make the backyard more inviting and less stressful when going out to the outdoor room. The planting can wait until after that.
You are wise and blessed that you were able to schlep all those wonderful pots with great patina to your new/old home. You can see where they can be tucked and repurposed as in aged or stained or whitewashed, etc. Shop your stash and then toss remains. So many folks would be thrilled to have your culls and the remainder can go to help a charity resale shop! Win! Win!
I’m so happy that the Wednesday walkabout is returning on a regular basis. I really enjoy walking the garden with you each week. It will be lovely to watch as it evolves week by week. Your idea to recreate your beautiful back stoop at the new cottage is making me smile. It will look lovely! I’m so glad you shared the design plan for the front yard….excited to see it come to life. 💚
Being excited is a wonderful thing and I hope you never stop. Last year we planted some bulbs in the woodsy area we call the glen. I can hardly wait for them to break dormancy and join us for spring. Oh, and did I mention that I will be 81 this year? See, joy and anticipation knows no age limits.
I love the statement “it’s nice to feel young and inspired” this was really wonderful to hear today! I am opening a new gallery and cafe with my kids and sometimes am overwhelmed! But I am 57 and have so much to do yet so it IS fun to feel young and inspired! Thanks for putting words to it!
Linda, what I love about your videos is the calming way you communicate, you are so easy to listen to. It's such a joy to watch your excitement over your new home. I learn so much about not only gardening, but life from you. I can't wait to see how your yard evolves!! Thank you for all you do. P.S. Love the outfit and your hair looks fab!
Linda, you look lovely today! Love your hair and outfit. Great plans and exciting times ahead. Your love for gardening is a delight to watch. You look happy and thrilled to have a new project. Thank you for bringing us along.❤❤
Loved today's walkabout. I bet you don't miss the squirrels . I think they moved here. Haven't had them but I'm thinking since our cat is gone they have eaten most of my tulips in pots! I'll have to get some chicken wire! I think the front garden, going by the drawings, is going to be fabulous! Can't wait for next Wednesday, Linda. 👍🏻
Linda. I love your videos. We are in process of downsizing too. You have found a perfect sized home for an empty nest couple. We are currently in a huge arts and craft house with lots of years of marital possessions. Man figuring out how to get rid of stuff is a challenge. I am In our second home in South Carolina and decluttering and readying it for sale. I needed to hear you say you are only keeping 2o% of your yard treasures. I need to get on my big girl pants and let go of more….the truth is, where can I put the stuff I chose to take back to our house in Illinois. You are a delight. I am so enjoying your process. I think taking your time is wise. You need to settle in and do the things you know for sure…..the other tentative plans need to wait. The house will speak to you as you move through the seasons this year. Just like a garden, it will reveal its beauty to you. Hugs from another transitioning home owner. Judy
Others may have already wrote a similar comment, nonetheless I would love to see your back gate mimic your front door (i.e., rounded top with a circle cut-out).
I am 62 and have recently moved from a high maintenance yard and garden to a “blank slate” yard situation. We have about 1/2 an acre in a corner lot to design. I am really interested in your plans to create a beautiful lawn and classic gardens with consideration for lower maintenance in our 60’s, 70’s and beyond. Love, love, love your videos and welcome the sunshine you bring to our days! 👒☀️🌿🌳🪴
Thank you for taking us on this journey with you ! I cannot wait for each new video. And I'm going to add that I have watched several of the older videos and I ordered the " house dress " online that you were wearing in the " Intuition" video, and love this house/garden/napping/healing from surgery/soft and sweet free-flowing with pockets dream boat dress !! you've never steared us wrong ! Much love to you, and to Stewart, hubs, and all the crew that helps you bring us into your life !
I am so glad you added the lattice to the fence in order to have more privacy on your corner. We are on a corner too and at times you feel like you are in a fishbowl! The plans look just wonderful. Looking forward to seeing it all come to fruition. Best wishes.
Lovely ideas, especially the romantic lighting & candles ideas. I do hope you keep the precious trees in the backyard; they hold the past & secrets of the present & future. Guardians of your space!🌲🌺🌸🌷🏵
I get so much inspiration from this lady. Everything she does with her gardening and lay out is right up my alley Flagstone, terra cotta pots, pebbles, and brick.....oh, yes !! Forget about matching your style of home to the type of garden. I live in a ranch home. Who cares ! I absolutely love an English garden, however, I am in zone 9, so most of my plants have to be drought/heat tolerant. I use a lot of succulents and have rosemary as my main herb. And there are just certain plants I will just kill....believe it or not, I killed a hellebore !! Yeah, that was expensive, not doing that again. However, my Plumeria is thriving.
I love your enthusiasm & the rejuvenation of new beginnings. I started a new home/garden at 60 now 69. I always think of Thomas Jefferson who stated ‘ though I am on old man, I am but a young gardener’. It keeps us young & longing ever for the next spring….
I am a person who likes to look forward not into the past. I am so excited to watch you and Stewart in the coming months readjusting to the new in so many ways. Thank you for bringing us along.
im like you creating my front and back garden... as im only here a year and was testing light .. soil weather... so happy to see how you do your garden for inspiration x
Hello Linda! I agree on the new back step idea and of course the higher fence for privacy. You look so young and vibrant today maybe it's the hint of Spring! Love your new ideas for things to come.
I love the lattice that you added to your fence it looks beautiful 🌳 and your hair today looks gorgeous the right length and your bangs are banging 😂 you look 👀 very classic but you always do ❤
OK!!!! Now I can rela, knowing the back stoop will resemble in look and feel your old back stoop,. To me that was a charm I just can't imagine having to leave behind! But with the back stoop and the lattace top fencing... everything else will fall into place in this new space , and will have your feel.
I know you have the ability to make your dreams come true. String lighting your entire back yard. I can see it now. I would like to see Stewart film a little bit from the sidewalk up towards the side of your house at the faux door area. I cannot get a feel for the area depth. Thanks Linda. Love your outfit.
I think it would be really pretty to find some climbers of some kind with pretty flowers and scents to plant along your fence. Having your backyard enclosed with the climbers would give it a secret garden effect. And then with a new garden gate, maybe with a circular cutout at the top, would make it as if you were sneaking a peak into somewhere special. It would be lovely!🌹🤗 Can't wait to see how it develops!
Love that you are reinventing your garden. I loved your other garden and felt very sad that it was ripped out so quickly. I have always settled into a garden, kept what I liked and slowly changed my ideas into a more personal garden throughout the years. There is nothing more boring than a garden that looks the same throughout the year! I wrote a blog for several years "Gatsbys Gardens" and always highlighted the beauty of the seasons. You may have actually given me an incentive to begin a youtube for more traditional gardens that have a four season garden.
I love how you flexed to buy the English cottage even though you hoped for a Mediterranean. You made the right call to buy the best house with deep character that was available in the desired neighborhood. It will perfectly match your garden style! And I would say not much of a compromise overall! ❤
Linda I want you to know that you have inspired me to convert my small backyard into gravel & pots of plants since my knees don’t allow me to work on them anymore. I’m reworking it this spring. Thank you & so excited to see how this new chapter grows from your vision.
Your last garden was perfection, so of course you should incorporate your signature touches in your new garden. Whatever you do it will be perfection 2.0 . I'm really looking forward to seeing it come to fruition . Hi to Stuart and hubs !
Wow, I absolutely love the lattice work extender! What a beautiful way to add texture and interest. You took a generic fence and made it fabulous. Being situated on a corner privacy is important. This idea is genius!
I love the lattice extension on the fence. It adds privacy but allows air flow. I downsized my garden when we moved several years ago and I moved all my garden stuff. Was able to take my time and go through to see what I wanted to keep and use and what to discard. Looking forward to seeing your garden evolve.
We lived in a home where the AC unit was by the back door too. We hired an AC plumber who moved our unit right around the corner to the side yard so it wasn't visible. Yours wouldn't have to be moved very far around the corner of your home. I am loving your design.
My ac unit is by my back door and practically on top of my outdoor dining area. I so wish it was in a different location. It is 20 years old this year so replacement. Will be soon. I will ask for two quotes…..1. Replacement cost in current location 2. Replacement cost in a different place.
The AC unit needs to be at least 3 feet away from the property line. A good neighbor is better than an out of sight AC unit. Once you start doing those things to your neighbors, they will tolerate less and less from you. Even when they are about to move, the new owners will notice those things too and they will be annoyed. A neighbor who cares checks on you and your property, they help you shovel the snow, they'll pick up packages or a garbage container when it falls due to high winds. Annoying a neighbor is not worth it.
Exciting times for you! Interesting to catch glimpses of the surrounding neighborhood which looks charming. Give yourself some grace as moving is tiring physically and emotionally.
It IS exciting. Love it all. You have the vision and yes, you are wise enough to want to see things unfold. Looking forward to the walking tours of your new 'hood!
Its nice to feel young and enthusiastic ... and have the money to implement your vision, I am 72... feel young and enthusiastic.... but my senior citizen budget has sure impacted my vision... haha Plus Southern living doesn't send me plants... bummer!
When I sit down in the evening I’m always hopeful of a new video of yours to watch. Sometimes I watch them a few times to be sure I didn’t miss anything. I’m so enjoying your settling in process. I can imagine how very busy you are these days but I do love being in on the nitty gritty details and the thought process you’re going through. Bravo you, Linda!
I don't know how you sleep at night with all of the plans that you have. I like instant gratification, so am anxious to see what you do with your new yard/yards. I know they will be beautiful !
You might leave the backyard trees till last or so because you will want to take note where your shad ends up being on your yard and where the sun hits as well.! So exciting!
Beginner’s Mind is a beautiful thing - and available to anyone, no matter their age. It’s more about a disposition that looks toward change and adventure with a positive attitude- always looking for whatever good there is to be in learning, and living a present and engaged life ✨. Good on you Linda!!!!
You are so fortunate to have stuart and other workers to do the labor Most of us don't and we have to diy So ...not so easy for those of us that admire your garden but we have hope 😊
Linda you are a treasure ❤, I love watching your channel. I am a new subscriber, my daughter found you first and we both just absolutely love you. And Stuart is a trooper! Thank you for sharing your home and all your wonderful ideas! I can’t get enough.
I love that you're bringing some elements of your old house. I love it so much!! I was hoping to see new steps, flagstone, etc. I'm excited to watch the transformation! You also look beautiful today!!!
So glad you started up your Wednesday walk abouts again! Love your ideas for the back yard! How is a car parked in that garage in the back? Will you be using as a garage or shed?
Between decorating the interior & planning & planting the gardens, I don’t know how you can sleep at night! The wheels must be constantly spinning! Such an exciting time for you 😊🌷🌸
Hi Linda, I like watching your channel, so inspirational. I think you did well when you moved to this adorable house... more manageable, my opinion. My favorite is the kitchen and the sexy bathroom. I'm looking forward to seeing how the backyard turns out, which I know will be awesome!!! Gotta say hi to Stuart he does a great job as your cameraman ...will be watching!!! singing "keep that camera rolling" 😆
I love watching the process from the beginning, and I really appreciate how you are sharing your thoughts and plans with us. I think it's very interesting! I'm waiting to see if you incorporate your signature bricks and gravel into your garden!
Love the Cottage! I can't wait to see what you do to your front yard and back yard space! I love all of your garden ideas. Once you get started, you will be surprised just how many of your garden items you brought with you will also work in your new space. Thanks for bringing us along on your new journey!
So glad you are excited about your new home and all it has to offer. You haven’t spoken about how Hubs is adapting. Is he “loving it” as much as you are? Or is he just along for the ride?😆
Linda, I can totally relate to your not so obnoxious kid like enthusiasm!! I think it's great, partly because I am feeling that way too. I had a broken water main in my front yard that had to be re-routed so there would be less impact on the landscape. There is still a fairly large area that needs replanting, and I'm SO excited about the prospects of all that. In addition, I have planted a ton of various bulbs and started seeds for the first time in decades. I haven't felt this excited and/or enthusiastic about my garden in a long time and I absolutely love the way I feel. Enjoy the entire process of your new home inside and out. Gardening and decorating are part of what makes you - you, and you do it well so be EXCITED like a kid!!
Maybe keep the tree's, I would love to see what innovative (in vater tive ) You would come up with. Delightful to follow along. The neighborhood looks so alive w/ comings & goings.
Anyone of your creative ideas will flourish with your knowing and inspirational touch and prove your selections welcoming and timely for their new home under your care.
You do you! We’re along for the ride. Nice to see you enthused!
Nothing like a blank slate to bring out your creativity.
Welcome to the neighborhood! We've been admiring this little cottage on our daily dog walks since we moved here last year and I can't wait to see what beautiful plans you have for it.

Linda, do not apologize for your excitement regarding your new home. It is inspiring.

I hope you keep the mature trees. They are so precious. Love hearing your new garden plans.
Your hair always looks so cute. Your hairdresser rocks.

There's nothing like sipping tea 🍵 and watching Linda do her gardening thang!! 🏡 These plans are eye candy! Love it 🌿
my thoughts exactly!
I agree 100%
Literally sipping tea and watching. It's the best🙂
Others may have already wrote a similar comment, nonetheless I would love to see your back gate mimic your front door (i.e., rounded top with a circle cut-out).
A fruit tree espalier on the garage would be gorgeous

Love it! I think you should create a Belgian espalier on that brick wall in the back yard!
I think you need backyard water feature.😄
Is wonderful to see you filling the empty courtyard!!!
May all your plans come true! Blessings to you💐😘🌻💛💙
Linda, I think you’re just lovely and a great communicator. I’m excited to watch you bloom along with your new gardens. How fun! 🪴
I think the same!
That was genius what you added to the fence! Made such a difference!
Thank you for taking us on this journey with you ! I cannot wait for each new video. Your new back garden has so much potential. It does have the feel of an outdoor living room. The fence with lattice work is brilliant.
Thanks Susan!
Thank you!
Lovely ideas, especially the romantic lighting & candles ideas. I do hope you keep the precious trees in the backyard; they hold the past & secrets of the present & future. Guardians of your space!🌲🌺🌸🌷🏵
Hi Linda, love what you did to you fence. What a brilliant idea.
You could never be obnoxious Linda! Dotage!!! Never!!!!!! Perennial and classic and quintessentially you! Love everything about you!
I love your enthusiasm & the rejuvenation of new beginnings. I started a new home/garden at 60 now 69. I always think of Thomas Jefferson who stated ‘ though I am on old man, I am but a young gardener’. It keeps us young & longing ever for the next spring….
Love this quote!
Gardening helps me not be lazy. Thank you for always inspiring us Linda.
Charleston courtyard? That makes me think you will really need a fountain somewhere free standing or one against on of the walls of the garage. 🥰
I love the idea of recreating your former back porch steps.
Hello Linda! I agree on the new back step idea and of course the higher fence for privacy. You look so young and vibrant today maybe it's the hint of Spring! Love your new ideas for things to come.
Love the Charleston garden idea and your courtyard must have a fountain!
I love Linda's new cottage!
Your enthusiasm is contagious! I’m so excited to follow along as your transform your cottage outdoor space. ❤️
My favorite. The back stoop with layers of topiary.
English cottage - yes!
I'm enjoying these videos so much. Your lattice work is so beautiful. You do look great today, Linda.
I know you have the ability to make your dreams come true. String lighting your entire back yard. I can see it now. I would like to see Stewart film a little bit from the sidewalk up towards the side of your house at the faux door area. I cannot get a feel for the area depth.
Thanks Linda. Love your outfit.
I love the minimization of grass for the front yard! And how exciting to make all of it your own!
I just adore the backyard... It's just enough...❤❤❤
Oh Linda this is going to be GORGEOUS!!!
You are so excited! It’s contagious, I feel it too. This is going to be so much fun this spring!
Oh Linda that sketch of your front yard plans is soo cool! Thats gonna be amazing! i cant wait to see it!
I think it would be really pretty to find some climbers of some kind with pretty flowers and scents to plant along your fence. Wow, I absolutely love the lattice work extender! What a beautiful way to add texture and interest. You took a generic fence and made it fabulous. Being situated on a corner privacy is important. This idea is genius!
I cast a vote to keep all or most of the trees-such character. Maybe use some understory trees, such as redbud, to fill in under and succeed them.
I love the lattice extension on the fence. It adds privacy but allows air flow. I downsized my garden when we moved several years ago and I moved all my garden stuff. My ac unit is in the back. When I replaced it, I had a very quiet unit put in and you can barely hear it now.
I have one of those neighbors that did that to me 😂… moved their unit to outside my bedroom and family room from their backyard 🤦♀️.

I really like the digital plans for the front of the house! It will be so much fun to watch the changes to the front and back.
Really like what you're doing with the Storybook Cottage, both inside and out. The plan for the front yard looks absolutely marvelous!
Thanks dear!
I enjoyed seeing the backyard.
I don't know how you sleep at night with all of the plans that you have. I like instant gratification, so am anxious to see what you do with your new yard/yards. I know they will be beautiful !
Those trees in the backyard give off a French Riviera vibe!
You might leave the backyard trees till last or so because you will want to take note where your shad ends up being on your yard and where the sun hits as well.! So exciting!
I hope you will have an area like you had in the old garden where birds flew in and out of the nandinas.

Like a kid in a candy store....that's you in your garden! I love the excitement & hope you exude!
Don’t let all the naysayers get you down. Love your new home.

Definitely a grand water feature somewhere! Again, congratulations to a bright, beautiful ,floralbunda future to you! Thanks for the ride along! 😊
It’s going to be so wonderful. What a great space and thank you for answering my questions about the back. Very fun watching the process.
So excited to see how your plans evolve and to follow the progress 😁
So glad you started up your Wednesday walk abouts again! Love your ideas for the back yard! How is a car parked in that garage in the back? Will you be using as a garage or shed?
A little greenhouse off the garage would be sweet and useful. Love the new house.
Between decorating the interior & planning & planting the gardens, I don’t know how you can sleep at night! The wheels must be constantly spinning!
Such an exciting time for you 😊🌷🌸
Gazebo for outdoor dining, trellises for climbing and to act as vertical screening in the back. Arch over gate to backyard.
Thank you Linda and Stuart! I enjoy your videos so much.
Ok I was waiting to hear about the outfit of the day. Love those pants! Also your excitement is contagious! ❤
I’m so excited for you ! I’m sure you will weave your magic . The update to the fence alone creates a warmer space .
Linda, please be sure to include railings on any outside stairs. They become very important as we age.
