There are only a few songs in the worlds that carry the profoundness in the melody and lyrics that Melodies of Life does. I feel humbled and lucky to have experienced this as a kid when I played FF9 and was swept away by Uematsu's genious mind and Shiratori's angelic voice.
Try not to cry, every time i hear this song i remember those people that once im with them, but now they are in the sky above watching me and guide me😔 Final fantasy 9 makes my childhood best
This is one of those songs that transport me back into the past everytime I hear it. I can see myself back in late 2001, crouching in front of the TV and playing FF9 for the first time. To be brought back through time into your childhood, it's one of the strongest feelings a song can incite in someone. Ma petite madeleine de Proust.
When she hit "that day will never return" me just cried. Sound like goodbye childhood song to me. I play this game 20 years ago when I am 10 yo, and right now I almost 30.
I just thought the same, just put it on casually, and said to my friend I cried as a kid when I heard the ending song. I'm 34 and crying like... like a 34 yo guy can. Damn. It purifies me every time.
I never know how it's gonna hit me. Sometimes it'll come on while I'm driving and I'll sing along just fine, others I will get half way through "we met, we laughed, we held on fast, and then we said goodbye" and I'll choke and tear up so bad it's embarrassing.
One of my favorite tracks from the Final Fantasy series. Emiko Shiratori has such a beautiful voice, and makes this sound like a lullaby. Thanks for posting this.
i play this game when i was 16 years old with my younger brother but he pass away few months ago. now i'm 40 and it breaks my heart to hear this song again. remind me of our memories together
That song reminds me of a love I lost, and it's lyrics have much to do with my feelings. Even today, when I miss him, I hear this music, so I can remember that life goes on even without him.
i've grown up. it's been ages. but this song.... man... i wanna criiiii. edit: (LYRICS) Ate mo naku samayotteita Tegakari mo naku sagashi tsuzuketa Anata ga kureta omoide wo Kokoro wo iyasu uta ni shite Yakusoku mo suru koto mo naku Kawasu kotoba mo kimetari mo sezu Dakishime soshite tashikameta Hibi wa nido to kaeranu Kioku no naka no Te wo furu anata wa Watashi no na wo Yobu koto ga dekiru no Afureru sono namida wo Kagayaku yuuki ni kaete Inochi wa tsuzuku Yoru wo koe utagau koto no nai Ashita e to tsuzuku Tobu tori no mukou no sora e Ikutsu no kioku azuketa darou Hakanai kibou mo yume mo Todokanu basho ni wasurete Meguriau no wa Guuzen to Ieru no Wakareru toki ga Kanarazu kuru noni A voice from the past, joining yours and mine. How many years ago has it been? & THIS SONG is still a BOP! Sang this recently at my cousin's japanese themed wedding. Wished I got a full orchestra backing me up 🤣 but truly a wonderful song, even better performed live
For me, the most impressive and overlooked part was the way she pronounced the "L" sounds in the English versions. There is no "L" in the Japanese language (or just about every Asian language, for that matter), so to have her nail that with no discernible accent is remarkable.
Her English is definitely great for a Japanese person. Though I'm Asian and I'd think most Asian languages have the L sound (not the case with Japanese obviously), it's the R that many don't have. Not that I know many Asian languages, but that's just my impression...
@@theLabradorite Fair enough. Admittedly, I also don't know a whole lot about Asian languages (oops!), so I was wrong to generalize "just about every Asian language" with Japanese pronunciation; my bad. If you don't mind me asking, what part of Asia are you from?
@@LinkinVerbz44 not at all, I'm from Thailand. We have both L and R sounds. I didn't mean to contradict you though. As far as Asian languages go, I only know Thai and Japanese. So you could well be right
Koreans don't have the strong "r" sounds, they have a cross between L and R.. but imo it sounds closer to L's. Korean doesn't use the v, x or z sounds either

I finished this game for 10 times and my father was still alive that time. I lost him last November 2022.
I pray for your soul to rest in peace.

Still shocked that she sang both the KP and ENG versions. What talent from Shiratori-san.
i feel you. i was singing along, but then i got surprised when she did some of the english version part. just beautiful.
Didn't know this and how amazing she kept the very emotion that was delivered.
Amazing video . Amazing song.. amazing talent and amazing game. Thank you very much for posting. She sounds as great live as the studio version!
nah, the original Eng version is not by her, but by Faye Wong
@Michael-hk3gw you're thinking of eyes on me its by Faye Wong from FFVIII

De los mejores temas principales de los Final Fantasy compartiendo podio con el VIII y X.
This sure brings back memories. Life's good, enjoy yourselves everyone.
This is the song that inspired a love of RPGs for me as a child. FF9 forever!
I remember being 11 and hoping that I would someday meet someone who this song would remind me of.
The ambiance of the voice is splendor.

Just to be clear Japanese has something close to the L sound but it’s written as R in romaji. So they’ll pronounce road as load, and load as load lol.
This really great. Masterpiece
miss my childhood 😭😭
still my fav so far my love ff IX
I read somewhere that she was an English major in university. That's why her English pronunciation is so good.
She is indeed. She has an album full of English songs like Norwegian Wood and Scarborough Fair.
Esta debe ser una de las canciones mas hermosas jamas escritas
I just finish this game three time, and i search on youtube, oct 2022

I absolutely love this song, as much I like the english version because I can sing along to it lol I do prefer the original Japanese lyrics
Neeeeeeh. Hey guys...I feel like I wanna give you all a big hug 🥹🥲

Anyone would never guest that his masterpiece is purposely made for a game for child and teen at that time.
Where was this performed? Really hits my childhood memories...
Thisnis the first time I see how different the English lyrics is from the Japanese Lyrics in meaning
Someone cutting onions in here?
she sounds like my mom

When and where was this recorded? Does anyone know?
I think this is from Voices concert in 2006.

Eh, I think the English lyrics is also good.

Is this the only live performance of Melodies of Life sung by Emiko?
