You just described noodling around, the classic pitful for people who can play one or two songs and do nothing else in their guitar practice. Me included.
Watching this at 1.25x speed is the best thing I have ever seen at 1.25x speed, thanks for covering one of my favorite and one of the most underrated song in the series
ok excuse me for being so late but this is OUTRAGEOUS! my good sir all hats off to you, this is a blessing to my ears, the skill level is absolutely unrivaled and you do NOT have nearly enough hype! absolute GOD right here people, this is the one!
Absolutely disgustingly good. The tapping, playing, and technique was absolutely spot on, but when I saw that little flamenco-esque rasgueado I was just like “just freaking stop.” Impeccable work king. Much respect
What an incredible arrangement! I always have loved that particular track as well as Zorn and Thorn as characters (i.e. the "minor" villains who just steal the show whenever they're on screen). The percussive way you play this, and how rich your sound is makes for the best version ever made of this track, in my opinion. Just like the twins, you showed up and stole the show!
Thank you so much! Zorn and Thorn were definitely some of the most memorable villains in the game. I still remember how horrified I was when they merged and transformed into a hideous monster lol. I've been thinking about re-recording this cover, actually. The way I play the song hasn't changed much except for some small, subtle things. I mostly just want an updated version that will hopefully have better video and audio quality
@@AntonBetitahave you got a tab or sheet music for this arrangement? This is honestly the best performance of this piece I've ever seen and I'd like to learn how to play it.
This brought back so many memories and gave me chills... you've earned my sub. I've been subbing to people for many MANY years (since RUclips first came out), but have never subbed so quickly to someone like I had you. I only needed to watch 2 videos before I knew. Great work.
Holy crap. This is a huge inspiration right here. You made all six of those strings sing like I've never heard before. This is one of my favorite songs and you just put it even higher on my list with this!
@@AntonBetita That's awesome! I'm very much a beginner with music in general but nobuo uematsu is easily my biggest inspiration and this video just fills me with it. Good luck on the song you're learning!
Nobuo Uematsu is also my biggest inspiration for playing instrumental music. His work on the FF really opened up my ears for more than just mainstream music. He's a legend
@@AntonBetita definitely! I find a lot of inspiration as well from looking back on his older stuff (see hydlide and 3d world runner) and seeing how far he had come between those games and masterpieces like final fantasy ix. Btw, what's your favorite final fantasy? IX literally changed my life so for me its IX
Ah yes, black mage village. The thought has crossed my mind. But right now, I have a few other songs lined up that I want to upload (one of them is another FF9 song, but not black mage village). Maybe someday though i might get to learning black mage village :P
The title is more interesting in the original Japanese, as there is a double meaning thanks to homonyms. As written, it clearly means "Jesters of the Moonless Clear Sky". However, when spoken out [Tsuki-naki Misora no Doukeshi-tachi], one might hear it as "Jesters of Misfortune". The homonyms are "tsuki-naki" (moonless or luckless) and "misora" (clear sky or fortune). This may be a reference to a novel called 月なきみそらの天坊一座 (Tsuki-naki Misora no Tenbou Ichiza) about the life of a magician in post-war Japan. The title there may intentionally have the same double meaning. English version of this is called "Jesters of the Moon" even though the Japanese clearly shows 月なき meaning "moonless".
Wow, thank you for that info! I always thought there was something weird about the "moon" part of the title because I didn't remember Zorn and Thorn having any abilities that related to the moon or anything lol. That's the reason why, when I played this song in live gigs, I would introduce it as the alternate english title, "Court Jesters". Now with the info you gave me, I'm even less inclined to call it "Jesters of the Moon" haha
@@Maxim.Nazarenko Yeah, I just always thought "Court Jesters" was easier and less mysterious, because of the absence of the "moon" thing. I think it paints a clear enough picture of what the audience should expect the song to sound like. Another thing I like about "Court Jesters" is that it sounds like a totally normal song title that doesn't necessarily sound like a video game track. Sometimes, it's better when a live audience don't know that the piece I'm playing is from a video game, to avoid any stereotypical bias of what "video game music" sounds like. I can't tell you how many times I've played a really complex Final Fantasy song (usually Sleepless City Treno), then get shocked/surprised reactions when I reveal that it's actually from a video game AFTER I already played it.
@@AntonBetita Nobuo Uematsu is really good with this vibe/atmosphere thing - "Court Jesters" sound kinda clownish, joyful, just like it should sound, perfectly describing characters and situation. I think that stereotypical bias is in the past right now, because gaming industry has grown and people are more open now. But yes, I've also had similar situations, where people get confused that some tracks are from Final Fantasy, Xenogears, Chrono Trigger or other jRPG, because "video game OSTs cannot sound good". I completely understand you here.
Agreed, I love all of his work too, but FFIX is my favorite by far. Fun fact is that Nobuo said it himself in a interview that FFIX is his favorite work as well!!
Great cover! FFIX had a lot of great music, but Jesters of the Moon is that one song that I always think first. I like your little flamenco inspired twists, like how you've incorporated rasgueos and that arpeggiated E-chord in the middle. Great job!
Thank you! Nice catch with the rasgueos, I figured that's the closest thing I could do to imitate the kind of rapid fire sound that happens in that section of the original track. Also I can't take credit for the E chord, that's what the music sheet told me to do! Haha
