    Muy cierto, cuando el arte tiene un precio pasa a ser manufactura. El arte no debería cotizarse porque es una expresión del alma, lo demás es basura comercial. Robert I love it! ♥

    Love the respect that Simon Gallup has for Robert Smith, that is greatness, as I see Gallop is so good as well.

    I actually really agree with this...but we often sell ourselves short. I guess the problem is if you value your art higher than anyone is prepared to pay!

    Interesting take and I like to see Bob and Simon debating a bit. That said I would have to disagree with Robert and have found personally when I sell my music for "Pay what you think it's worth" I always end up making WAY more money. If someone only has a buck then I would rather have them enjoy my valued art and hard work then not. Most people will pay the going rate for a CD and some have even payed $100 for 10 song CD. This has been my experience and I think Roberts old fashioned ways are showing through here. Maybe he has evolved since this interview.

    Robert tiene razón, pero al mismo tiempo Radiohead puede hacer lo que se le antoje... de todos modos lo importante es entender el punto de vista de cada uno, y lo de Radiohead fue solo un ejemplo, nada más.

    I am writing this in the year 2018 and it has been since 2008 since heir last album, which I think is brilliant. I think a reason the new album as not been released is because , like a hero of mine Gene Simmons, he wants to and should be paid for his craft. Too much downloading has robbed great musicians and who is someone to say, "you've made enough money?" That is bullshit. I collect bootlegs for sure but of live concerts and stuff not released to the public. I ALWAYS buy the new album of the band I love, they deserve to make money for their craft and I am happy to pay the for it. I just wish there were more people like me.

    • @duffbaker9554
      @duffbaker9554 6 лет назад

      So true, so true- I have always proudly paid for music and always will. If you pay for something, such as music, it has value. if you don't, there is no value. It seems the majority of people have so little value of things today.

    creo y discrepo con esa idea de regalar la musica, que pasa con esa situación? Prince lo hiso y el resultado fue que pues al fin de cuentas la gente como es regalado o barato, no lo aprecia ni lo apreciaria porque lo primero que se te viene a la mente cduando te dicen, es gratis o esta barato, tu piensas, es de mala calidad, o simplemente no lo valoras porque no te costo mucho o no te costo nada, y lo desechas rapidamente. Tienes toda la razón Robert.

    Creo que la manera de pensar de Robert y de muchos otros ya esta cambiando, ellos son parte de la industria musical de hace 30 anios, las cosas no siguen igual, por obvias razones, el internet, creo que el artista ha llegado a un punto en donde solamente disfruta lo que hace y el dinero que pueda hacer pasa a segundo plano. Creo que es la manera correcta de proceder cuando eres artista. Claro que radiohead puede hacer lo que hace porque ellos son radiohead y ya no tienen un contrato con disquera

    I am late to the Cure game but I detect a note of ego here in Robert Smith. He reveals several instances of this when he thinks his band should be bigger and thus more successful and when he prefers longevity or in other words being remembered, to being an instant success. So, despite his anti-popular, indie position, this interview proves that it is difficult as a celebrity not to crave more as you receive more, attention. Like it or not, he is part of this celebrity culture. While some singers may wear revealing clothing or sing controversial songs, his appearance is no different in that he has created a brand, which in this case, is his stance of being the outsider. (thank you Kafka) Celebrity competition is another, hard to ignore, aspect of celebrity which he touches upon during the interview. This interview is 15 years old. Would being in his 60's now have deepened the views he expresses here or made him realize that it all ends the same way, popular, successful or not. Regardless, this interview gives us a deeper understanding of different worlds celebrities straddle.

    I am a life long KISS Army member, life long metal head and I think the Cure are BRILLIANT, everything about them and always supported them. As for Radiohead? They are to me just a bunch of pretentious bullshit.

    Radiohead made more money from doing the “give away for free” thing for In Rainbows than ones before because no record company to pay.
