There are two sides to King Dedede. There is his comedic side, which we see the most often. This is without a doubt his more famous side. There are so many memes and jokes surrounding Dedede that it's almost as if the character himself is just a joke and nothing else. This isn't necessarily a bad thing though. These jokes are and will continue to be hilarious. But then there is his more serious, deep and surprisingly sad side, which a lot of people fail to see. Canonically, Kirby and King Dedede's rivalry spanned for only two games: Kirby's Dream Land and Revenge of the King. In the former, he steals all of the food in Dream Land. This could mean that he is unhappy with his life. His heart has a hole, and he can't think of anything to fill it. The only thing he can think of is food. In the end, his plan is foiled by Kirby. In the latter, King Dedede risks absolutely everything to defeat Kirby, and as a final attempt at defeating his rival, he becomes Masked Dedede. When he dons that mask, he is no longer the King we all know and love. He is serious. Immediately after ROTK, Dedede loses absolutely everything, and he decides that the best thing to do is to end his rivalry with Kirby (they only fight in Squeak Squad due to a misunderstanding). But their fighting will never end. Dedede has been possesed by other villains countless times, and has been forced to fight Kirby against his will each time. This song isn't just about how Dedede will never truly be happy with his life as King of Dream Land, but it's also about how he will never be able to form a true friendship with Kirby, as he will fight him time and time again, no matter how much he doesn't want to.

He learned his lesson on that almost 30 years ago in Kirby’s Dream Land. But that makes me wonder... Why, if after learning such a disappointing truth, does he remain King? We know that his sovereignty never really meant anything to the citizens of Dream Land, at least in the past. I believe it’s because he found something in his life and about being King that truly makes him happy. He learned, most likely by studying Kirby, that helping others is what makes him happy. What’s a King’s main job? To protect his people! After assisting Kirby time and time again (which literally started one game after Dream Land 1), Dedede realizes that helping other people instead of helping himself yields a valuable treasure that no money can buy: the affection of others! I mean, deep down, isn’t that all he ever wanted? And so, he remains King. To take charge and lead his people in the best way possible to ensure that they have bright futures. I love how the song describes how king dedede feels with his life. He tries to be good and be friends with kirby but he knows he cannot ever accomplish a true bond with kirby. Dedede has been possessed over and over again being forced to to fight kirby, because of this he is still attached to the role of an enemy to kirby. He wants to be friends with kirby but... I love how the song describes how king dedede feels with his life. He tries to be good and be friends with kirby but he knows he cannot ever accomplish a true bond with kirby. Dedede has been possessed over and over again being forced to to fight kirby, because of this he is still attached to the role of an enemy to kirby. He wants to be friends with kirby but... He just can't.
If he just dissapear and stop being a king , would it change?
