I’m with you, Matt. I can’t abide people who leave their cars like a skip. I have mechanical sympathy, so part of me feels sorry for the car being treated like it has.

Poor car lol 😂
I often wonder why can’t the owners of filthy cars smell that the interior stinks!? 🤷🏻♂️
As far as the tyres go, the date format is Week/Year so 07/22 means week 7 of 2022 not July 2022, meaning somewhere in February of 2022.
and the left side tyres were 18/21 (9:32 bottom of tyre)
I was also surprised to see such a fresh tyre in Europe from China
@@krivickas I have seen lots of these Aptany Harmonic tyres here in the UK lately. If we've been flooded with these post covid and post brexit, I'm assuming these really are the very worst China has to offer anyone😉
@@6ettinold A neighbour of mine has just bought a lovely used Black Sapphire (the colour's name, not those rumbly old nineties Fords😄) BMW ///M240i Shadow Edition. I just noticed and told him about the 'SprintGrip' tyres it's wearing (rapidly). Very rightly known as 'ditchfinder tyres' in the trade and many forums, I told him to drive it carefully and change them for better-established tyre brands the next spare time he has available.
Sketchy tyre dealer would get rid of the original tyre manufactured date, I think the tyre at 8:57 is one of the example, as you can see there are no date marked in the pill shaped area which there is where the date should be at the bottom of the screen.
The DOT of the tires show the week (the first 2 digits) and the year (the last 2 digits). So if it's 1821, it's week 18 of year 21 :)
I was going to comment saying this!
Yeah I couldn’t get my head around it
@@SuperFIFTHGEAR what would you do if the tyre said 0125?
Love these cheap car episodes, I can totally relate to them 😅
I was a student on a shoe-string budget and picked up a cheap 1.5k E90 318i BMW (needed a larger car for part-time work), it was pretty solid apart from a hefty MOT on a pair of shockers! The body work wasn’t great and it needed minor brake work and a minor oil leak before it was written off by a drunk smashing into it parked… But I always always kept it clean inside and tried my best on the outside with my limited funds! I got compliments from mates about how well I kept it and with most of them being non-car people they thought I loads of cash with it being a clean BMW!! But anyways I cannot understand how people treat their cars like crack dens on wheels, even a *cheap* car is expensive, be proud of it and take care of it!

Nice!
Just a heads up Matt, when looking for the date stamp on the tires you’re looking for something called the DOT code which stands for (Department of Transport) which is a US standard regulation for tires to check the date. As an example you’ll see 0122 this doesn’t mean that it’s a Jan 2022 tire however. The first 2 digits actually stand for the week of the year it was manufactured so an 0122 tire would be the first week of 2022. Another example would be 2919 which would be the 29th week of 2019. The NSF tire you checked and was unsure of being 1821 was correct, it was manufactured on the 18th week of 2021. Just thought this might help.
They most expensive light to fix being the fuel light 😌
Matt, I always enjoy your reviews or whatever you post. I remember when I was dirt poor and bought my first car. I kept it very clean and all of my friends teased me for it. Today, I'm still the same way. I normally would shy away from multiple owners but this car, with only 2 owners, should be in better shape. We all know, never buy a previous rental b/c people abuse them.
P.S. I like Dad's wheels!
I always keep my cars clean too. I wouldn’t have it any other way
I sadly have three cars to keep clean, work car, our car and granddaughters car ( she has an 18 month toddler) wife smokes which means within a week car has loads of ash. The baby car has usual gunge last clean of that it took an hour to hoover!
I had a Toyota Aygo, kept it as clean as I could, sold it in better condition than I bought it

Its shocking that people treat their cars like this. My first car was a 5 year old golf mk5 and i kept it spotless and well maintained. People must have more money than sense to let a good car deteriorate like that.
It's a testament to VW engineering that after being totally neglected it still runs ok.Close 2nd to the A Class Matt.
Wouldn’t happen on a Japanese car.
Ran an 08 Rabbit with the 2,5l engine. Ran that thing with a shattered water pump for over a year and faulty oil cooler. Overheated it, ran it hard. Had low fluid levels. Just trying to blow it up so I could have a golf shell. Never did die. I cleaned the engine up and now it's at 200k miles. Runs like it's brand new still. VW definitely earned my customer loyalty with this car.
Pretty crap testament in my opinion. Plug my 15 year old 170k ford in and it won't be riddled with faults. Germans don't make cars like they used to.

I run a vehicle valeting business. Almost every golf/passat/polo from around 07-12 have all been skips. I cant understand why people drive around in buckets like that. Get the kids up early on a sunday, show them how to top up screenwash and vacuum out the carpets! It never has to be a professional, quality job but just do something instead of nothing. Alternatively, this would be great for me as I’m trying to start in the trade….only thing is I’m an hours drive PLUS a ferry away 😂
This is spot on too with the amount of owners thing. If this had had 4 owners say, that’s potentially 4 dealers it’ll have been through who will most likely have done a good valet, good service and potentially even a cambelt. Instead, it’s had 2 owners and one of them hasn’t bothered to look after it 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
My train of thought too
History is everything and it isn't too important how many owners it shares its history with. If it doesn't have full service history and the MOT history is full of fails and just heaps of advisories I walk away. I also see cars fail on basic stuff like tyres and lights and brakes etc which is just stupid, it means the person who owned the vehicle at that time never checked anything on their car.
It annoys me that cars tested here in Northern Ireland don’t have their mileage and mot history published. You can only check the status 🤦🏼♂️
This would make an ideal first car. I had a silver mk4 as my first car. It was covered in dings and a little grubby but it was mine and it was affordable. There’s a lack of cheap bangers in the UK these days. Some of the most fun Iv ever had was in my old banger.
Wild, my silver 1.8t 5 spd mk4 Jetta/Bora is in way too nice of a condition to be qualified a bucket or shitbox Maintenance history is truly the most important thing when it comes to vehicles.

Now im keeping an eye on the price falls. I may start buying in 2024.
What do we do in the meantime ? Invest in commodity service companys where you can see a shortage and potential big upside. Oil Gas Coal Uranium are giving decent 10% plus returns via divys each qtr and are set to go up while property market is in a slump. Investing inside an ISA is tax free. 20k per tax years mean 40k in 2022/23 tax years changing in April. 2 tax years. Not commodity producers because they are being hit with windfall taxes, either buy the commodity itself or a service company international outside of UK US EU not hit with windfall taxes. I have a 04 Mk5 Golf and it is keept squeaky clean inside and most of the time clean outside. It was a bit forgotten by the previous owner but for a 18 year old car it seems like it would only have around 8 years, no rust, parts from 2003 still in a good shape.
Did I add that its an 1.6 FSI? Timing chain change and its running 10 times better meanwhile the owner said "I read those engines are bad", yeah, if you don't care about them.
Bought new wheels, cosmetic stuff, got the steering done in leather and a new exhaust (plus plenty lil things for a fair price, no big investments)
Since then I get plenty of buying offers from people that just see it standing somewhere.
And something I didn't expect, I get praised by my m8s for keeping it in such a good shape. They say they wouldn't have the patience and will to do so to their cars.
But even this MK6 wasn't the worst that I have seen done to a fairly 'young' car.

I think I got a steal and I’ve even made it look nice and tidy now 👌 saved me loads of money this car has I’m sure il get to 200k with it
I bought one at auction the other week, just saw a 10 plate zafira, heard 200 quid, bid and bought it, when the invoice came it was a non runner 07 tdi golf, they'd paused the auction to sell the non runner, anyway towed it back, battery flat due to broken bonnet cable, got to the lock, sorted it, flipped it for 750,it was a shed, very scabby wings, but still a golf tdi.
Can't understand why people let things get into this condition - it's 20 mins to take it to a car wash, it's a few quid to get it hosed out inside, and kids in the back of all that?
I've a BMW116i that hasn't half the tech and features of that Golf, but it's mint condition, full dealership service history and multiple owners before I got it 6 years ago.

I felt like washing my hands half way through that but it did get better! Another great video thanks Matt 😊
I’ve had my 2010 mk 6 for 8 years. I treat it like the work horse that golfs are, but I religiously get it serviced and get any jobs that it needs done as soon as possible. We used to change our car every 3 years, but we can’t bear to part with it, 120,000 mile, never lets us down. And still drives like a new(ish) car, plus £30 a year road tax.
It’s the 1.6 tdi diesel with extras that you’d be lucky to get on a modern car, Parking sensors, sat nav, touch screen cd/dvd player, voice control radio, and control buttons on the steering wheel. The cruise control is still working properly and is about the best I’ve ever used. Oh, and also a refrigerated glove box. Mine still has the bottle opener😊if you can get a mk6 for anything under 4 grand, snatch their hand off.
As I was watching this you were saying pretty much word for word what I was thinking as you looked over all the filth and damage inside 😂
I'd definitely still have had it for £700 though.

But then, they help the car market because it isn't always hard turn these cars around and make them like new(ish) again.

The last owner probably brought this car when it was still quite new and very clean and shiny, but they have made absolutely no effort to keep it looking like that. Perhaps the low PX price they got for it might make them more careful in the future but I doubt it!! Probably best just to sort out the mechanical issues but not spend anything much on the bodywork - regard it as battle scars! I'd expect a Golf of this age to still have a few more years left in it.

I used to have a mk6 Golf, if the Air Con isn't working it is usually the splines connecting the compressor to the pulley that have perished, the compressor and the gas are usually fine, a local specialist bolted it together for me and it worked perfectly thereafter, a very cheap and quick fix compared to a new compressor!
Given the stress testing these cars go through to make sure wear and tear takes a little time with the missing components, I can only imagine this car took a complete shellacking on a daily basis. I'm amazed the thing wasn't traumatised!

@@helipeek2736 Clearly there was a small squad of them unleashed on this particular one :)
Just shows how good the golf 1.6 tdi engines are. It's been neglected and probably never been serviced still managed to do 166k miles and surviving.
They're really not.
Me and my partner owned a MK6 1.6TDI from three years old and 20,000 miles on the clock. It got everything it needed on time (serviced every time on the dot) and was well looked after mechanically.
In our ownership we had the dreaded EGR failure (£600+), wonky and rough idling after the Dieselgate emissions fix was carried out (which is known to accelerate injector failures), valve cover oil leak, the rear calipers seized forcing us to replace the rear discs, pads, and calipers, the drivers door started to rot on the seam, I could go on. It behaved like an absolute heap for a car that was impeccably well maintained so we ended up getting rid of it just after it ticked over 100,000 miles.
Go and lookup the issues associated with the 1.6 TDI CR and you'll be shocked.
They're well known for DPF issues, injector failures, Master and slave cylinder failures, cooling system and component problems, air conditioning compressors fail, as do the alternator belt tensioners.

I'm just amazed how cheap cars are in the UK compared to other countrys like Belgium or Germany.
When I heard Golf VI 1.6 TDI with that many miles I thought at least 1 broken fuel injector but no.. Instead everything else. Power windows are as weak in VWs as they're in old Renaults like the old Mégane if you ask me ^^ most 5-speed manual transmission problem were solved when the mk6 came out so that shouldn't be a problem and the last problem "it's not a true VW if there's no check engine light on".
If it no longer smells like spit milk and you get some of the cheap VW plastic parts that always break like the seat ajustment leather and the top of the gearknob and you refill the A/C if the compressor is not broken also a VW problem on that era, then this could be a decent knock-around car for someone.

I am getting so pissed when i see cars abused like that. It just can´t be so hard to take care of a thing that you use every day. The car was literally treated like a piece of garbage by the previous owner. I´ve been driving all sorts of VW´s since years for ~50.000km/year and never ever have i broken a gear knob or destroyed a sunshade like that. Also giving it a vacuum once a week can´t be so hard. Also looking at the paint of the car, the previous owner should´ve chosen to get a car with parking sensors. I really don´t want to know how their house looks.
It annoys me. It’s so wasteful
The bodywork and alloy damage whilst annoying isn't the end of the world but the fact the poor car clearly never had any work done on it or servicing and the interior just battered is vile.

If they'd taken time to look after their car it would have passed its MOT easier and not cost anywhere near as much time and money so ironically their laziness is costing them.
You're right. I agreed with another comment on this. Troubling the same door is suspect. I honestly think cars like this reflect on owners attitudes in general, though we can't know the real story on this one.
@@gravemind6536 Exactly. Neglect is one of the reasons a car fails prematurely.
Thinking about the stickers, this might be the reason for the loss of power to the rear door - may be someone was annoyed by a kid, constantly opening the window, and just cut the wires. Sounds logical for an owner of such a bog.

Every time I watch one of these I'm always tempted to just offer you £50 more than you paid so that you can get rid. I thought the same with the Megane too. If people just looked after their cars they'd last so much longer. If I had this I'd slowly repair all of the mechanical bits, clean it up and it'll probably last a few years. Not worth bothering with the bodywork, just drive it, bounce off things, allow others to open their doors onto it and not care at all. Great video once again 👍👍
Most people are shortsighted
This is an awesome car and would be a fun and easy restoration project for a beginner like me. Maybe even do a few minor upgrades
Matt it’s just another day in paradise! It’s an abused Golf that’s had no love over its life so hopefully new owner will treat it better.
Can we have a look under the car please 😆
Suspension and shock absorbers. Some oil leaks.💧 Rust ⚙️
But, i mean 7k,, that is dirt cheap. 💰
That would be advertised as immaculate if it was advertised in Birmingham!
😂
As a Mk6 owner msyself I have to say this is a steal. it has some mentionable extras: MFD+ which is important if you want to upgrade some other stuff, Comfortline seats which are probably the best seats in the whole MK6 and look cool as hell, Automatic Light, definitely not standard , a chromatic rear view mirror and I think an RCD 310 Radio, also not the worst one. Yeah, it might be very dirty, but this car is still among the safest cars in this class ever built. It has a freaking knee airbag ffs!!!! I love my 1.4 TSI DSG Comfortline at 150.000km. Wouldn't sell it for less then 6000€
I hoover my car every time i use it, that was horrible when you opened car door to all that mess . I always get complimented on how clean & shiny my car is 😊
Definitely a mothercar, no offense. When I met my my upcoming wife I was appalled of the state of her car. Explanation was that kids ruin it anyway, so they had a fit when I said no eating, kicking of any sort in my car 😄 also when I asked when did you change the cambelt or oil and the answer was I don’t know and what’s a cambelt 😅 so yeah, two owner car, brilliant!
I know what you mean but not all ladies are the same. For example I'm a mum with two young kids but my car is serviced and maintained perfectly, mostly by me. It's on 262,000 miles now and I'm proud of it! But my dad was a mechanic so that kind of explains my "mechanical sympathy" and knowing the basics of repairs and maintenance. I agree, most ladies have no interest in cars beyond their looks, but an interest is all you need to start learning, as I did.
Is it me or did your Dad’s Disco sound noisier than your usual Range Rover ( engine noisy I mean) Quite agree about filthy interior: how do they do that? Entertaining video as usual.
The disco is diesel. My Range Rover is petrol and nearly silent
Last time I saw that many lights flashing I was watching Saturday Night Fever.
