- Learn how to make traditional "Versunkener Apfelkuchen". It's a popular German apple cake that looks like the apples are sunken. It tastes even better than it looks. Serve it with a dollop of homemade whipped cream.
3-4 apples
1 lemon (zested)
1/2 cup (1 stick) (120g) butter
1/2 cup + 1 Tbsp sugar (120g) sugar
3 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla bean paste
1.5 cups (200g) all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp sea salt

It looks just like the cake my grandmother used to bake in the 1950s. Happy memories.
You're a Good Teacher.
Never knew the idea of creaming and room temperature ingredients.
Glad it was helpful! These steps are super important for a spongy and airy cake.
Hi!! I made your cake and it was awesome!!! My oven is one of those but I will figure it out. Thank you! Wonderful! I was saddened to throw the peel out so I boiled and reduced the peel with some sugar and lemon and within minutes I had a beautiful sauce to accompany it. Cheers.
That's a brilliant idea to use the peel for that :D
Thank you. Thought you might like that. cheers and again, it was awesome!!!@@Greenhealthycooking
My mom added sliced almonds on top of the apples before the raw sugar before baking. :-)
Great recipe, instructions and ingredients are perfect just as in the video, it works 100%, thank you for sharing. If you don't eat it the same day the next one is dense, so next time I used 3 eggs instead of 2 and replaced 50% of butter with oil, it was lighter.
Can’t wait to try this recipe!! Think I’ll add to my dessert menu for Thanksgiving in a couple of weeks! Thanks for sharing!😊
I managed to bake the cake today ! Thank you for your clear instructions and video presentation
Thank you :) If you liked the cake do you mind leaving a review on my blog post? It helps me out tremendously.
Wise words to not skip the coming to room temperature of ingredients! You can make this even healthier by replacing the sugar with monkfruit! :)
Monkfruit and butter won't cream because of the "gummy" consistency of monkfruit. I do not recommend changing anything in this recipe.
@@Greenhealthycooking I did not know that, TFS!
You should also add Streusel 😍 loved the recipe it’s always hard for me to make the base of the cake 🥰
Hello! I really love your upload! Thanks a lot for sharing this for us👍
Worked out great! I had to use a bit of almond flour; but it still was super.
Fantastic!
Making it today Lorena! 🤗
Dankeschön! Ich liebe deinen Apfelkuchen.
Juhuuu :D

The cake came out so fluffy
It's so incredible, it melts in the mouth :)
Am also a food content creator and I must say your recpies inspires me alot
Thanks!
thank you so so much for your generosity! This is my very fist donation 😃
Thank you so much! Sounds delicious! Definitely will do it for my family, but i have a questions... My family is really big and I will need to do more of that cake, should I just doubled the ingredients?..
I actually always double the ingredients and make two cakes because of the same reason. I do not recommend making one big thick one. Instead use two same-size pans. Midway during the baking time make sure to give the pans a turn so they bake evenly.
@@Greenhealthycooking Thank you!
What flour is it, self raising or plain flour.
Thank you
plain (all purpose) flour.
I can wait to try your recipe but I’m not quite sure how much flour you are using and how much baking powder can you please tell me and I will send you a picture I hope you can see this message today so you can answer me. Thank you so much.❤️

I'm German and live in Canada so it's all Celcius here, too. Hahaha. I post the F for my US readers and subscribers because they make up the bulk of my followers. :)
What can you use if you dont have a cake strip?
Just omit them. Your cake will still come out fine. A little dryer and darker on the edges and with a litte dome in the center but still well baked and delicious.
It's totally okay to indulge every now and again
Oops no pic..but its .my Apfel Cake
Hello! Is it possible to do a gluten free version? Help! Thanks.
I personally haven't tried but if I were to try I would use the Bob's Red Mill ready made gluten-free flour mix.
@@Greenhealthycooking Thank you! But it isn't available in countries outside the US, and I live in Colombia 🦋
@@laimaravillon895 maybe you can make your own? Look what I found online: glutenfreerecipebox.com/copycat-recipe-bobs-red-mill-gluten-free-1-to-1-baking-flour/

The lemon zest was funky made the cake taste bitter - mmh not a fan of the outcome
You probably zested the lemon too hard then. The bitter taste comes from the white skin under the yellow zest.
I will try again this weekend, just leave out the zest 😊 I am not a good zester, thank you!
Ok i broke every one of your rules...i am a guy. But heres a pic 7:26
It looks so delicious! Unfortunately, I don’t eat gluten!
I understand, you could always try make this with one of those pre-mixed gluten free flours. I hear Bob's Red Mill has a really good one.
@@Greenhealthycooking thanks I was thinking about it. I will try 🥰
Goto Utube Victoria's Kitchen, she has a all purpose nut flour blend, gluten-free, that can be substituted for wheat flour. Makes very good cookies and cakes.
