No, you don’t need self raising flour because the recipe uses baking powder. Check to make sure your baking powder is still active. Also make sure all the measurements are done right. This is a traditional recipe widely used for generations. Let me know if you have any questions.
It is very confusing in which you have to decide which cup should i take from my cupboard to make this or any cake for that matter. If the ingredients are measured in grams then its a better way to make it perfectly. Just thought i mention it.
