I have the bibury version and love it (also have the leatherman surge, but it sits in the desk drawer , can't afford to lose it)

Same reason I bought a bunch of these clones my Leatherman went missing, bought 4 they are all great not only do,I not care if they go missing there is always one handy I have one in both cars and both jackets I wear. They are getting used more because I always have one, saved a friends house being flooded just last week, used the saw and file on a burst copper pipe. I had no other tools and he didn’t have any.

I bought the Bibury for 40 bucks on Amazon same exact thing. I love it and use it actually use it daily without being gentle on it since it's a cheap replaceable multi tool.

Identical to the Daicamping DL30, so likely made in the same factory

Maybe it's the camera angle, but the rocktol pliers pivot looks wider than the leatherman surge.

I have carried a Surge on my belt for something like 20 years. It has been thru all kinds of nonsense and is worn out.... I was complaining about the cost of a replacement and then i find reviews on this, and on the Bilbury version. I ordered the Bilbury to try it out. I am looking forward to seeing how it holds up in daily life.

Leatherman has been getting rather expensive lately, but have you tried warranting the surge? They will replace it with a new one for the cost of shipping

@@TheOpinionarium Funny story... I have had my leatherman so long that it has been through 3 warranty services. Their last time they basically said no more.. that was a few years ago, so maybe i could try again. This Leatherman is at least 15 years old.

@@unsayablestormable the warranty is basically lifetime, I’ve never heard off them saying no unless it’s a modified tool. Give it a shot at least,

I have one sitting in front of me now. I have carried a leatherman Surge black ninja all day every day for around 8yrs and I would know if you put a surge in my hand if i was blindfolded. the moment i picked this up was like omg! its smooth and feels the same but they actually fixed a couple things imo. the driver holder is much improved by taking normal bits and the file/saw adapter is more sturdy than leatherman and it fits the Bosch blades better. the other thing that i noticed they changed is the wire stripper. i like the leatherman V shaped notch stripper. this one is U shaped. I havent tested it yet so it is still up for debate if that is an improvement or not. time is the really the only test left for me. if its lasts then i will collect them all! (i paid $36 cad for it where as my leatherman was $220)
edit: one more point that I forgot to mention, as a long-time surge wearer I can tell right away that the holster provided will not last more than a month or so before the loop pulls off. even the leatherman pure leather holsters have a hard time supporting the weight with the stock belt loop. I modified mine and made it last for years but its something to remember, to not judge it by this factor. any tool this substantial deserves and after-market holster.

I own a bibury "surge" too... its quite a powerhouse. I havent broken anything on it yet. The bit driver rounded out a rusted #2 screw... & the default wire cutter setup cuts old, thick, coat hangers with ease & no damage to the cutters.

Rocktol you bought is a better quality multitool than Leatherman. Try to break off a nail with leatherman's pliers. You will see that the cutting edge of the pliers is damaged. Also, when you try to cut a rope such as a parachute rope with leatherman's scissors, you will see that it cannot cut the rope. Leatherman produced in America is both more expensive and of lower quality than the Rocktol produced in China.
The multitool you purchased is also sold under Diacamping and Bibury brand names. I have seen Rocktol prove many times in dozens of test videos on RUclips that it is of better quality.

I can assure you, paying 150 bucks for a surge is still a hundred times more preferable to the rocktol.
The quality difference is night and day, Leatherman’s warranty is the stuff of legend, the materials, hardness of the steels and performance of each tool out class basically everything on the market, and you can get it for less than a Benchmade 940
Leatherman may have hiked their prices but if it doesn’t cost me as much as two dinners from Pizza Hut for the family delivered to my house, it’s not that bad

420hc is NOT a great steel. Never has been. It is equivalent to the SS from china, like the 7cr and 8cr steels.

    • @analogmatrix1442
      @analogmatrix1442 11 месяцев назад +2

I get what your point is but even my skeletool steel sucked. The tip broke while carving hardwood. So in my opinion the 420hc has some benefits where it won’t be as brittle. And even if it breaks most implements are replaceable across budget brands so you can buy a similar one when on sale and have replacement parts on hand for dirt cheap.
