Good video but you did "Hours Outside in the Snow" dirty. The voicemail at the end plays at the beginning of the video for their most iconic song: "Your Graduation".
Hours outside in the snow actually stood out the most to me out of all the songs on Sports. There was always such a unique atmosphere around it and the way he admits his life is half-hopeless, but he's not going to run from it - how the song is so sad but somehow still hopefull or at least a safe space. I remember being at the lowest point of my life, so far away from anything i used to be, freezing out in the cold and just listening to that song on repeat. It always gave me a sense of belonging and comfort, maybe even purpose. I admit that my life is hopeless but I'm not going to run from it, no matter what anyone else thinks. And I'm not saying it's solely because of the song, but that's when i finally decided to make a change in my life and get better. And I did.
"I spent all of Christmas eve fake angry at you" is the most angsty and relatable high school drama lyric on the album. One of my favorite verses for sure.
I caught this tour in Ithaca and was sorely disappointed by their lack of enthusiasm for it. You could tell they weren't feeling it anymore. It was wildly different than seeing them on the holy ghost tour not even a year prior
Mobo is so intrinsically tied to my college years, the last times I was happy, that they'll always be my favorite. An upperclassman I wanted to be, showed them to me on a random trip to the airport at 4am, we were practically strangers at the time but he wanted company for the ride, and i've been hooked since. I got all my friends into them and we would spend our best nights singing the songs at the top of our lungs and our worst nights crying with them in the background. Our friendships deteriorated as the years went on, feeling similar to how mobo's seemed to be fading as well. Sports came out my freshmen year, Holy Ghost came out my senior. Every step of the way was mobo, right up to graduation with "It's quite heartbreaking we won't speak like this again" written on my cap. I'll always miss them with a smile and a tear. thank you.
‘Hours Outside’ doesn’t have any memorable moments? I dunno dude, that outro is my favorite on the record. The layered vocals ending in the voicemail just hits really hard in my opinion. The idea of pouring out so much emotion and honesty only to be met with a voicemail is really poignant
This will probably sound ridiculous to some but i only discovered Modern Baseball during 2020 lockdown during the only week I’ve ever had tiktok and they changed my life! I was living alone for the first time and at times it was really difficult but they helped changed my life and how I viewed certain things. A big issue was I was 25 and still friends nearly exclusively with high school friends that I had nothing really in common with and only friends due to how long we had known each other. Listening to MB something clicked and I realised I would be happier without them and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. Sports came out when I was in my final year of high school and I only wish I could’ve heard it then to see how different I would’ve been as a person. It’s funny exactly how Nate described his teen self first hearing Tears Over Beers was me in my mid 20s but better late than never I found this album and band
How MoBo made their first album: 1. They wrote some songs 2. They recorded those songs 3. They released the album to the public. There. All summed up.😋😋😋😋
Not gonna lie, this is some seriously practical advice to anyone that wants to make music but is afraid to put it out. I know you meant it as a joke in a way, but really, that's all you have to do. I've been releasing some music, and I'm no good at it at all, but it puts some hair on your chest and puts into perspective how far you have to go to reach that dream, yet despite how far it is, that dream is simply waiting in the distance for you to come and get it.
@@skelly1004 yeah seriously this is kind of how i see it. i'm a musician myself but haven't put anything out yet because like i don't really know how to go about it?? i'm probably gonna end up trying it like against me! and just do some crappy acoustic recordings until i can actually like find people to start a band but like it's really nerve racking
lol i agree with the many other comments you did Hours Outside in the Snow so dirty that’s probably my favorite song on the album. also for anyone reading go see Jake as Slaughter Beach, Dog he’s absolutely incredible
I didn't know how much I needed this video... I grew up listening to this band and I miss them loads, it hit me hard last night thinking that I wont be able to see them perform again. Thank you for making this !
First off, I really want to let you know that I appreciate you for keeping the spirit of Modern Baseball alive. I remember I had gotten tickets to go see them for a second time in 2017 for my birthday. I was sick the day they announced they were canceling the tour and I was honestly devestated. But all in all man, I couldn't agree more with what you have to say. Sports got me through some really rough times and helped me figure out who I was. Can't wait to hear what you have to say about you're gonna miss it all. Good work mate
For some reason Hours Outside in the Snow stands out for me but I definitely can see why it wouldn’t stand out for others. I’m really glad you’re doing this series. Mobo has been a huge favorite of mine these past few years and although I jumped on the train right before it left the station, I’m grateful there’s still people talking about them. I hope everyone has a great week. Your videos never disappoint, so thanks Nate.
I graduated college in 2010 in Philly. In 2011 I moved into a house in west Philly with a couple of Drexel students. They had recently moved in, and it soon became a party house. All of the party houses were given nicknames back then- ours was The Cat House. I was the only one into emo. One of my roommates was studying music production at Drexel, and he told me about modern baseball since he knew I liked that kind of music. I found myself at some of their early basement shows in our neighborhood. I was a bit older than most of the kids (I was 23 when I graduated and 24 when I moved to west Philly) but I made some great friends and had some of the best nights of my life.
I remember Property of Zack, that dude definitely deserves more credit/recognition for the influence/relevance that his blog had on that era of music. Tbh 2009-2015 pop punk music has so damn many underrated greats.
Sports is by far my favourite album to exist. It feels SO personal. whenever im sad, happy, anxious, WHATEVER sports is my go to. Despite hearing it for the first time years and years ago I feel like every time I listen it feels as magical as the first time. Long live modern baseball man.
Re-done is my absolute favorite song. Just love how the drums get more involved over the song and then of course the lyrics are just wonderful and relatable
aw man, there will never be another band like modern baseball, so pure and true, and impossible not to fall in love with. keep the MoBo vids coming b, I couldn't be more happy to keep talking about the best band there ever was
Hours outside in the snow really sticks out for me and I'll tell you why: at the end there's both vocal parts sung at the same time. they're both catchy, honest and emotional and I find myself wanting to sing along to both parts at once. it also concludes with the voicemail greeting; perhaps this is a real greeting from one of the girls that brenden or jake has a crush on. I love this authenticity and can relate to this - calling people/a crush in my teenage years only to get a voicemail. But don't get me wrong, it doesn't have to stick out to you. you resonate with other tracks on the album and that's awesome too :)
Jerkules I agree thats its definitely better than previous. It’s actually listenable. Still doesn’t mean they haven’t gone off the deep end though relative to who they used to be.
i've been putting off watching this series because it's just too emotional going back and thinking about modern baseball, truly no band has changed my life to the extent that they have
Tbh, I really think hours outside in the snow is a fantastic song and it's one of my favorites, the voicemail at the end hits hard and is placed super well. And its adept with lyrical genius about how you try so hard to move on but it doesnt change a thing.
I just discovered modern baseball this year and they're great. I was pretty darn sad to see they weren't playing anymore, and as I learn more and more about them I wish I knew about Modern Baseball years ago.
Btw Adrianne Gold sings backup on play ball and I think you were in my profile picture once and was in lots of philly bands, the best one is called catnaps and they released an album called “why don’t you whisper” and it’s definitely my favorite album of all time
9:17 Even as a RUclipsr myself, it's weird seeing myself in videos sometimes, even if it's only partially. Right at the beginning of the cut, my ex girlfriend if three years and I are partially visible. We're easily visible in the full video. This was one of the few good memories I actually had with her. Our relationship started with Modern Baseball, and now listening to them helps me forget.
It’s great to hear you talk about the band in your teenage years and how they helped you. Cause when I found them I was in my mid 20’s and they had the exact same effect. That shows me how good the songs are. Modern Baseball is one of my favorite bands ever. Hopefully one day I’m an old man telling my grandkids to play these songs for me. Great video!
Hours outside in the snow is the song that got me into the album. It's still my favorite from Sports and probably my favorite song they have done. Surprised it didn't receive more praise from you
Watching your videos it’s like you were inside my brain when I discovered them and idk we have the same thoughts about all of it. Thanks for making these. I miss Modern Baseball so so much. I just saw Slaughter Beach, Dog last week and it was incredible but it definitely made me sad because Sean and Brendan weren’t there.
Saw these guys along side Brand New and The Front Bottoms on Brand New’s second to last tour. The whole show was great, I’m so glad I was able to catch them.
It’s funny because hours outside in the snow is the one of the most memorable and impactful songs for me, I have a lot of personal memories with it but it was the first song to stick out from this album to me. Something about the dial tone and wanting to say those things to the girl in the song and just hearing the answering machine at the end really hit you hard the more and more you think about the lyrics in the song.
If we're gonna be talking about music blogsss, please do something about stuff you will hate. That was some my favorite blog, and it had a HUGE impact on my music taste for years.
This captured so many ideas that I have on Modern Baseball! It’s crazy seeing someone point out ideas that I always thought! Ahhhhh this was an amazing video
Property of Zack was crazy. I remember a couple of years back when he announced the end of the blog/empire. Definitely a transitional moment for the scene. Great vid again, Nate.
hours outside in the snow is easily my favorite song ever made. what i think is iconic about it is the ending where both melodies play over each other (ypu might runnnn / toooo erinnnn) so beautiful man
Love Mordern Baseball. I would love to see something like this about Title Fight. I'm 23 and they're without a doubt my favorite band. I grew up about 30 minutes north from those guys. Great videos dude.
I absolutely love this video. Modern Baseball is one of my favourite bands and the gig I went to is one of my most cherished memories. Can’t wait for you to cover the rest.
IMO one of their greatest qualities was their honesty, be it in their lyrics, where Jake and Brendan would pour their hearts out, be it in themselves and their relationship, where it was blatantly obvious how thrilled they were to be doing what they were doing and to do it with whom they were doing it. Specially Ian, his expression, mannerisms, his excitement with everything. Every time I go back to MOBO, I get the same feeling that they seem like the kind of people that you can only feel lucky ti be friends with (specially Ian)
What?!? I loooooove hours outside in the snow . My favorite song to play on guitar on the album. I love the sung intro and guitar leading into the first verse . Dope video. I’m gonna enjoy this series . I loved this band. I’ve seen them live more than any other band . Traveled out of state up to 8 hours a few times to see them . We miss you mobo .
Dude I really enjoy your in-depth look at these albums that I have been in love with for years. I was watching on ps4 so I had to get out my phone to comment.
Make one more album please MOBO!!! A lot of Brenden's songs helped me get through some hard times. It's really cool watching this video, my friends and I would discuss their songs and what we thought they meant, so it's really cool hearing your thoughts and noticing the similarities! Good Stuff!!
I'm nearly 29 and you talking about music being your whole personality and being when you were younger hit hard with me. I remember having my MySpace music section decked out with metal bands cos I wanted everyone to know I was into that, it was a lifestyle hahaha. Big love for the video and bringing back cringey but good memories. Peace and love x
"You might run, but I wont hide". Shed an ounce of light, on my half hopeless life." Hours outside in the snow stood outside so much to me all because of that line
I first heard "Your Graduation" (which is a fucking awesome song) back in 2017, but I haven't really been able to get into Modern Baseball, save for a few songs. This video has helped me see the band in a new perspective, and hopefully, your future videos on the band help me even more. Thank you.
I saw Modern Baseball open for Bayside in 2013. Had never heard of them before, but the next day Sports became the only thing I look listened to for weeks.
for me hours outside in the snow is easily my favorite song and i can’t really put a finger on why. i never knew it wasn’t as popular as the others. on my first listen, i thought cooke would become my favorite song but on countless relistens, it became hours outside in the snow.
I missed out on my one opportunity to see these guys live! I was way late to the party. I was kinda into a few of their songs when You’re Gonna Miss it All came out. Didn’t really get on board with them fully til Holy Ghost came out. Sports however, is one of my favorite records of all time.
dude i sang tears over beers at “karaoke” over a youtube lyric video, everyone at the place wanted to know who made the song, was happy to introduce people to Modern Baseball
Dude I found these guys in highschool 4 + years ago and I hella want them to make new music. They were so dope, so relatable they helped me get thru some shit.
I just kind of stumbled upon this video but damn it made me nostalgic. I came across MoBo right around Sports as well, and because I figured they wouldn't be a band for too long I said fuck it and made a 4.5 hour drive to see them on their first tour out to the West Coast. My friends and I walked into an absolutely packed little warehouse space, and they seemed even more blown away by the crowd than we were by them. Chatted with them for a bit after that and they were hands down the nicest, most humble guys in a band that I've ever met. (And then of course they absolutely blew up the next year.) You're right, we did not deserve them, but man I'm glad they did what they did.
You did it. You crazy bastard you did it. How you staying on such a slick streak of sick vids bruh? Once again, well produced video that must have taken a good ammount of time and effort. Good stuff my guy.
Amazing video, can't wait for the next one in the trilogy 'cause it was the first I heard from them and it was love at first listen. I hope your videos bring MoBo new fans! Let's keep the flame lit.
I loved hours out side in the snow. The "TO ERIN: please read later. Cause I don't think I'd have the heart to let ya read this now." Is so creative never seen a song pull something cheeky like that before. Dunno what you were on about
hours in the snow hit me so hard when i was in high school mainly cause i lived in a small town in wisconsin with snow on the groung for like 8 months outta the year back then
I always really resonated with Hours Outside. Probably because I got dumped a week before Christmas one year. “I spent all of Christmas Eve fake angry at you” really hit different around that time because I was angry about being dumped but wasn’t angry at the same time because I totally understood.
I discovered MOBO when stalking my ex’s Instagram and she quoted the chorus from re-do. I got to see them in a tiny venue for the Holy Ghost Tour. Always loved how they didn’t have roadies come to set up their gear between support acts, they came out to do it themselves. Probably the most memorable concert I’ve been to.
i love how there’s the top part of the song that’s just the story line which always makes perfect sense, and then you go deeper and it’s all about mental health or the awkwardness of liking someone and teen adventures
I miss Modern Baseball.
me too :((
I miss modern baseball more than any other band honestly. they truly were perfect
Dont we all

Hours outside in the snow really sticks out for me and I'll tell you why:
at the end there's both vocal parts sung at the same time. they're both catchy, honest and emotional and I find myself wanting to sing along to both parts at once.
it also concludes with the voicemail greeting; perhaps this is a real greeting from one of the girls that brenden or jake has a crush on. I love this authenticity and can relate to this - calling people/a crush in my teenage years only to get a voicemail.

Love Mordern Baseball. I would love to see something like this about Title Fight. I'm 23 and they're without a doubt my favorite band. I grew up about 30 minutes north from those guys. Great videos dude.
damn this vid made me feel all kinds of things, gonna go listen to MoBo all day - can't wait for 2 & 3 of the series
Drove hours and hours to see their last show and it was the best 2 day road trip
Make one more album please MOBO!!! A lot of Brenden's songs helped me get through some hard times. It's really cool watching this video, my friends and I would discuss their songs and what we thought they meant, so it's really cool hearing your thoughts and noticing the similarities! Good Stuff!!
i fucking love modern baseball
Dude just found your channel and with 2 videos you’re easily one of my favorite RUclips channels 🎶🙏🏼🎶
Thank you.
The lyric at 6:09 is actually from ‘Phoenix’ by SBD, not ‘Pretty O.K.’
been listening to modern baseball for years now. i love these guys and will remember them for years to come. incredible emotion in all their work.
Play Ball! is crazy good. What a great band. Can’t wait for your video on Holy Ghost, that’s my favorite of theirs!
Cooke is my favorite song of all time, and of this album
You did it. You crazy bastard you did it. How you staying on such a slick streak of sick vids bruh? Once again, well produced video that must have taken a good ammount of time and effort. Good stuff my guy.
Your videos are all so well put together. I love this content, thank you for this.
Amazing video, can't wait for the next one in the trilogy 'cause it was the first I heard from them and it was love at first listen.
I hope your videos bring MoBo new fans! Let's keep the flame lit.
it's almost been eleven years this album still hits and i still don't know what to do without them
I absolutely love this video and also this series. Thank you so freaking much.
That said, Modern Baseball is a fucking gem.
Look Out has such a special place in my heart. Great video nate
Damn PoZ was my go to source for this flavor of music for a few years there
I loved hours out side in the snow. The "TO ERIN: please read later. Cause I don't think I'd have the heart to let ya read this now." Is so creative never seen a song pull something cheeky like that before. Dunno what you were on about
Amazing video. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on such a wonderful band.
hours in the snow hit me so hard when i was in high school mainly cause i lived in a small town in wisconsin with snow on the groung for like 8 months outta the year back then
I'm so glad I found you channel
