- I'd like to hear you guys' choices. Obviously, both weapons would get the job more than done! No one would want to be on the dangerous end of either of these weapons. 12 Gauge at self defense distances are beyond devestating. But, I willing to listen to other opinions.
great video
Thanks M!
Just subscribed..I like your style 😎
Much appreciated! Thanks!
My favorite home defense setup is a 12 guage loaded with hollow point slugs. It'll pack all the punch you need, with the hollow point eliminating the concern of over penetration.
I've never seen a hollow point slug. I'll look for some and see what they go through! Thanks for watching!
@@gvtrai58I recommend Winchester SuperX. They're pretty inexpensive and easy to find, but they perform amazingly.
You are responsible for every projectile flying down range. I saw a video where a guy said he disliked shotguns for self defense for that reason. I’ve also seen claims that shotguns over penetrate more than 5.56 to some degree but I’m still not entirely convinced based on the test videos I’ve seen that there is a significant enough difference.
I agree everything has something going for it and something going against it. But, a 5.56 is going through a lot of sheetrock. Unless they make a 5.56 projectile out of marshmellows it is going through a lot of rooms. And outside it could cause a problem a mile away. To me, my opinion only, I prefer the 12 Gauge in the nightmare scenario of a true home defense - pissing in your pants - type situation. Thanks for watching and your comment.
5.56 and 223 both overpenetrate more than 00 buckshot.
I like both. 12 gauge at in-room distances will definitely get the job done. I've run across self promoters that say shotguns suck for home defense but not anybody I would take seriously.
I agree with you about not taking someone seriously who thinks a 12 Gauge sucks for self defense. Nothing, legal for civilians is more devastating at self-defense distances. The damage one center mass hit from buckshot vs. one center mass hit from a .223 / 5.56 is vast. THanks for watching and commenting.
