Best tamiya 2wd. I’ve got an original, I was so impressed with its speed and handling when in originally bought and built it. I just blew the dust off mine and took it for a spin. Still impressive after all these years. So easy to control on dirt, better then my kyosho optima from same period. Love your videos. Good to see how much you appreciate these cars!
Totally agree the Stormy is the greatest 2wd tamiya ever. It's just expensive and a pain in the butt to keep running without destroying it. I love mine so much and I had mine since I was a kid. Took me years to get all the parts to get him running again. I will keep driving my Dyna storm as long as possible
Hey Glenn, thanks for the shout out to my channel. That was awesome. As always, great video and I’m looking forward to seeing this buggy hit the pavement to see how it handles. I actually found a Dyna Storm at a reasonable price in Japan, so it should be shipping out sometime soon to the States. Unfortunately its not box art and doesn’t have the pink Acto-Power motor. I’ll have to source out a motor and as a fellow Tamiya purist, I’m going to have to paint it up box art. I really have to stop buying RC’s as I have enough projects lined up to last me till next year but hey, I guess that happens when you’re addicted.
my fav thing about that buggy is the NAME, Tamiya had some catchy name for their stuff. BTW have you ever had a TLT-1 (that was the small version of the TXT-1). I used to have one, it was such a well made kit, drove poorly though. Ofocurse I also realized right after that I was not into crawling at all, and still currently am not. We would love to see you get one of those.
agree man!! I tried scale crawlers and the hobby grade non-scale types too. BORRING. I guess the fun is in the upgrades, pretty pointless to me. I like to run stuff stock mostly, other than motor systems and servos. Once you upgrade stuff you never get back what you spent, and it's only marginally better, if at all.
Read an article (it might have been RC Car Action) in the early nineties on Jamie Booth’s prototype Manta Ray which was obviously what turned into the production Top Force, that car was a thing of beauty! I read the pages off that article and still remember heading down the local hobby shop to purchase the Top Force as a kid, still remember how good it felt walking down there. The TRF especially of that era is a very interesting aspect to Tamiya that not many people know much about, I would love to hear from some of the car designers or drivers who worked at TRF and hear their stories about it. Obviously the TRF cars never quite achieved what Tamiya probably hoped for but then again they didn’t really commit to racing the same as Asscoiated, Losi or Yokomo did back in the day. Great job on the channel mate!
I have many Tamiya RC cars of the first 100. The Dyna Storm is my favourite 2wd off road racer because it just looks so agressive! It was a pleasure to build and It really looks amazing on the shelf. What an advanced buggy it was in it's time. Love it! As you said in the vid, the motor was an option. My kit is the original and It didn't come with the Pink motor. I have never ran my Dyna Storm but if they reissue it again I would buy one to run. The Dyna Storm looks great sitting next to the Top Force! Awesome review Glen I really enjoyed it.
Had one of those back in the 90’s. Wanted to get onto Got rid of it and bought a Associated RC10B2 and never looked back. The RC10 b2 was way better buggy than what the dynastorm ever was.
Very interesting. When I used to race, I would use a pink motor by Trinity for my Team Associated RC10 buggy and a green motor also by Trinity for my Team Associated RC10t truck. I wonder if maybe that is where the pink and green motor idea came from? I still have my RC10 buggy with a pink motor and my RC10t truck with a green motor. Both have the RPM conversion to reduce weight.
Excellent video! Very interesting👍 it's one buggy which I'm preying it will make another appearance🙏 I've not long took possession of an original unused boxed pink acto-power (wasn't cheap) but it's just waiting for a dyna storm to go into! About 10 years ago I was offered a dyna storm but had to pass on it because I was moving house and need every penny🤷♂️🤦♂️
I had one as a teenager and stupidly sold it for something like 90 quid. I'm pretty sure it was a re-re but the pink motor did have the acto power sticker on it. Mine also had pink star dish wheels which I have never seen on anything else so I suspect they were dyed. The one thing that annoyed me about it was that the screws which hold the gearbox onto the chassis would always work loose. Another model I always wanted was the Dyna Blaster but those are even rarer than the Storm and too expensive to run now really.
I have both Pink Motors, the one without the acto power label and the actual pink actopower. I've ran both and the performance is the same. They're both quite powerful. Not the pink one in the video, the other one without the label. That dynastorm will fly on the 2s with the original Pink with timing forward.

What a absolute stunner bud!! The holy grail of 2wd Tamiyas. Love it still hunting for one...
Looking forward to seeing it running. Nice video.
Tamiya is so great and fun. Its always a challenge to figure out which to build next...

Phil Moffett
It’s a amazing buggy Phil, developed from the TRF cars for the race track + it’s gorgeous to look at 🤩🤩🤩
I would love to get one of these, but due to cost and no word on a reissue, I will just go with a Super Astute and add a few hopups.
Great 👍 Looks like a great buggy my friend

I’ve got two of this in a box somewhere they were excellent to drive very fast but a bit too heavy compared to the competitors of the time
Neil Fastfreddie Anderson
Wow you have two of them 😳
Well if you want to send one to me, I’ll look after it for you 😉 it’s not a problem 😊👊🏻
TAMIYA Legends I was going to make my grand son up a runaround they are really tough and easy to drive
What is the difference between the Dana storm and the super astute?
😎👍 Looks like a great buggy.
What is the difference between the astute or super astute and the dayna storm

Great find 👍👍
Great video.
That body style is very similar to the Top Force... I would love to snag a DS - how much are they going for generally?
Jody monson
Hi buddy,
If you can find one you’re looking at around £250 or more 😬
@@TAMIYALegends eek!
how would this compare to the kyosho optima?
adrian harrison
Do you mean Ultima?
If so the Ultima is better on the track 👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends yep sorry ultima..
Tamiya was always lagging behind hey?
Nice Buggy! 👍👍👍👍👍I wonder if I can find one with the luck you give me in finding gems lol!
